Dwayne Hoilett

yeah we just happen to have 3 of the best rb's in the country committed right now. I dont think people will ever understand the mess they took over. If duke doesnt commit and pitch others, we are way behind.

That was the only slightly Miami-caliber class Golden has had, because he could sell a dream and Duke recruited for him.

Your opinions seem balanced, well-scrutinized and objective.

Yeah they aren't based upon fact or anything. Plenty of first-year coaches have great recruiting classes, then fall off when they don't produce on the field. Same **** happened to Golden because players saw the awful product he put out.

If I had a handle which recent history has rendered childish and woefully inaccurate, I might similarly be unable to remember the 2013 class, which is a quintessential Miami haul. It is not "based in fact" to completely disregard 50% of the data you're discussing.

It's a small, pithy drum, but I'll continue to beat it: the vast majority of this board has no interest in discussing, learning or truly analyzing. No comfort with the unknown. Golden is a god or a dog, with no in between. I personally have no idea what to make of his tenure, which is remarkable after this number of seasons. It seems clear he's not a fantastic coach, and he may be quite poor. I don't know for certain, but the arguments posted are so certain and yet omit so much, I can't understand them.

That's a nice essay you wrote full of unnecessary words, but it's only a "quintessential Miami haul" in recent history. Which isn't very helpful. There's a reason UM has not produced a first round pick in at least 7 years. The bottom line is that the teams that win national titles now all have recruiting classes that rank year after year in the top 10. Miami's 2013 class ranked #20. Not good enough.

It's shocking to me that you used the single worst team rank Miami was given by any service, instead of an aggregate like 247's.

And that was still out of the top 10. Not good enough. What point are you trying to make again? That Golden's recruiting didn't fall off even though both classes after 2012 have been ranked lower than 2012's class? Uh, good argument.

I,mjist glad we are not to the point where we have to count on underclassman to carry the load. It's honestly the first year since Golden has arrived we aren't counting on or will have a true frosh with legit minutes unless they are just that much better. I think Kenny Phillips is the last player that earned/warranted the snaps as a true frosh that wasn't a liability/fill in bc we just didn't have the depth. It's starting to show tremendously that Golden is building something. It has taken a bit longer then what we as fans like but it's not a sprint it's a mile. Just look at the college landscape. The NCAA mess really put a damper on the first 2-3 classes. Without that I have no doubt we would be absolutely loaded this year with talent. I think we have a legit shot at winning the ACC this year. We should win the coastal. I think a BCS bowl win for 2015 no doubt.

"Falling off" is a much more loose term when, I don't know, you're referring only to services with a ten-point disparity instead of a two or three. My argument is that you'd rather cherry pick evidence to suit your point, instead of making accurate, considering statements--because "slightly less regarded classes" doesn't have the same sting as "recruiting has fallen off". My argument has never been the classes were more highly ranked, and I've never said they were.

My best argument was that your name is still unfortunate.

That's a whole lot of words to say absolutely nothing.

Or maybe the type of player we could get a couple of years ago under the dark cloud. Now that the cloud is gone you are seeing better coming in and the marginal players are getting squeezed out...

Another Al Golden "sleeper"

True but let's not act like Golden's never made any questionable evaluations and that we only took Hoilett cause we had a cloud over us.

When Golden was hired Golden was touted as some ace talent evaluator and talent developer because he had a couple players drafted at Temple. Well, Hoilett along with other Golden Camp offer-recipients were players that everyone said he'd develop because of Golden's previous "track record" of developing at players at Temple. What impact have the players he's offered at his camps had for us thus far? A whole lot of nothing so far.

He's actually offered kids he's seen at camp over kids who have actually PRODUCED ON THE FIELD of South Florida high school football.

"This kid doesn't do **** on Friday nights but he camped with us and looked real good. Offer!"

A good vocabulary does not necessarily make one's point coherent, that's for sure.

Poor guy trying hard to avoid sounding like a typical CIS troglodyte.

He had several offers and I remember he did very well at some Nike camp which looked promising..

"sleeper" doesn't mean nobody knows who you are. Just about every kid Miami takes will have offers. Hoilett's offers were from mostly second-tier schools, not national championship contenders.

Still. He did really well at a Nike camp with other high profile recruits. Hindsight is 20/20

Cool. His best offer other than Miami was Michigan State. He was pretty much ignored by the major schools in the south. He was a sleeper, or he was supposed to be. Instead he was another kid that Al Golden "evaluated" poorly.

Just so we can note this for when we are looking for a new coach: Michigan State does not know good defense.

More people posting about him now that he left the team than during his whole tenure combined.

Guess what, if the kid can't cut it, he needs to be cut. Nothing personal. Others need to be shown the door as well.

Not sure why that's relevant. Michigan State is allowed to try to recruit lightly-recruited kids, too. If you're ignored by just about every major school in your region except for one, then you're a "sleeper" prospect. Another failed Al Golden evaluation.
