I think TRASH is harsh. Average is better. I do however agree the with the rest of your statement. He played well against us, a SOFLO guy, Columbus, his family and connection to Mario, created this mystical cacophony of favorable noise. That has people clamoring for this kid as our QB answer. IMO, it’s a myth, smoke and mirrors. Other than playing time, we have two of him in our QB room now. Yeah, it’s a melancholic story, I’ll pass.I just watched the first half of Cal vs Syracuse game to try to sell myself on Mendoza. He’s trash. So far he’s thrown two terrible picks, zero td’s, and taken a couple bad sacks. He’s a statue back there plus he’s indecisive. But he did go to Columbus though so we’ll probably take him
I watched Cam Ward 2nd quarter against VT. He threw a horrible pick, made some
Inaccurate throws. I expected better.
See how that works? Mendoza is a proven productive ACC QB that is on upward trajectory. Athletic 6'5 220 plus pound QB that ran for first down 20 times this season, while also throwing for over 3,000 yards in only 11 games.
Mendoza would be very meh here, but there really aren't a bunch of game makers at QB this year in the portal. Mateer was the stud and then everybody else. Cam was great because he could extend plays and finish with a dazzling play. Our OL kept him upright, but he also saved them with his ability to move in the pocket. Mendoza fits in the category of TVD as far as pocket mobility, I don't think he is much better than Emory and if he's our choice the QB competition should be wide open and let the best guy be our starter. Open competition for all, I really like Nickel but we would be in serious trouble if our starting QB is a true freshman. We're just not good enough and we're not going to outscore teams who hang 30 to 40 points on us every week and to this point we really haven't addressed the defensive issues with this team. Right now we are a seriously inferior team compared to this past season. Buckle up boys, next year is going to be a bumpy ride!
Might be the most rational post I’ve seen in a bit. Bring him in. Let Emory compete, lets roll.We walked by the solid 7 to check out the 9. It’s time to double back. Otherwise it’s drunken over the pants handjobs from the 3 at last call
They were FSU's sole ACC win because they couldn't find the end zone.I’m not trying to cherry pick, was that just an outlier bad game? I didn’t watch Cal last year except when we played them, but our defense was so bad any QB would look good. I looked on YouTube for full Cal games from 2024 and found five…..vs Stanford, vs us, vs FSU, and vs some G5, and vs Syracuse. I picked Syracuse because we just played them, they’re not trash like FSU, and figured it would be a good one to watch.
Not even Day Quil can stop a cold, you only treat its symptoms. A cold lasts seven days if you see a doctor or a week if you don't.I'm more open to Mendoza than I was before. Ultimately, next year's offense is going to be of a completely different character, and we're going to rely much more on our run game. For me - and looking at his stats, film, and background - Mendoza's a guy with a high football IQ, strong work ethic, good character, and decent arm talent. He's more than a game manager, and I think he's what we think Emory could be (he's already reached that point).
He did more with less on a Cal team that (outside Ott who was injured a lot of the time) had a terrible OL and little talent at WR. You pair a guy like him with our OL, Fletcher/Lyle, and WR's like Daniels and Concepcion (hopefully), + our other high upside WRs, and that could be a formula for success.
People are focussing on the wrong thing when it comes to next year's success. It's going to be all about whether our defense can take a step up. We had the #1 offense in the country this year, and it didn't matter because our defense couldn't stop a cold.
Honestly, I want this 11th game this year, and 22 over the next 2. Then we will see what we are, and what we could be. If Mendoza can deliver on that, then weve done what weve needed to. I know everyone wanted their Microwaved Natty run this year, but outside of Cam, we didn't have the talent for it.
I love Cam but he WAS the reason IMO. Defense sucked but only gave up 28 which is what GT avg all year. We scored 23 and we avg 43. Cam was so off that game despite his final statsCam was a big part of the GT loss also
I've watched them play a few times this year and I don't think this is the case at all. His OL is criminally bad. Surprising since Miami didn't seem to dominate (based off my memory). He’s a statue back there
American Ninja was the best!He has the name of a generic 80's Cartel Boss in an action movie starring Michael Dudikoff.
Therefore, Take.

the fumble was Mario's fault just like the personal foul by JG inside the one against cuse.I love Cam but he WAS the reason IMO. Defense sucked but only gave up 28 which is what GT avg all year. We scored 23 and we avg 43. Cam was so off that game despite his final stats
In case you were being sarcastic - the personal foul was Mario's fault. He put up with the kids behavior for years and never did squat to change it. Who was surprised he got one more pf to add to his collection?the fumble was Mario's fault just like the personal foul by JG inside the one against cuse.
Did you see the kid light them up in the first half? They did try and punish him at times. The personal foul was Mario's fault. He put up with the kids behavior for years and never did squat to change it. Who was surprised he got one more pf to add to his collection?
No, I rarely blame coaches for player mistakes. Just mental mistakes they make again, and again and again, and...Did you see the kid light them up in the first half? They did try and punish him at times.
How about the Horton drop? Mario's fault to or should he have broken the bank to keep him.
look I get what people say with JG but he also makes big plays. he was our 2nd best wr and is an NFL talent. he's just a little off mentally. No, I rarely blame coaches for player mistakes. Just mental mistakes they make again, and again and again, and...
Not Mendoza's fault, their FG kicker missed two easy ones that would've given them the W. He also threw for 300 (though he did have a pick). It was an issue, for him, of not having Ott, having a terrible OL, and his best weapon being a TE. All those things get miles better for him if he came here. They were FSU's sole ACC win because they couldn't find the end zone.
