DC Candidates(post 2024 season)

He didn’t want the Miami job that he accepted and coached for a year knowing full well UM needed a rebuild and kids weren’t up to par?

And even if Steele wanted out,
Steele he could have been replaced as DC by Skrong. Dude pioneered the 3-3-5. But the last thing I think Cristobal wanted when things were going sideways was another accomplished HC second guessing him.
he didnt want to be here once he got here. Strong and is like Muschamp, sometimes your time has passed.

So did Cam have the number 1 offense last year at Washington?
Honest question. I don't know.
At Washington state - No Cam didn’t however, there was a comparison made between Dawson and Gattis.

Gattis ran Bunch formations and so does Dawson which leads me to speculate that Mario is too heavy handed with the offense

he was very good at Mizzou also. he might want redemption. I'm not sure if he recruits at the level we need but he's young and he will teach kids the right way.
Not knowing much about the guy, it’s shocking to me that he was so successful as a DC. Both IU and ND put up 66 on him. Also gave up 50+ twice and 40+ twice this year. His defense ranked 129 in yards/game and his team looked completely dysfunctional for the majority of the season. Something seems way off when your team is incredibly bad at what is supposedly your strong suit.

So..... Cam didn't have the #1 offense until he got with Dawson and Mario and did all thise things you say they do....correct?
It must never effictive them.
I'm just trying to.follow your logic here.

We’ve now moved to “Steele and Strong were still good coordinators and Mario just didn’t want potential HC pressure” wooo boy

WSU had the #38 scoring offense last year, 1 spot ahead of the "inept" #39 Miami offense ran by TVD and Emory Williams. WSU did have a very good passing offense to be fair--#4 in passing yards, #130 in rushing yards. But Ward clearly had his best season at UM and best year-over-year improvement in his passer rating (11.5% from '22-'23 and 18% from 23' to '24). He's also moved into first round draft status. Cam's improvement and performance this season should be very helpful in attracting good QBs to UM going forward and dispelling the QB killer narrative (which was a myth anyhow). Some of Dawson's tendencies are annoying, but he's far from being a liability.

I know all of these aren’t going to happen, but Mario needs these caliber of names to have a Top-5 defense and continue bringing in top players on defense. Somebody said it on here best, this program is spending too much money on mid players while missing on big ones:
  1. Clint Hurtt
  2. Jason Taylor
  3. Manny Diaz
  4. Will Muschamp
  5. Jim Knowles
  6. Wink Martindale
  7. Tim Banks
  8. Corey Raymond
  9. Clayton White
  10. Ryan Walters
Feel free to add more
I would bring Travis Williams in for an interview….solid DC with recruiting prowess. Relates to kids and they play hard for him (pause). Had a pretty good year at Arkansas aside from the Ole Miss game. He would attract much better LBs and defensive players in general. Pair him with a high-end secondary coach and I think it’s more realistic of an option. Last time he was here for 20 minutes only because he got his first crack at DC. This time around, he has experience.

Keep seeing this but what was wards offense ranked at Washington state? We have awesome support around the qb and Ward was awesome creating the number 1 offense.
That's all on Cam... A normal college QB and we are looking at 2 more losses.
We have hit the ceiling with our HC, OC and DC... and we have the no ST to talk about.
This is our mountain top with Mario...

Not arguing Walter’s having success at Mizz and Illinois, but he defenses at Purdue have been god awful the last two years!!!

Aranda saved his job and Baylor has some $.

Wilcox? Eh idk. He's been there for a while. I just don't know if he'd leave.

I agree the next hire needs to be a legit P4 coach. Just like what USC did when they hired UCLA DC. Same with Ohio hiring Jim Knowles
Knowles ma be available in a few weeks with an OSU LOSS

Nicholson has a better shot of being promoted to DC.

And if that happens, I'll delete my CIS account
Should just fire Guidry let one of them be the DC for the rest of the season and hire an accomplished DC Idky Guidry hasn’t been fired yet he’s ******* drunk

Steele was still a good coordinator. I don’t know if Strong could still do it but he made more sense than Guidry.

And you tell me why Cristobal hired a coach who had been in the college coaching business since 1995 and never held a P5 job- not even a position coach job- until Cristobal made him DC for the University of Miami.

Ryan Walter’s is now available. Good DC but a terrible HC, that 2022 Illinois defense was fire and the #1 defense in college football. How much of it was Brett Bielema though?
Pass. Purdue defense ranked near the bottom. Not even a top 50. Miami finished 24th in total defense

Dawson and Ward both benefitted from each other, Ward was a day 3 pick before coming here, Dawson got a QB who could properly run his offense well, the dude can coach, he made crapbag Clayton Tune look good

TrumpyCane wants to know why this is hard for people to admit?

Dawson had the #1 offense in college this year.
His name hasn’t been getting thrown around much. I think people might be wary he was a product of the cam ward show. Right or wrong they will look at the body of work and that includes his Houston tenure and 2023
