Canes to B1G?

We should join the SEC.

The Big10 is a great conference, but Miami is not a northern team. I know that Miami sees itself as the Stanford of the South or whatever and our leadership would probably rather hobnob with the President of Michigan rather than Alabama... but I just hope our snobbery doesn't become a barrier for us.

From a recruiting standpoint, to a travel standpoint, to a money standpoint, the SEC makes way more sense. If FSU is in the SEC and Miami in the Big 10, that helps FSU recruiting-wise in my opinion. I think South Florida kids prefer the SEC.

Miami is in the Southeast. Join the Southeastern Conference if it's an option (and it would be if we wanted it). It's not rocket surgery.

I don't hate the idea of the Big 10, but I think the SEC is a better choice IMO.
Great phrase" It's not rocket surgery.

We can also afford a wrestling team if they really need that.

I agree, and there is no doubt that it is a bizarre, bizarre move geographically and culturally. But if the B1G comes calling, we'd be assclowns not to jump in.

Stop focusing on “northern” team. Who there other than UF generates us revenue? None. What incentive does the SEC have in seeing Miami be a top tier program again? None.

We go to the Big 10 and we generate a **** ton of money playing OSU and PSU every year since we all don’t like each other. We play Nebraska every year which generates money for the conference and us being there probably tips ND into going the Big 10 as well which lead to use playing them…and generating a **** ton of money.

The SEC has no interest in us being great because they have their blue bloods already plus UT and Oklahoma while the Big 10 would be absolutely invested in seeing us become our former selves because it would create a juggernaut to combat the SEC with Us, OSU, PSU, Wisconsin, and Michigan leading the charge. There is no other school out there right now that has the potential to be able to go toe to toe with the SEC than us and they know it. They have all the reason in the world to be invested in our success.

FSU generates us revenue. That's not a rivalry game that should be lost IMO. If they go SEC and we go Big 10, that game is finished.

The reason the SEC would add us is ESPN. We're a big brand, and that's the name of the game in this realignment - collecting big brands that create flashy matchups for must-see-TV.

If the SEC tells us "no," then yeah, go to the Big 10. It beats the **** out of the ACC. But if the reason is some kind of elitism where we see ourselves as being more like Michigan and less like Alabama, then our motives are bad... that's my point. SEC works a lot better for us if that's an option.

The thought of the resurrected CANES rolling through the Big Ten and settling some unfinished business while the Gators and Noles are getting their ***** beat in the SEC ...

Exactly. Let FSU go to the SEC. They will never be promoted by the SEC with their blue bloods plus UT and OU in their conference.

Too bad so sad. The SEC is not going to promote them over their blue bloods, UT, and OU. If they want to go be 2nd fiddle then so be it and we’ll definitely be a 2nd fiddle to the SEC…maybe even 3rd fiddle like we’re Mizzou or something. There’s four potential games that could be played in the Big 10 that combined will topple the revenue that just UM v. FSU makes. I’m playing the long game and focusing on a conference that would be focused on our success. They would want us to return to form because outside of Clemson we’re the only team with the potential to consistently battle the Blue bloods in the SEC and they know it.

If Clemson and FSU go to the SEC, every conference is going to feel extremely watered down, and FSU will have a serious recruiting advantage.

Lulz. Those turds would win 3-4 games a year. They would be a disaster

It's a interesting debate as to which area is a better cultural fit for Miami. Miami isn't a southern redneck town. You have a lot of folks from the eastern seaboard and especially from the New York/New Jersey area. The school fancies itself as being a rich private school with top academics, which isn't exactly the reputation of the SEC (minus Vandy).

My preference would have been for the ACC to add ND, UCF and a Penn State but that's fantasy land. From a football perspective, it's great. Would love playing UM and OSU on a somewhat regular basis but the rest of the conference - yawn. From a $ perspective, no brainer.

Long-term Options from most to least desirable:
1. SEC(y)(y)(y)
2. Big Ten(y)
3. Return to pre-1991 independent status :cautious:
40. Drop football 😭
41. Focus on building up soccer program 🥱
42. Remain in league with other ACC orphans :****:

I don’t disagree with a lot of what you’re saying, but the Big 10 rakes in money. I’m pretty sure their payout per team was larger than the SEC last year. If you add Miami’s tv market and ND to their collective bargaining, that contract will be HUGE.

My take on the entire landscape:

Miami to SEC:
Pros: $, initial relevance,
Cons: I highly doubt the SEC would take Miami. It has its small private school in Vandy and I don't think it has ANY interest in taking on another. Add a lack of an on-campus stadium, and I don't think we would have a prayer to get in. That being said, this could all change if somehow we beat Bama and the ratings are astronomical. But more important con, it opens up our recruiting grounds (even more than they already are) to Saban and the SEC powers. One of the biggest sells we have is to stay home so the family and friends can watch. That goes away to some extent if the SEC teams will be coming down here to play every year. Texas is going to run into the same issue. This move for them is going to their on-field results significantly.

Miami to B10:
Pros: $, other high-academic institutions, similar competitive balance (Top tier OSU, 2nd tier PSU, Mich, Wisc., Iowa, and (hopefully) Miami, third tier everyone else).
Cons: Proximity, Weather, and the fact that we will have to get over the hurdle of not being an AAU member. They let Nebraska in, so it is not unprecedented. But it will be a tough hurdle. And yes, they will let ND in despite non-AAU membership. But we are not as attractive of an option for the B10 as ND. They are the program every conference wants to have. That is important to recognize, despite how stupid it is.

Miami to PAC 12:
Pros: other high-academic institutions, slight bump in $, even competitive balance.
Cons: Super far away proximity and lack of success/appearances in the playoff leading to diminished reputation as worst P5 conference.

Miami to Big 12:
Pros: Proximity, slight bump in $
Cons: They are a sinking ship that is likely to be blown to pieces in the next decade

Final Verdict: B10 would be the best option IF they would agree to let us in. Good academics, fairly even football competitiveness, good basketball conference, we would have a distinct advantage in baseball over a majority of the teams, gives the U more exposure in the Northeast where UM gets a ton of students from, stable conference.

The cold thing would be a challenge but we already play against BC and Pitt. It's not like it would be totally new. Kids get used to it. Additionally, as someone who has lived all over the midwest, most of these schools aren't nearly the frozen tundra that people in Florida think they are.

WI, NW, MN, MSU, PSU and Mich are pretty far north but they usually don't get dumped on snow-wise until December.

Columbus, Bloomington, W. Laf, Maryland, Ill, are much more temperate climates.

Point being, Aug - Nov - Canes would not be consistently dumped on in all their away games. Maybe one a year.
