Dwayne Hoilett

"sleeper" doesn't mean nobody knows who you are. Just about every kid Miami takes will have offers. Hoilett's offers were from mostly second-tier schools, not national championship contenders.

Still. He did really well at a Nike camp with other high profile recruits. Hindsight is 20/20

Cool. His best offer other than Miami was Michigan State. He was pretty much ignored by the major schools in the south. He was a sleeper, or he was supposed to be. Instead he was another kid that Al Golden "evaluated" poorly.

Just so we can note this for when we are looking for a new coach: Michigan State does not know good defense.

Not sure why that's relevant. Michigan State is allowed to try to recruit lightly-recruited kids, too. If you're ignored by just about every major school in your region except for one, then you're a "sleeper" prospect. Another failed Al Golden evaluation.

It is relevant because many have listed the defensive coordinator of MSU as a top candidate to replace Golden and have also made the comment on the recruiting board that a MSU offer for a defensive recruit is a good offer.

OK. And you're trying to tell me that Hoilett was not some sleeper, under the radar type kid. His best offer in the South, other than Miami, was Kentucky. He was a sleeper and lightly recruited among the major schools. End of story. Quit trying to disagree just for the **** of it. There's simply no argument to be made that a kid who was ignored by the major schools in his own region was not a sleeper.

LOL @ the double standard on this board. (from the Golden fans)

If Golden offers a kid with a mediocre offer list it's "Golden finding sleeper recruits."

When he doesn't offer a kid who dominates locally it's "He doesn't even have any offers from the Big-3 so he shouldn't get a Miami offer."

Meanwhile, you got kids from South Florida who are offered by good teams from around the country such as Notre Dame, Texas A&M, Oklahoma, UCLA, Clemson, South Carolina, etc...and their not getting offers from Miami. SMH

It's so bad that many of our fans will form their opinion on a player based on whether we offered or not. If a local kid has offers from other good programs but not Miami the response is always "he's not Miami caliber" but then everybody we do offer is a "stud sleeper recruit".

RECIPE FOR SUCCESS:

Sign the best high school football players from your backyard!!!!!

THE END!

I did not opine on Hoilett, his nature as a sleeper or whether he was a good or bad recruit other than I don't feel the need to attack him or use him to attack the staff when most of us would be glad to have a guy not cutting it gone.

It's shocking to me that you used the single worst team rank Miami was given by any service, instead of an aggregate like 247's.

And that was still out of the top 10. Not good enough. What point are you trying to make again? That Golden's recruiting didn't fall off even though both classes after 2012 have been ranked lower than 2012's class? Uh, good argument.

"Falling off" is a much more loose term when, I don't know, you're referring only to services with a ten-point disparity instead of a two or three. My argument is that you'd rather cherry pick evidence to suit your point, instead of making accurate, considering statements--because "slightly less regarded classes" doesn't have the same sting as "recruiting has fallen off". My argument has never been the classes were more highly ranked, and I've never said they were.

My best argument was that your name is still unfortunate.

That's a whole lot of words to say absolutely nothing.

A good vocabulary does not necessarily make one's point coherent, that's for sure.

Poor guy trying hard to avoid sounding like a typical CIS troglodyte.

LEAD ME DAMMIT.

No doubt, it sounds like basic elementary but then why aren't WE doing it?

Why do we have kids down here who have offers from good out-of-state programs but not Miami? And on the other hand, why do we offer kids from down here who's other best offer is Akron or some other Podunk school?

If our evaluations are so good then why don't other schools trust them?

You'd think, if Miami didn't offer a South Florida kid then it would be difficult for that kid to receiver offers from good out-of-state programs, right? Logic would say "If he's in Miami's backyard and they didn't offer him he's probably not good enough to recruit." Matter of fact, don't we use that logic on this board when we're recruiting kids from Cali and Pennsylvania? Well it's quite the opposite. We don't offer certain kids and out-of-state programs come down here and go "LOL, come with us kid."

IMO our staff over-thinks. It's very simple to me. SIGN THE BEST FOOTBALL PLAYERS FROM YOUR BACKYARD. Common sense tells me, if a kid can excel at high school ball down here then he's legit and can play at the University of Miami. With the amount of talent down here, kids are playing against D-1 athletes almost every week. If a kid like Isaih McKenzie can make everybody in South Florida look foolish on Friday nights then what in the world makes you think he can't do the same in college?

In my opinion, and it's strictly my opinion, players this staff offers have to have projectable talent and also must have strong character.

This staff does not seem to cow tow to prima donnas.

I don't know recruits personally. I don't even live in the time zone, but it does seem that many, if not most, of the national recruits need to be "shown the love."
I don't just mean duffel bag love, but they act like every school should drop to their knees and open wide.

Seems to me that Golden isn't going to blow any recruit ala Muschamp.

Our top recruits during Golden's time also seem to be our hardest workers, and that example trickles down to everybody.

You bring in a couple divas, who expect preferential treatment, and chemistry will turn to Shiit.

If Golden doesn't want to blow top recruits, he shouldn't be coaching big time college football. The amount of excuses people will make is unbelievable.

We've declined to offer (or even recruit) plenty of kids who aren't the diva types. Shoot, we offered Nigel Bethel, who just punched a girl in the face. We could've/should've offered another 5'10" Corner from the region who led the state in interceptions and has zero character issues but we didn't.

We offered Torrance Gibson, didn't we? He's apparently got plenty of character issues. How about Gabe Terry? Isiah McKenzie and Skai Moore weren't diva types.

Exactly.

All these **** coaches blow the kids. It's what they do.

It's a reason SHannon didnt croot Central kids, I think it has to be a reason GOlden didnt croot certain kids.* maybe he doesnt get along eith certain coaches)..I remember people in the hood mad we didnt go after SNoop Minnis back in the day....FOr the most part I think he goes after the nest players down here theres only a few he didnt go after and they happened to be from Broward, I cant thin of anybody form Miami that we didnt go after
