Al Golden's failed evaluations of his camp kids aren't the reason we aren't at the level we want to be. Its another reason to go after him but you're *****ing about a handful of kids who haven't crippled the operation. Those kids have become less and less prevalent in the last two classes. Few if any who were "camp kids" have signed on signing day the last couple of years. The point in this thread that needs some research are the kids that were allegedly not brought in simply because the staff liked someone from the camp better. Who are those kids? What have they done in college?

I saw McKenzie mentioned. The kid himself thought he wouldn't be going to college because of how bad his grades were as recently as his junior year. Anyone with any knowledge of the situation know if he had a real shot of making it in at Miami? Better than Gray's shot? Or was it as simple as taking Berrios over McKenzie.

I don't know anything about McKenzie's grades but he's not the only stud South Florida kid that we chose not to offer.

Physically he didn't develop how Golden hoped he would have.
Happens all the time all over the nation. Not sure why folks are using this as some sort of implication against Golden.
All I have to do is look at the talent level of the current roster to know Golden's done a good job evaluating talent given the circumstances.

Yeah, the roster has more talent on it now but is that due to his evaluations? Most of these guys were no-brainers. You don't get evaluation credits for signing local guys that everybody wanted like Tracy Howard or Artie Burns.

However, you get evaluation credits DEDUCTED when you sign/offer guys like Danny Dillard, Larry Hope, Dennis Turner, etc... when there were better guys in your backyard.

How can anybody say his evaluations have been on-point? Who are the "under the radar" kids we have that actually contribute?

All of our best players are guys who had relatively impressive offer lists.

Tracy Coley
Phil Dorsett
Denel Perryman
Duke Johnson
Jon Feliciano
Erick Flowers
Artie Burns
Jamal Carter
Tracy Howard
Tyriq McCord
AQM
Anthony Chickillo
Deon Bush
Brandon Linder

These are our best players. Who did he "evaluate" here? Those guys were no-brainers.

The questionable evaluation skills shine through when you see us pass up guys like Skai Moore...or when we offer several Corners who did nothing in high school but don't offer the kid who leads the state in interceptions...or when we offer Danny Dillard instead of a RB/CB in our backyard who runs a 4.38 and finished his senior season with 1900 total yards.

Anybody can "evaluate" and sign the no-brainers.

Do you trust the evaluation skills of Notre Dame, Florida, Oklahoma, UCLA, Ole Miss, Vanderbilt, Clemson, Texas A&M, Georgia, Auburn, South Carolina, etc?

They are OFF the roster now, so whats the problem? Lol, the crime would be to keep players who dont produce OR dont produce quickly enough on our roster, causing to us to have bad play. We take chances on guys too. Everybody wants to be a Frank Beamer, but believe me, nobody talks about kids who he and his staff thought would pan out, and end up missing. But we will continue to put him under a microscope for just giving a kid a chance?

Exactly, who have been the unheralded kids that have stepped up for us? I guess Jenkins falls in that category but many of them have been total duds, and not one has been a total stud yet.

If you're gonna offer a "sleeper" or developmental guy, why not offer the one who excelled in your backyard against top competition?

If you're gonna extend a questionable offer then why not give it to a local stud who has offers from good out-of-state schools?

What's the problem?

The problem is that we offer kids like them while the kids we DON'T offer go onto other schools and excel. The problem is that we offered them AT ALL.

You want as little dead weight on your team as possible. While we were "taking a chance" on guys like Dillard or Hope there were other guys that we didn't offer who are producing.

Dead weight = waste of scholly = no competition in practice = complacent team

If you're gonna "take a chance" on a kid then make sure it's a kid who actually balled out in high school, not some questionable/developmental guy.

I've been saying it for a while: the biggest indictment on Golden's evaluations are the players he has gotten from his camp.

Those kids are the best reflection of his evaluation style and they have been bad.

Who are the kids that are balling out? You bring up the Moreau kid alot. As of now on the college level he has done most of his impressing in practice with high praise from his teammates and coaches. He is UCLA's equivalent of a Greentree All-American to this point. You're also talking about 3 recruiting cycles ago. That stuff isn't happening with the same frequency. How many kids are still earning their offer at camps while only having offers from BC and Indiana?

It's not about offering a camp kid OVER somebody else. It's the fact that we'll offer a questionable kid that camped but not offer a local kid who excelled on the field.

I can't tell you all the kids who were passed up for camp kids cause I don't know what Miami's board looked like. Just off the top of my head...

Skai Moore wasn't offered.

Danny Dilliard, Larry Hope and Nate Dortch got offers over Fabian Moreau.

Dennis Turner, Nigel Bethel and Ryan Mayes got offers over Juwan Dowels.

Sean White and Wade Freebeck weren't offered but we offered Alin Edouard and Malik Rosier.

Now obviously many of those kids haven't played a down of college football yet so we don't know right or wrong for another couple years, but if I'm extending offers then I'm giving them to the kids who EXCELLED down here not just some kid who looked good running around in shorts.

Figs and Kamalu. Two projected starters weren't no brainers. They were lightly recruited for different reasons but after their first year those two evaluations seem to be good ones.

Actually Moreau started 12 games last season and made All Conference honorable mention. That's after his Sophomore season, playing a position he's never played before. Right now he's over 6'0" 200lbs and just clocked a 4.41 laser-timed forty. He's already better than any CB we have at Miami, minus Howard, and his ceiling is way higher than his. He's got 1st/2nd round CB written all over him.

Anybody and everybody with evaluation skills saw his potential when he was a Senior in high school. College coaches used to 'SMH' when they found out that Miami wasn't even looking at him.

You guys wanna talk about evaluation skills? A scenario like Moreau's is a perfect example. THAT is where a coach's evaluation skills show up. It should've been a no-brainer to offer a kid in your backyard who's 6'0" tall with long arms, runs a 4.38, verticals 36" and had 1900 total yards his Senior year. Instead you offer marginal athletes like Danny Dillard, Larry Hope and Nate Dortch.

If you were gonna take an "under the radar" kid then why not THAT^ one? smh

Figs and Kamalu. Two projected starters weren't no brainers. They were lightly recruited for different reasons but after their first year those two evaluations seem to be good ones.

They haven't done **** yet. And here you are telling me Moreau hasn't done anything and he started 12 games last year and made All-Conference honorable mention.

Malik Rosier wasn't a camp offer. Coley liked him so he offered him. He targeted him in early 2013. He excelled on the field as a dual threat QB. They got their headliner in Kaaya later on. I don't see Freebeck and White as clear upgrades. I actually think Rosier has more physical tools. The trump card for you will probably be the offer list I assume.
