Canes QB Ryan Williams says he's still targeting Wk 1 start

Crying about what may be 49 days in advance is really sad.

I understand there is a huge question mark at QB, but why destroy a thread about the guy fighting his way back just to ****?
- Heaps - Zero known about him with our team.
- Williams - Limited information as a starter. Coming off major injury.
- Crow - No major snaps
- Olsen - RS Freshman
- Kaaya - Freshman
- Rosier - Freshman

The only people who destroyed this thread were your ilk, who got their panties in a bunch when I said how important RW would be to any success this year.

Posting with blinders on optimism about what may be 49 days in advance is really sad.

My ilk. Of course. Always the divisive bull****. You post a sarcastic comment and people didn't care for it and then you argue for 6 pages. Nothing I said has anything to do with blind optimism unless don't **** on Williams for having a good work ethic or there will be more playmakers on the field game one than last time we played is blind optimism.

Duke, Dorsett and Yearby > Hurns --- pretty ****ing simple --- blind to not see that.

My comment wasn't sarcastic you nitwit. You still haven't realized that my first post in this thread was crediting Williams, have you?

It's a fair opinion. I just don't think our skill position players are good enough to save us from bad QB play.

This is what I was trying to reiterate to you earlier in this thread. Last year we had bad QB play from Morris. Most would agree that he underachieved especially after the finishing the season the way he did the year before. The defense was horrible but we were still able to win 9 games. That was in large part due to our skill positions on offense.

It was in largest part due to the horrible teams we got the wins against.

We play those same horrible teams this year.

Not true.

Instead of UF, Savannah State, and FAU, we have:

Cincinnati
Nebraska
Arky St.

Nebraska is an away game, which will be tough. They aren't a great team but they win 8+ games just about every year with Pelinni, and Golden has one win against a team with 8 or more wins in his career at UM. He has 12 losses. I'm not expecting UM to win that game, because we haven't shown that we can beat even good teams with this coaching staff, and the game is on the road in a very hostile environment. Cincinnati could be a tough game, too. They're well coached and they were a solid team last year. In any event, they're better than FAU by a long shot. Arkansas St. is likewise a team that won a bowl game last year--far cry from a team like Savannah St.

Our out of conference schedule is much tougher this year, and then our in conference schedule is basically the same except that we also have Louisville on the road.

Yes, analytically its tougher but I'm not really thinking at that way. Put it this way, if we lose at home vs Cincy and Arky St that we have a huge issues and the season is over anyway. We probably lose 6+ and we have a new coach next year. So while its more difficult, IMO the season is about these 6 games, which is the same 6 as last year but sub UF for @Neb (since we played UL in the bowl game):

@Louisville
@Nebraska
Duke
@VTech
UNC
FSU

Great. Maybe we can have another incredible 9 win season because it seems that's what the dumbed down expectations around here consider top notch stuff.

My point being in year 4 you should win the Coastal and 10 games with our schedule.

No one is shytting on Williams. And Duke and Dorsett were on the team last year.

Should have done that last year too.

Bunch of dopey *** Charlie Browns in here running up on that football for the 300th time getting ready to kick it before Lucy pulls it away. QB's better. Skill guys are better. Everything's better!

You forgot D'Onofrio and Golden. Scheme is so bad, it can't get worser.

Game day coaching is just above worser-est, because our skill players will compensate for Golden. Instead of losing six, we lose four.

A 9 win season is still an improvement over last year. This is what I expect to happen this year:
1) ACC Championship Game. Which I think means in Conference, max of 1 loss in Coastal. Out of Conference, Beat everyone except maybe Nebraska. This means at least 9 wins.
2) Win whatever bowl game we are in. Not just be competitive.
3) Duke, Coley, Flowers, Perryman, and Howard are All-Americans, at least 1 1st team.
4) Land 5 stud DB's, All 4 Hb's (Because Walton stays 2016), and one of those beasts from Virginia, Sweat would probably be too much to ask for though.
5) Our defense to improve a lot, not a little. Honestly though I hope more than anything Donofrio just gets fired, and Golden gives up on running a 34.

if the first happens (which it wont), then the last wont happen

Sarcasm on a message board could be misinterpreted. You obviously were giving him credit. Then argued for 6 pages how he sucks. Sounds legit.

Not necessarily. Our offense can improve enough to counteract our defense, I mean after all, Our offense could have been MUCH better last year if Morris wasn't playing terribly and Duke didn't get hurt. I think if our defense improves at all, even if it's just a little bit, Golden will use that as an excuse to keep Donofrio. So, in a way I hope it doesn't because I want him gone. However, I also want to win as many games as possible, so I want the D to improve....

no offense but you are completely neutered as a fan. that is complete dog****.

we should have a dominant defense regardless of what the offense does. this defense that F.A.G. runs has been proven to be terrible at this level. Al Groh was fired from GT midseason for having a 4 game stretch that is an average ACC game for this clown staff.

this staff will not produce a dominant defense. that is what I want and expect. I am not interested in improvement into the top 50 or other such nonsense. it is a crime how much F.A.G. has lowered expectations.

a top 40 defense used to look HORRIBLE as a Miami fan. now it is something we can only wish for. just unreal

And Dorsey didn't beat out Kenny Kelly because he wasn't as good as Kenny Kelly. See how that works?
All those skill position guys can make an average QB look good. Except Morris didn't look good last year, and the guys behind Morris couldn't beat him out, and the only other two new guys are a Kansas reject and a freshman.

Ryan didn't beat out morris because morris played pretty well under fisch after that there was no way golden was going to bench him midway thru his senior year , williams is a game manager not a huge arm but , with stacy and dorsett and a back like duke he will get the job done

Ryan didn't beat out Morris because he wasn't as good as Morris.

Ken Dorsey didn't "beat out" Kenny Kelly because he was a fuggin freshman. Ryan Williams has plenty of experience and already had a whole year starting under his belt at Memphis. So no, your comparison sucks.

Gotta love how on this board you're an idiot if you say that player X, who was above player Y on the depth chart, is indeed better than player Y.

Bottom line is RW is the type of field manager that could help the D as well. We need ball control and a QB that can read the D and hit the open target. Best protection for our D is to limit their time on the field.

Yeah, but Kenny Kelly couldn't hit the broad side of a Bubba Franks. See how the O took off when that "fuggin freshman" took over? Sometimes when a guy is the starter he remains the starter even if he struggles. It does NOT mean the guy behind him is worse, just that the coaching staff is more comfortable with the guy they know. Especially when that guy has a bigger upside than the backup who just manages the game.

No, I didn't "argue" that he sucks. I said that he's probably not better than the guy he couldn't beat out last year. And somehow that means he sucks and he's a horrible player and I'm bashing him. You really need to learn to read without acting like an emotional child before you post.

Again, your argument as to why junior Ryan Williams is better than the senior he didn't beat out was because a true freshman didn't beat out a senior 15 years ago. OK. If you think the situations are remotely comparable, you aren't very smart.
