Canes QB Ryan Williams says he's still targeting Wk 1 start

This is what I was trying to reiterate to you earlier in this thread. Last year we had bad QB play from Morris. Most would agree that he underachieved especially after the finishing the season the way he did the year before. The defense was horrible but we were still able to win 9 games. That was in large part due to our skill positions on offense.

It was in largest part due to the horrible teams we got the wins against.

We play those same horrible teams this year.

Great. Maybe we can have another incredible 9 win season because it seems that's what the dumbed down expectations around here consider top notch stuff.

My point being in year 4 you should win the Coastal and 10 games with our schedule.

We have the hardest schedule in the ACC.

A 9 win season is still an improvement over last year. This is what I expect to happen this year:
1) ACC Championship Game. Which I think means in Conference, max of 1 loss in Coastal. Out of Conference, Beat everyone except maybe Nebraska. This means at least 9 wins.
2) Win whatever bowl game we are in. Not just be competitive.
3) Duke, Coley, Flowers, Perryman, and Howard are All-Americans, at least 1 1st team.
4) Land 5 stud DB's, All 4 Hb's (Because Walton stays 2016), and one of those beasts from Virginia, Sweat would probably be too much to ask for though.
5) Our defense to improve a lot, not a little. Honestly though I hope more than anything Donofrio just gets fired, and Golden gives up on running a 34.

if the first happens (which it wont), then the last wont happen

Not necessarily. Our offense can improve enough to counteract our defense, I mean after all, Our offense could have been MUCH better last year if Morris wasn't playing terribly and Duke didn't get hurt. I think if our defense improves at all, even if it's just a little bit, Golden will use that as an excuse to keep Donofrio. So, in a way I hope it doesn't because I want him gone. However, I also want to win as many games as possible, so I want the D to improve....

no offense but you are completely neutered as a fan. that is complete dog****.

we should have a dominant defense regardless of what the offense does. this defense that F.A.G. runs has been proven to be terrible at this level. Al Groh was fired from GT midseason for having a 4 game stretch that is an average ACC game for this clown staff.

this staff will not produce a dominant defense. that is what I want and expect. I am not interested in improvement into the top 50 or other such nonsense. it is a crime how much F.A.G. has lowered expectations.

a top 40 defense used to look HORRIBLE as a Miami fan. now it is something we can only wish for. just unreal

I understand and agree these coaches wont give us a top 30 D. But im also not so dillusional that i expect us to go undefeated, otherwise the season is a failure. I expect constant improvement until we get to the point where we are nation title contenders. Ut seems like most fans think anything but a national championship is failure, and that is just stupid. And yeah it is embarrasing being miami and hoping for a top 50 D, but that doesnt mean we cant win games still.

Yeah, but Kenny Kelly couldn't hit the broad side of a Bubba Franks. See how the O took off when that "fuggin freshman" took over? Sometimes when a guy is the starter he remains the starter even if he struggles. It does NOT mean the guy behind him is worse, just that the coaching staff is more comfortable with the guy they know. Especially when that guy has a bigger upside than the backup who just manages the game.
Ken Dorsey didn't "beat out" Kenny Kelly because he was a fuggin freshman. Ryan Williams has plenty of experience and already had a whole year starting under his belt at Memphis. So no, your comparison sucks.

Gotta love how on this board you're an idiot if you say that player X, who was above player Y on the depth chart, is indeed better than player Y.

Again, your argument as to why junior Ryan Williams is better than the senior he didn't beat out was because a true freshman didn't beat out a senior 15 years ago. OK. If you think the situations are remotely comparable, you aren't very smart.

But, had Kenny Kelly put down baseball he would've been the starter and not Ken Dorsey

Based on what?

Based on Butch Davis' own words. But had been on Kenny Kelly to stop playing baseball and focus on UM football, Right after Miami got throttled at Virginia Tech, the mandate was made, he (kenny Kelly) piddled around with his decision, Butch plays Ken Dorsey, Dorsey puts up like 150 points in three games and the rest is history.

COLLEGE FOOTBALL; Miami Is Back on Top, But Without the Bluster

Kenny Kelly, the quarterback who led the Hurricanes to a stunning victory over Ohio State in the 1999 season opener, has left the program to pursue a professional baseball career with the Tampa Bay Devil Rays. But Davis was prepared for that contingency, too.

