Fernando Mendoza

This will be our portal QB. Mario put all his eggs in the Mateer basket and has egg on his face...he did the same thing last year and got really lucky when Ward changed his mind mid-Janaury. Very concerning that following a 10-2 season and Ward being a Heisman finalist Mario couldn't land a big-time QB. Why didn't he go for Mensah?
Mensah is a bum

He just threw for 3,000 yards with no weapons and the worst power 4 offensive line. He's getting recruited aggressively by a lot of great schools. Scouts view him as a pro player. Some of you need to turn on the film
like who?

I just watched the first half of Cal vs Syracuse game to try to sell myself on Mendoza. He’s trash. So far he’s thrown two terrible picks, zero td’s, and taken a couple bad sacks. He’s a statue back there plus he’s indecisive. But he did go to Columbus though so we’ll probably take him

Yes, this is what stands out to me.

Mendoza is being considered big time by everyone but Miami fans.

At worse case scenario you want to have a QB competition to push the starter to win the job. In addition, even though we had the best QB ever at our school we still only managed 10-2 with multiple near loses and dogfights. We need to be able to play complementary football. There’s not a Ward in the portal this year. We should have went after Arnold first. Mendoza is a cheaper option. We need to pull the trigger there and with the savings bring in some talent to help the defense.

Regardless, I’m not sure what the **** we’re doing as we seem to be moving at a turtle pace as Mario typically does. We were told we going to be aggressive in the portal to make up for our average recruiting class. So far that **** isn’t happening.
Mateer was a Ward type guy for us, but he didn't want to be here. Mendoza is probably the next best thing.

I realize the defense still needs work, but this is starting to look like a functional ACC offense.View attachment 314689
Imo Lofton is gunna beat out Riley Williams next year.
Idk why you have Martinez returning either, that would be extremely surprising.
Honestly I'm so out on Ray Ray I think Toney and maybe even Upshaw is immediately going to be over him. Fitzpatrick too if they start him out at WR at all...
Okunlola we'll just see what happens over spring practice. He's either starting at LT/RT or he is out in spring portal unless he's agreeing to a massive pay cut. Oline there are a lot of possibilities. Open competition except for Cooper at RG. Mauigoa is a locked in starter, most likely at RT, but I could see him moving positions if Okunlola stepped it up and Bell was as good as he's made out to be... Or maybe Bell moves in to guard...

Lofton to me seems to be the most ready to take over Arroyo. I wonder how they use Lofton in year 2. I'm surprised Pancake didn't hit this current portal. If he sticks around I think he takes over RT in 2026. Big if

What would this tell me? Don't go for any of the guys in the 3 Columns on the right - Ewers, Bailey, Drones.

Mendoza Is the least turnover prone. and is just overall solid/good. Has respectable grades passing and running by PFF (77.6 and 66.3 respectively). Was under a crap load of pressure due to a poor OL (32% of dropbacks). Doesn't make enough big plays/TDs however. And His P2S ratio is very bad. Hopefully that is mostly a symptom of having a bad OL, and that coming here would fix the issue. However sacks themselves are as much or more of a QB stats as they are an OLine stat. And Mendoza's 8.7% Sack% is Justin Fields level bad. Really imo the question is, will improving Mendozas weapons and protection significantly elevate his game? Given that he is clearly a smart guys and careful with the football, if he has that play making ability, but it just needs to be unlocked/let loose, then he'd be a great fit.

If not, just try to lure Robertson/Hoover into portal for a starter... or maybe Vasko/Veltcamp if you want someone to compete with Emory/Nickel. Veltcamp btw while he he has some red above in the INT mark and Fumble grade, he does actually have a good Turnover worthy play rate mark.... Vasko just has the highest big play rate among these guys and in the nation. Dudes Depth of target is the only one above 9, and he's not even holding the ball very long or turning the ball over at a very bad rate or anything. And it looks like he can run decently well, and avoids sacks with a low P2S rate... Very interesting to me.

When they played us, all they could do was use gimmicky plays to score. The moment they went into a pure dropback team, the talent level at receiver and O-Line was brutally exposed.

Pretty sure Mendoza with some support can do serious work.

Man I would be more than happy with adding Concepcion and Mendoza to the current offense and then seeing what's out there for the 2nd portal window. All things considered with Mateer off the board...this wouldn't be too bad. I think people on here are sleeping on Mendoza and what he could do with a real OL and weapons around him. He the best QB left in the portal and if a school like UGA wants him and Indiana coming off a CFP run then I don't see why Miami wouldn't be trying to get him here
