Can We All Agree On One Thing?

Back on point, what I want to see most of all is progress on both sides of the ball (pressure on the coordinators) and competitiveness. I want to go into every game thinking we can win, and at some point, that we SHOULD win.

At what point do you begin to have real expectations for our staff? 8 years?

This team wasn't that bad 4 years ago... It wasnt that bad... The previous coach was expected to have double digit wins and he failed to do that and was fired... As of right now, the team was in better shape 4 years ago... This year there are no expectations... Just a bunch of excuses... The two qbs on top of our depth chart are transfers... That's a telling sign in its own right...

You're ****ting me? Tell me you actually believe what you just said. Provide some objective facts to back up what you said.

Well we were actually ranked going into the season and we were expected to accomplish something... That was the main reason why the previous coach was fired... I mean we have 2 transfers as our top 2 qbs... Harris had his worst season in 2010 but it was stil better than the season Heap had last year... Our defense is still a major question mark, outside of 2 players our wideouts is unproven as well as our oline... We are hopeful things will improve but our team is older with very little production from many of the juniors and seniors outside of Duke,DP, Chick and Howard... How is it better?

It was hopeless in 2010. We knew that Shannon wasn't the guy at that point. More importantly, other schools knew it, recruits knew it, etc. Golden started under pretty dire circumstances. The program was coming off the worst five year run in a very long time, sanctions, etc. I know people like to joke about "the cloud", but if you think that a huge part of FSU's run in recruiting classes/talent/success hasn't been fueled by Miami and uf being down, you are crazy. I would love for fsu and/or uf to be under investigation for a over two years, it's an incredible recruiting advantage in that you'll win a lot of the "toss up" players.

When comparing this year to 2014, I see 2-3 solid QB's on the roster. We'll see who emerges and if Ryan is able to come back in form. Not sure how I see having two QB transfers as a huge negative--if I was a top-notch QB in 2010-2012, not sure I would have come here either. No one is criticizing Saban on this board for likely starting a transfer at QB this year. After their run, even they were in a pickle at QB.

We have much more at WR than "two proven" players: Coley, Dorsett, Lewis, Waters, and Scott all disagree with you.

OL: Flowers, Feliciano, McDermott are proven. We'll see about Darling, Isidora, C McDermott, and Gadbois.

Yes, our defense is a huge question mark. I'm on record as saying that if we don't improve dramatically on defense, Coach D has to go, period. If Golden won't do it, the AD needs to grow a pair and force his hand.

Regarding your production of juniors/seniors comment…go down the roster, I think you'll find a few more guys that have done really well and have two more seasons to establish themselves if they haven't yet.

Sad to say, but if we don't win 9 games this year and contend for the Coastal all season, then it might be time for Al to get rid of Jethro and/or Kehoe. He's going to need to send a firm but fair message to his staff, team, and the fans if we can't meet those goals.

We are finally on par from a talent perspective with the top Coastal teams, so there's no reason we shouldn't be grinding it out with the top clubs all year.

Agreed 100%. This is put up or shut up year. No getting blown out, no more "we're young", no more excuses about guys not getting a system--"freelancing"…in fact if Coach D says that guys are "freelancing" anymore, then he just deserves to get fired. He's had the time to teach the kids about what their respective roles are…if they can't grasp it, he's had enough time to get kids that can learn it.

What are you talking about this team not having expectations??? They were picked BY THE ACC MEDIA TO WIN THE GODDAM COASTAL.
Something the team from 4 years ago that you keep saying was in better shape wasn't picked to do.

As for having to rely to on 2 QB transfers you're right it is telling.. It tells me that the previous coach did a putrid job recruiting the QB position.
Lauderdale you don slipped my man.

Shannon has nothing to do w no QB in Goldens fourth year.

As it stands, no golden recruit has started QB for miami.

Year 4 begins.

What we wish and want vs. what is realistic are two completely different things. The NCAA cloud and lack of talent from the RS era were both huge. Look at the talent we had last year on defense, and the lack of quality depth even this year. The good news is that we are trending up.

It takes longer than 3 years to completely rebuild a program. Then, when you add in the cloud on top of an already decimated roster and program that Shannon left behind, and this is the result. Al didn't take over for a guy who got a better job or moved on to the NFL. He took over for a guy who destroyed the program.

Tell USC that sanctions are no big deal, then realize that our situation was twice as bad and much longer. I know the cloud is gone and people are tired of hearing about it, but don't underestimate how bad things COULD have been. I'm tired of people saying the cloud was no big deal AND WHY HASN'T AL WON A BUNCH OF GAMES BY NOW???!!!

This fool has lost his mind... USC and PSU was in a worse predicament... How did the cloud hurt us? USC was bringing in 14-16 guys... We were bringing in 25 then adding about 3 more every June... I don't see what a cloud has to do with a terrible defense and getting out coached... We were still signing top 20 recruiting classes...

PSU yes but that wasn't even a football situation, it was so much bigger then that. I think it's funny that everyone here thinks that Al Golden is a "salesman" yet give no credit for what he did recruiting while that was going on. The easy dismissal of the cloud is due to Golden keeping **** together and being that salesman, not because the cloud was somehow less of a problem. The only thing we had on our side was that the world finally started to see the NCAA for what it really is as the investigation went on and public perception started to change. Really the only problem I have myself with golden is the GameDay issues you pointed out, but his recruiting during a time when people were talking death penalty was nothing short of astounding.

It's year 4 and its Shannon fault why we don't have a qb on our roster... Okay

We should have a 5th year SR or RS JR that Shannon recruited but we don't cause he failed at recruiting QBs.

BTW, we currently have 3 4 stars and couple of 3 star QBs on the roster. Not sure why you say we don't have any.

If these guys are crying about having no QBs on the roster now, then I'm glad they didn't become fans until 2002 because they would have had a stroke in 2000 when it was an unheralded 165 pound string bean and nothing else.

Please guy give it a rest, when AG stops making excuses and starts producing we will change our opinion towards him and his Buddy. Giving 500 yard games and turn around in the pre game interviews putting all fault on the kids is just flat out a bail out.

Your point is valid with the exception that Kenny was a 4* if I remember right.

Why does it have to be one thing or the other. It's like either Al sucks or it's all because of the cloud. The cloud has a lot to do with not having a ton of junior/senior talent. Remember the class that Randy assembled when he was fired? Oh, you don't? Right, because one barely existed. Coach D certainly appears to completely suck as a coordinator--bottom 25% in the country most likely. It's a combo of the two…not all or nothing.

I don't believe we will go undefeated in the Coastal and if we do, the losses outside the Coastal will seal the team's fate. I see us in a tie situation with us going to the ACC championship based on head to head. Va Tech is Va Tech and for some reasons Virginia kids 2-3 stars seem to rise to a level that surpasses UM's talent. I saw it in Duke last year. However, that being said...if we lose to loserville and then cannot get passed Duke, the Coastal is done. There will be no excuses. Petrino's offensive game plan and player execution will most likely be better than Coach D's and UMs player execution. Same goes with Duke's head coach, but I believe UM's talent can work through it. Now, the FSU and Va Tech games, the head to head facts over the last 5 years speak for themselves. NC is supposed to be better as well and Ga Tech is sick of losing to us. Virginia, well Virginia is Virginia and UM is UM, so for some freakin reason the game will be close. Who knows what the heck we will see on the field this year. I thought last year with Morris coming back, there was no way we would not take the Coastal. I expected Stevie Mo to break out against FSU...bottom line is I don't know s##t when it comes to how this season will play out.
