Fernando Mendoza

If we use that huge gap of savings between Mendoza and Mateer on defensive players and one more receiver then I'm with it.

I just watched Cal vs FSU to give myself context for his worst game and we can only hope that Emory is that good. I don't know why there are assumptions that's automatic.

If our recruiting and development is as good as we think it's been then supplementing on the DL and DB with Mendoza is a good bridge to Nickel.

We've got more than enough impact guys the last 2 years and this is the year to step up and confirm what we thought about them. Patterson, Scott, Lightfoot, Aguirre, Artavius Jones, Pruitt, Trader, Carr. We develop the guys we have and this is a good football team.

Mendoza is not good. Do people not remember how he looked vs our terrible defense?

11/22 for 285

In that 285 he had completions of 57, 51, 66, & 56, all of which were **** poor defense and very short throws/screens.

I’d honestly rather roll with what we have and shore up the defense before going the route of Mendoza.

Go find a better QB than that.
No, we need to bring someone with experience in to compete for the job. Mendoza is solid, and having him in the room to either start, or at least push Emory and Nickel, is important. There is no Cam Ward out there. Mateer was the closest, behind him was a portal class well below what was available last year. But we can't have a QB room with so little experience

I'm just curious has anyone anywhere linked us to mendoza? I know within the fan base and myself included he makes a ton of sense now that Mateer is off the board but hopefully we didn't slow play him too much and are once again left without an option worth a ****. Hopefully the pull to play at home is intriguing to him if the staff even wants him. Who knows

I got roasted on X for echoing this. You need a QB anyways, why not bring in someone to elevate the room and increase competition? You currently have 3 QB's with what, 2 total starts between them? You don't want to line up with ND with that.

You put Mendoza in an offense with Lyle/Fletcher, a solid OL, Daniels/Concepcion + the other high upside receivers, and it can be a pretty good offense.

Mendoza had Ott (who was injured a bit) and their TE at Cal, that's it. OL was ******* terrible and WRs were some of the worst in the ACC.

Went to Columbus and grew up a Miami fan. From the area, so that would be a big draw. Haven't seen anyone else connected to him.

Mendoza was committed to Yale, clearly is a smart guy, leads me to believe he can process information quickly. He’s not the dual threat mateer is but would give us a veteran in the room with a year of starting experience.
Two years of starting experience. He's started in 22 games. High IQ, strong work ethic, decent arm talent. Could be a successful QB with a solid OL and weapons around him. He didn't have that at Cal.

Just heard his younger brother played for IU and they've had a nice year and will be looking for a new QB... I've seen articles that had other potential schools as UGA, IU, and UCLA but haven't actually seen anything official with planned visits etc. Oddly quiet on his. And 247 had him as the #3 portal QB. 1 and 2 have already committed to new schools

Real Gs move in silence.

Mendoza isn't Ward (or Mateer) by any stretch of the imagination, but when evaluating his past performance, it's important to take into account he'd be in a much more favorable position at UM.

California was last in all of College Football (along with FSU) in sacks allowed last season.

His lack of mobility doesn't help, but he'll be surrounded by much better playmakers and a far more formidable offensive line compared to his time at Cal. Not crowning him, as the gap between Mendoza and Emory isn't as wide as it was between Ward and Emory, but provided the price is somewhat reasonable, it's worth bringing him in as a mature QB with meaningful experience to compete. The defense still needs to be prioritized heavily. Ward had one of the best seasons in school history as a QB and all we could muster is the Toaster Strudel Bowl.

I purposely watched his best game and the FSU game so I can get the range and I'm lead to assume people haven't watched him. He's good.

He isn't Cam but there are 12 teams in the playoffs that don't have a Cam Ward or a Jaxson Dart for that matter.

We need to fill the holes on the defense with big time transfers. If they do that and sign Mendoza then we're cooking more than the average fans or offseason liars at FSU and Florida think.

I think he'd give us a first look/opportunity to make our case if we're interested. IU isn't outspending anyone, and UCLA was a disaster this year. UGA would be tough to beat out, but I'm skeptical they'd be interested, and there is a decent chance Beck comes back.

I’ve seen him compared to Drew Allar. I would take that in a heartbeat for the next 1 or 2 seasons.

The idea of bringing Mendoza in to compete is hilarious. If this dude is really going to get $1mm+ he’s not coming in to compete. And if there’s a competition, you ******* whiffed big time.

Also, a lot of “Bring him in and surround him with elite talent and get the defense right.” Where the **** is all that money coming from. You don’t spend $1mm+ on a game manager that you need to build a team around to carry you. That’s how you turn into the Dolphins.
