Chise, this thread was started back in October sir. The "almost" was something that I wasn't sure of at the time. That uncertainty has since been cleared up.

So you're guaranteeing if we sign this Lawerence Coleman kid the two five stars will sign on the dotted line for Miami when the time comes? That's a big call.

Lo tweeted out the same exact thing tonight.

Yeah I saw the tweet (on here somewhere), but that's no guarantee.

That's just Lorenzo trying to get his cousin a scholarship at a big university in crunch time as far as we know.

Btw do you have a link to his 247 / Rivals page? I'm interested in who he's been offered by (Coleman). Looks ok on the hudl highlights.

The object of recruiting is to fill out your roster as well. YOU say we're not looking to add "FIU level guys", but fact of the matter is, the guys YOU think should be here don't want to be here. LJ is a kid that wants to be here & his cousin Lo is simply trying to push for his cousin to get an offer, be it football or track. (which other schools have already offered).
What will it take to get the staff to offer Coleman?

If that's what it takes to get Lo, why don't they just get it done?

I honestly think it will get done. Miami was already looking at LJ as a possible track scholarship guy that will walk-on to the football team.

Doesn't that track scholarship immediately become a football scholarship the second he puts on pads? I thought that was the rule these days.

If we take this kid this year and Lingard doesn't sign in 2018 we aren't stuck with Coleman for four years. We can drop him if he doesn't perform in practice. It's a win-win to take him.

Best case scenario is it lands us two future five stars and he's a contributor. Worst case we don't get the two five stars and we tell the kid to transfer after a year.

Well in that situation worst case is wasting $60k and a spot that could have been filled by someone else in the 2018 class.

Worst case is Lingard tells us to kick rocks, we kick this Coleman kid off the team and the Williams kid gets offended and goes elsewhere too....

So what if the staff doesnt offer? Does that mean lingard aint coming here? Does that offer guranteed lingard?

Play the game. Get it done period. We got kids like terry mccray on scholarship... why not do it if it helps lock up a 5 star running back who is already sort of leaning to the U. And a potential 5 star safety in 2020 who loves Miami

Only becomes a football scholarship when they actually play in a game. They can practice with the football team without it becoming a football scholarship. We are doing the same thing with the speedster on the track team, forget his name but there's a thread on him.

Fair enough, thanks for the info.

I do wonder how that goes down with the track and field guys. I assume Coleman is a legit track guy for this to go down. Doesn't seem like everyone in the Hecht bows down to the football programme anymore.

I think this is the best route to take. Possible win win for all involved.

If he has legit track speed, I think that would make it more compelling for him to receive the football scholarship. based off his HL, he doesn't seem like a wasted scholarship anyway. But if he brings speed, then at least he's got potential to develop into a contributor down the line.

I see that Coleman ran an 11s mark in 100m. That's not bad but not as good as I was expecting. Does he have other better times?

Does that track team offer full scholarships? Baseball has to split a handful of scholarships for the whole team.

Brooklyndee what you think? should/would the staff take this chance?

Nah. Staff will not waste scholarships on players we don't want. That is the lone reason we don't have Holloman. Again it all about numbers.

Track (including cross country) gets 12.6 scholarships to hand out. Baseball gets 11.7. Football (85) and basketball (13) are the only men's head count sports.

Thanks. 12.6 to spread out amongst how many participants?
