DC Candidates(post 2024 season)

The biggest irony is Cristobal actually hired TWO solid DCs when he took the job. Both Kevin Steele and Charlie Skrong have forgotten more defense than Guidry has ever known. But I suspect they also had a little more feedback back Cristobal that he might not have liked, so Cristobal replaced them with a G5 coordinator who was just happy to be here.

UM fans dream that Cristobal is like Nick Saban. One of the things people overlook is that Saban didn’t care if he got along with his coaches. ONLY thing that mattered was performance. Saban could have a guy like Kiffin second guessing everything he did on offense, but if he did his job well on Saturday, he had place on the staff. Cristobal unfortunately seems to go in the opposite direction. His tendency when things go sideways is to hire coaches that don’t rock the boat.

I know all of these aren’t going to happen, but Mario needs these caliber of names to have a Top-5 defense and continue bringing in top players on defense. Somebody said it on here best, this program is spending too much money on mid players while missing on big ones:
  1. Clint Hurtt
  2. Jason Taylor
  3. Manny Diaz
  4. Will Muschamp
  5. Jim Knowles
  6. Wink Martindale
  7. Tim Banks
  8. Corey Raymond
  9. Clayton White
  10. Ryan Walters
Feel free to add more
Can we delete some.

Do you think Mario couldn't take Steele or Strong personalities?

I dunno meng.

Ryan Walters just got fired as Purdues HC. Should be Mario’s first call at DC. Dude was amazing at Illinios as their DC
he was very good at Mizzou also. he might want redemption. I'm not sure if he recruits at the level we need but he's young and he will teach kids the right way.

suspect nothing . Steele didnt want to be here at his age in a rebuilt, the kids weren't up to par for him so he went to Bama which was a top tier program loaded with top recruits. Stop making stuff up. Steele didnt hide it.

you also think Saban let his assistants tell him what to do? haha you are fried. he was the top dawg.

I’ll take coordinators who can scheme and put guys in the right place to make plays and let the position coaches recruit

This 100%. Get the right guy for the job. If the candidate is strong but also happens to be an alpha who wants ownership of the defense with minimal to no meddling, then hire him if he's the most qualified. I don't think that Mario would be capable of doing that but thats just based on conjecture

Brad White (UK), Clayton White (USCe), Clint Hurtt (Eagles DL Coach), Zach Arnett (Ole Miss Analyst), Ryan Walters (Purdue HC - is he fired yet?)
Would love to get Arnett. I mentioned Walters in another thread. I agree with your whole list (as usual).

He didn’t want the Miami job that he accepted and coached for a year knowing full well UM needed a rebuild and kids weren’t up to par?

And even if Steele wanted out,
Steele he could have been replaced as DC by Skrong. Dude pioneered the 3-3-5. But the last thing I think Cristobal wanted when things were going sideways was another accomplished HC second guessing him.

wtf are you talking about?
Dawson look like *** before Cam got here so let’s not make Dawson to be some good OC

Both Dawson and Gattis ran bunch formations with wide receiver screens, and an overuse of running up the gut. So yea Cam would have made Gattis new good as well