Kelly sustained knee and shoulder injuries late in the season, giving Miami a chance to groom Ken Dorsey, a 6-foot-5-inch sophomore. Dorsey completed nearly 62 percent of his passes and finished with a better quarterback efficiency rating than Kelly's.

Still think we see Olsen on Labor Day and what happens from there depends on how he does. He'll have a real short leash.

Yeah. And probably hoping your pubes will come in before the end of Summer as well.

Why do people think we would have had 10, maybe 11 wins with Duke's schedule? We weren't as good as Duke last year. They whipped us.

Because half the people posting here are either 12 years old, retarded, or a combination of the 2.

Yes because the undefeated national champions in the regular season is the same draw as a team that was winless in the ACC. Talk about retarded, holy ****.

Because we played FSU in the regular season, and they played NC State. Pretty simple.

LOL. They also beat VT--we got hammered by VT.

And they lost to Ga Tech and Pitt, who we beat. What's your point?

Fact is, we replace FSU with NC State on our schedule and we have 10 wins instead of 9. You guys have the hardest time comprehending the most simple things.

You just made it for me, nimrod. Saying we'd have "10-11" wins with another team's schedule is mealy-mouthed horse****, especially when that team that only had 10 wins with their own schedule kicked the **** out of us. Football simply doesn't work that way and it's dumb as **** to discuss.

They didn't kick the **** out of us, and We didn't even have our offense which was Duke Johnson. I have to say, I don't think you can see worse run D than that game though. Either way that has no affect on this season and Why you people are so down on this season. Yeah Duke beat us last year. You want to know what will be different this year? First, we will have our best player. Second, Their leading rusher from last year is suspended all season. Third, Connette, the qb who had 4 rushing TD's against us is gone. Fourth, Our Defense should have major improvement this year. If they can run on us like they did last year Donofrio Should be fired on the spot.

Yes they did. They put up over 500 yards and beat us by three touchdowns. Nothing you just typed has any bearing on whether Duke kicked the **** out of us. Duke Johnson being injured doesn't mean Duke didn't kick the **** out of us, and he doesn't play defense.

Bottom line is RW is the type of field manager that could help the D as well. We need ball control and a QB that can read the D and hit the open target. Best protection for our D is to limit their time on the field.
Halle-frickin-lujah!!!

It's about **** time I see someone else say this here. I was beginning to think I was somehow insane for saying something like this so many times w/o an "amen".

It can be RW, can be any of the QB's on the roster...I don't care. Whoever it ends up being--just manage the game, get the ball in the open receiver's hands (whether that's a TE/RB/WR, don't care), and keep the chains moving. If we can cut our 3-and-outs in half from last season, we're at least (IMO) in the ACCCG. Our skill position players are that good. Give it to them, let them do work. Log a bunch of TOP and minimize the time our sh1tty D is on the field.

Who knows? Maybe with less time on the field, the D might just *gasp* play halfway decent as they did in flashes last year.

The VT game was an anomaly. That game was just a cluster-fvck of epic proportions. Turnovers abound on what should have been big ST plays for us (anyone forgetting Pat O'Donnell "taking a knee" to catch a low snap?), our D couldn't tackle (nothing new), and VT was recovering forced fumbles by us for TD's (remember that ****?).

The ONE thing that could have helped in the VT game was a solid possession early in the game in the midst of all the fvckery to calm us down, and knock them off of Cloud 9. When we did, indeed, have long drives for scores earlier in the year--who did that? Was it Morris marching us down the field? Nope. The ONLY 2 times he ever did that in his career was against Maryland as a Freshman, and against GT as a Junior.

Our long drives for scores these past few years has almost always been on the back of Duke. The only times it really wasn't was during the UNC game, and that was Dallas Crawford's coming out party.

And did anyone actually watch the Duke/VT game that Duke won? That game was an absolute abomination. They were both ******* horrible, and couldn't stick their thumbs up their asses offensively. It was comical to watch.

My overall point is--if Duke doesn't go out for the year against F$U, and we have him for the rest of the season, I think we win the Coastal. Don't give me the "he doesn't play defense" bullsh1t. He may not--but he's an elite offensive player that took a whole freaking dimension of our offense away when he went out. Also--there's the intangible impact of losing a leader to tragic injury like we did Duke, and that impacts the morale of the whole team.

I'm not agreeing/disagreeing with the "if we had Duke's schedule" bit or whatever...but for folks to imply that losing Duke Johnson against F$U didn't cost us wins against the likes of VT/Duke because "he doesn't play defense" is just dumb as ****.
