DC Candidates(post 2024 season)

I agree with your assessment 100%. Personally I think that you hit in on the head regarding the evals/development with a lot of the players on defense. Overall however I believe that got to these levels of complete and ineptitude on defense through the perfect storm of talent level on defense being grossly overestimated plus a DC who was exposed as being clearly in over his head at this level from an X's and O's schematic/teaching and adjusting standpoint and unable to come up with any answers. Yes, the entire defensive staff needs to go. I saw zero evidence of a good position coach being obscured by that joke of a defense.

P.S. I'll go a little further and say it flat out. If Mario doesn't fire Guidry in the next 48 hours, then he isn't a serious man and we're not a serious program and I don't care how harsh that sounds. Accountability. Right Mario?
He won't fire him with the early signing day being this coming Wednesday

The firing will likely happen after Selection Sunday or soon thereafter.
I said in an earlier post I expect Guidry to be gone by Monday but your right with signing day and more importantly the SLIM chance we get in the big show he won’t be let go until after were officially eliminated.

Do you think Cam tripped and fell and ended up at Miami or is it possible that Dawson had a hand in recruiting him? He just helped turn a late-round flier into potentially a first-round quarterback. But for sure man, lets fire him.
I don't think we should fire Dawson but I am concerned with how many explosive plays are due to the "Cam factor" and not actually a schemed play.

Cam's and the WRs ability to succeed in the "scramble drill" was what percentage of our offense? 30? 50%? That is what concerns me with Dawson

Wow I feel so much better. Is that supposed to be an advantage? I'm sure the recruits are getting in line to play for Guidry. I'm just numb bro lol.
I hear you. I would fire him no doubt but I know that's how Mario will justify holding him a bit longer. At this point it needs to be also to send a message of how the abysmal play on defense won't be tolerated.

What has shown that Mario's ego will get in the way? I remember people exclaiming we would never get away from Bro Ball, and he went and did the exact opposite lol.
I completely agree with this take. I also think he’s started to overcome some of the stigma around QBs by making it a priority this year.

That said, I’m concerned that Mario might have a case of Dutch Boy syndrome—focusing on quick, reactive fixes year after year without addressing deeper systemic issues. For example, prioritizing certain positions in recruiting each year seems more like patchwork than a cohesive strategy.

Looking ahead to 2026, he’ll likely need to rethink resource allocation (NIL funds) when it comes to portal recruiting. We’ll need to invest in defensive playmakers and bring in coaches who can not only scheme effectively but also teach fundamentals like tackling.

I don’t have all the answers, but it feels like both fans and the administration need to adjust their expectations for next year. Avoiding a massive letdown and building momentum toward 2026 and 2027 has to be the focus. I had hoped we’d be further along by now, but the impact of first-year mistakes and questionable decisions is becoming more apparent.

We are just not in a position to hire a new DC. We would potentially be on our 3rd DC in 4 years. Who wants to come here after the first 2 failed? That’s why I think a promotion from within happens.

I said it when Mario hired Dawson and Guidry. What coach became successful after replacing both coordinators year 1? Mario has had chances to find the right coordinators but it hasn’t worked out. This can go south in a hurry.
If the alternative is sticking with something that's horrible and not going to work, do you do that just on principle or fear of looking like you made mistakes? Assistant coaches are mindful of their careers and are always looking for situations where they can show their skills by turning something around. Miami is currently perfect for that. Almost nowhere to go but up from this defensive incompetence.

It's not like this is an entire team problem where people can say Mario's just getting rid of everybody. We've had the #1 offense in the nation for the whole season. Getting the right coordinator can be a massive difference. Remember the change from D'Onofrio to Diaz? From Enos to Lashlee? Instant improvement.

Besides being an ex-NFL player why do ppl love JT
There does seem to be a pervasive feeling on CIS that former good players have some kind of smarts or magic that will make them great coaches. For years we heard talk of how great it would be if Ed Reed just walked in and replaced whatever DC we had (that's cooled down considerably lol) and Taylor's gotten similar favorable bias minus the cane connections.

It's already starting to go south. Miami is going to regress next season. This sucks, I'm tired of doing the whole fire coordinator thing and then the next season flops. When will this madness end?!? It's depressing. We do this song and dance every three to four years.

I think Reed Would be a terrible DC/Coach at this level. Now Ray Lewis has the right temperament, he could possibly be a very good coach.
