Figs and Kamalu. Two projected starters weren't no brainers. They were lightly recruited for different reasons but after their first year those two evaluations seem to be good ones.

They haven't done **** yet. And here you are telling me Moreau hasn't done anything and he started 12 games last year and made All-Conference honorable mention.

I stand corrected. I remember this discussion before last season and I didn't follow up on him.

His next INT will be his first.

I will say Deon Bush made honorable mention last year and we both know he didn't look as good as he did as a freshman.

I have no problem with questionable offers or "under the radar" type kids or kids who are tad bit under-sized...

But...

At least extend those offers to the kids who balled out in your backyard, not some kid who's a dud on Friday nights but looked good running around in shorts at your camp.

And if you have offers from schools like Clemson, Notre Dame, Oklahoma, UCLA, Vanderbilt, Florida, Texas A&M, Auburn, etc...then you're not "under the radar" in my opinion.

How can anybody say his evaluations have been on-point? Who are the "under the radar" kids we have that actually contribute?

Armbrister

Armbrister? Yawn.
Eddie Johnson's career lasted like 23 minutes. We don't know how good he was.
Gunter? Yawn. Moreau ****es on Gunter and they were in the same class.
Figs ain't done **** yet.

All we know about Figs and Eddie Johnson is that they are/were good athletes. They haven't done anything yet.

Are the same camp offers being made? Are they still signing? Most of these mistakes mentioned are from three years ago.

He could end his career with zero interceptions and it won't matter. He's got a higher upside than anybody we have at CB. He also could've been playing RB here while we were shorthanded and forced to hand the ball off to lead-foot Dallas Crawford.

Two important words: EVALUATING UPSIDE.

Uh, yeah, Dennis Turner and Ryan Mayes over Juwan Dowels just to name one.

And again, it ain't just about camps. It's about NOT offering studs who excel in your backyard.

Moreau doesn't **** on Gunter. Moreau probably has more physical tools when the combine rolls around but Gunter has been more productive.

Al Golden's failed evaluations of his camp kids aren't the reason we aren't at the level we want to be. Its another reason to go after him but you're ****ing about a handful of kids who haven't crippled the operation. Those kids have become less and less prevalent in the last two classes. Few if any who were "camp kids" have signed on signing day the last couple of years. The point in this thread that needs some research are the kids that were allegedly not brought in simply because the staff liked someone from the camp better. Who are those kids? What have they done in college?

I saw McKenzie mentioned. The kid himself thought he wouldn't be going to college because of how bad his grades were as recently as his junior year. Anyone with any knowledge of the situation know if he had a real shot of making it in at Miami? Better than Gray's shot? Or was it as simple as taking Berrios over McKenzie.

I don't know anything about McKenzie's grades but he's not the only stud South Florida kid that we chose not to offer.

Exactly. You don't know. That was why I asked. Who were the kids turned away strictly because they liked a "camp kid" better?

It's not about offering a camp kid OVER somebody else. It's the fact that we'll offer a questionable kid that camped but not offer a local kid who excelled on the field.

I can't tell you all the kids who were passed up for camp kids cause I don't know what Miami's board looked like. Just off the top of my head...

Skai Moore wasn't offered.

Danny Dilliard, Larry Hope and Nate Dortch got offers over Fabian Moreau.

Dennis Turner, Nigel Bethel and Ryan Mayes got offers over Juwan Dowels.

Sean White and Wade Freebeck weren't offered but we offered Alin Edouard and Malik Rosier.

Now obviously many of those kids haven't played a down of college football yet so we don't know right or wrong for another couple years, but if I'm extending offers then I'm giving them to the kids who EXCELLED down here not just some kid who looked good running around in shorts.

Malik Rosier wasn't a camp offer. Coley liked him so he offered him. He targeted him in early 2013. He excelled on the field as a dual threat QB. They got their headliner in Kaaya later on. I don't see Freebeck and White as clear upgrades. I actually think Rosier has more physical tools. The trump card for you will probably be the offer list I assume.

You don't think Rosier is a questionable offer? A bit of a reach?

You'd take a kid from Alabama who has offers from the likes of Arkansas State over two local kids who have offers from Auburn, Florida, Vanderbilt, etc?

All Crawford did was score double digit TDs but I get it your boy is a god amongst men.

Production has to match upside. 2 years in and he is a bit player. He should ball out this year. He hasn't done it yet

Mayes is a prime example from the previous cycle, as he was offered and Dowels never was.

Questionable takes in the current class like Ty Gauthier and Geron Christian are guys who committed after camping just weeks ago. Obviously they haven't signed yet and could be pushed out if we're able to land better talent, but for now they're a part of the class. Gosier is another example. At least he's a plus athlete with a high ceiling, but we're taking kids like that because elite talents at the position like Ridley and Cain have already committed elsewhere.

When Johnson was with the team, he contributed.
Gunter has contributed.
Armbrister has contributed.
And it doesn't take any special skill to see that Figueroa will be contributing soon.

Look, we get it, you obviously feel your boy Moreau got overlooked by the staff. Who knows why. But it happens all the time. That year they had Bush and Jenkins with a lot more positions to fill.
Anyhow, overall, positives outweigh the negatives and considering the circumstances they've had to deal with I consider that they've done good job.

Yeah if you look at interceptions as the only measure of production.

They basically only play two coverages at UCLA, Cover-3 and man. Neither one is gonna help a CB register a ton of picks. If picks are your measure then I don't know what to tell you. Watch a UCLA game and you'll notice that teams rarely try Moreau's side.

Who cares if he is from Alabama? South Florida isn't where great QBs are born. I've seen all three and I don't think the two are clearly better. One brings an element the others don't bring. You have a duplication with Kaaya, Freebeck and White. They got their traditional QB and targeted a dual threat it appears.

This ain't about Moreau or the fact that he's my boy. I wish there was a different player I could use as an example but Moreau's situation is a perfect one.

Those players you named had no choice but to "contribute" cause we had nothing else. Yeah, they contributed, they played but they didn't really do ****.

We're talking about evaluations and the Moreau situation is a perfect example because we signed Gunter, Dillard, Hope and Dortch instead. (cause we didn't EVALUATE Moreau properly)

How about passes defensed? Passes broken up? Gunter has done more. They aren't far off in tackles either. I think Moreau wound up with 5 more. You're exaggerating how much better he has been.

That's your excuse? They were targeting DIFFERENT TYPES of QB's?

Please.

How 'bout you just sign the best ******' QB's in your backyard?

"Ehh we're gonna pass up the best QB in South Florida (White) because we already have a QB with his skillset. Let's go get some unknown kid from Alabama."

Lmao. Really?

So what if the QB's you sign have the same skillset! Who the **** said you have to have a roster full of QB's with all different skillsets. What's wrong with having a roster full of really good Pro Style QB's? What happens if White goes to Auburn and balls out? We say "Oh it's okay. We already had a QB with his skillset when he was coming out of high school." <--LOL

How 'bout Moreau's never played CB in his life and he just started 12 games on a team who would mop the floor with Miami?

I'd say that in itself is accomplishing more than Gunter.

And where is Gunter going from here vs. where Moreau is going?

The kid has never played CB before. Him starting 12 games at a top-25 team and making honorable mention All Conference is kinda balling if you ask me.
