Can We All Agree On One Thing?

College football experts have gone on record and said that we could have better team then last year however worse record.

You are what your record says you are.

Not necessarily. For example, if FSU had to play in the SEC last year, I think most would agree that they would have lost 2 or 3 games. They went undefeated last year in a conference where they clearly weren't challenged. Yes they had to play their schedule, but you get the gist of what I'm saying.

Auburn managed to only lose 1 game in SEC play. Why wouldn't FSU fare the same?

Because in the SEC, they would not have run the ball as well as they did in the ACC, which means a freshman Winston would've taken some lumps (as most freshman do) at different points.

You mean like freshman Johnny Manziel took lumps?

Lulz at some of the posters already making excuses. It's the coastal. Win it or get out.

We all know Johnny Football was simply elite with his ability to make plays with his legs, and while Winston is decent with his legs, he's simply not on that level. You just can't gameplan for a QB like Manziel and that neutralized any advantages defenses may have had.

I think we all can agree on that.

I'd take Duke, Coley, Perryman and Flowers before taking the next-best player in the Coastal. We have more front-line talent than we've had in a while. Depth still isn't where it needs to be but it's good enough. This team should be expected to win the division.

You've been warned. Take notice. No attacking the team.

Show me another coach who has had to deal with as much adversity as Al has dealt with at UM who managed to win 9 games in his third season under the NCAA cloud. You can't because they don't exist. Al is doing yeoman work with this program. A lot of you fellas will be eating crow when Al resurrects this program.

I have no real idea what the record will be (I guessed 8-4) or whether or not we should win the Coastal. A lot of that depends on circumstances.

What I do have a better understanding of is that there shouldn't be any excuses to play conservative ball - especially on defense. There are seasoned veterans littered throughout the roster. Do we probably have a brand new QB? Sure. It wouldn't be the first time in college football. Whoever that may be, he'll be surrounded by a handful of future NFL players. The skill positions, assuming health, are sufficient.

Many of the most talented players on the squad are either Juniors, Seniors and a few Sophomores with a ton of experience. I can't think of a true freshman player we will absolutely depend on, which is different than past years. Players will have now been in the system, whatever that may be, for at least two seasons (on both sides of the ball) and there are highly recruited guys on defense that conference "foes" (like Maryland, Duke, Virginia, Ga. Tech, etc.) would kill to have on their roster.

Make it happen. Have these guys play at or above their collective talent level or be accountable.

The old "no excuses" thing again. When will it end. Saying that means nothing. What's going to happen is going to happen. Enjoy the show.

I can guarantee I will still be a Canes fan at the end of the season. No matter the record. That's about all I can predict.

But if Kaaya and Olsen team up and steal crab legs from the local grocery store, all bets are off. I do have my limits.

It's Miami... If you win you'll be exalted and worshipped! If you lose, you will be humiliated & flogged!

i agree but we are missing such a big part .. the QB... this is not an excuse but if we have a shaky type of QB the season can be a nightmare regardless of how all those seniors play.

Olsen is a redshirt Fr. He has been here. If he is not ready its on the coaches. If the defense doesnt do a 180 its on the coaches. But whts new....I have felt that way since the second season of Golden's tenure. Some want to give them endless leeway to failure. Records doesn't say it all. When I look at our team from last year winning 9 games was a farce. The ACC performance was as putrid as it comes. Worst than anything I witnessed under Shannon....and thats saying something. I have zero expectations. If the alumni and the admin is ok with that then we will continue being beating sticks for Duke and UL...and UVA. And btw the ones who are saying Golden is gonna turn it around. He is bolting if we have a decent season.

What I hate is the fact we could lose to UL FSU and drop one game in the coastal to VT on a Thursday night and Duke could play in the title game because they lost to us and VT but still just had 2 conf losses. Our schedule combined with Ryan Williams injury really disappoint me right out of the gate.

Exactly. The schedule is so unfair compared to Duke that it's criminal. If we beat them head to head and are only one loss behind them with our losses coming against the Atlantic top dogs, then there should be a mechanism in place allowing us to jump them.

Maybe you forget 5-7. 48-0. Freeman 1-14 vs NC State. Jacory's three first half picks in the Sun Bowl. Things were bad last season but lest we not forget how bad it can truly get.
