Aside from the 566 yards and 5 TDs..,

Anyone else feel like Morris is Kenny Kelly reborn, without the wheels though? It just ads more to my feeling of this being like the 98 team. Morris has a CANNON for an arm. Kid has the tools, but mentally he can literally drive you nuts. Kid can make some unbelievable throws down field, and then blow a 5 yard out or lateral. Same thing I remember with Kenny Kelly. He throws everything 100mph. I just hope Morris can get the mental aspect down the way KK never did.

I honestly dont know what we have with Morris here. D Money may have been sarcastic, but Im not. This kid could become one of the GOAT here, or he could end up being another Kenny Kelly. I WILL say **** if Im not rooting for the kid. I want him to succeed in the WORST way. I think he is a good, humble kid with amazing tools, if he can put it all together, he's going to be LETHAL. But man he has GOT to learn to settle down in the pocket and develop a "touch" for those short/intermediate passes.

Also, can we PLEASE FIND THIS KID A F*CKING TIGHT END to throw to?? Seriously? Walford and Cleveland were a joke today. We are SERIOUSLY hampered by not having a quality TE on this team. That is probably the ONE key missing piece that this offense lacks, that we always had back in the day. Golden needs to sign THREE stud TEs this year, that and DT. Just load up the truck with those guys. This offense, with a good TE, is going to be FIRE in the next two years.

CANE4LIFE, if you look at the numbers KK, never put up numbers like this. I think he's more like Scott Covington, rocket arm, with some limitiations in other area's, though. But as I mentioned in another thread, he's hot and cold, he is, what he is

No no no, dont get me wrong. I agree KK never put up numbers like today. I meant just in the amazing tools he has, but the mental part just hasnt come together. KK was a real tragedy, because we will never know what could have been if he had dedicated himself to football and not been splitting his time with Baseball. I also agree see some Covington in him, but man every time I see him blow a pass 100Mph over a receiver's head that is 10 yards out I think of KK. I just hope he can take it to the next level like KK never did. I really hope he can get the inconsistency better. He's the kind of QB who can shatter records and blow you away one game, and then get destroyed and shut down the next week. That is something else that worries me, as Ive always been of the opinion that COLLEGE Qbs, should be more cerebral, than physically gifted. The Steve Walsh, Ken Dorsey types, who while not blowing the world away with their arm strength, could always make the smart decisions, understand the defenses, and do what needed to be done to win the game.

If Morris can improve the mental side, I think he can be a super stud here, but he can also end up flaming out like KK or KW. Im really rooting for the kid, I just feel like he's going to give me a stroke before he's done here.

Yeah, there were a few responses disagreeing with me.

I don't know. I told a friend today: this team is young and often annoying as **** to watch, but they are ******* exciting. I like Morris. I was there today, and even though that attendance was an embarrassment, I was going wild just as often as my head was buried in my hands. He made some great throws. I just don't think the team can afford to play like they have been playing every game.

That game should have been over at half.

LOL at anyone thinks Miami is going to somehow give up less than 27 points in Chicago.

They have a shot, and I am pumped about it. I just think people need to temper their expectations... Notre Dame can expose Miami much like Kansas State did.

Morris cannot put this team on his back and win. Miami won despite some of his really bad throws and, in my opinion, horrid play calling. How does a defense get 5 turnovers and the offense gets 7 points?

The soft part of the schedule is over. ND, UNC, FSU, VT... 25-51 or whatever it was passing is not going to to do it against any of those defenses.

I think this is way over the top dude. Kid threw for 566 yards and 5 Tds, we didnt win in SPITE of him, he was a central part of it.

You DO raise a valid concern about the defenses we are going to face. The inconsistency is going to cost us, and cost us big against teams like FSU and VT, we arent going to be able to burn those defenses for as many big plays as we did today. But it is what it is. We need guys to step up. The TEs need to step up and stop F8cking around. Also need the running game to get it going. Jedd Fisch is going to make me put my foot through the TV one of these weeks. Mike James needs to be running out of the I, not dancing around in the back field. He has a very slow first step, and not great vision. You need to get him hitting the hole hard and fast, then let him do his thing. We should also try throwing to Hagens more.

The easy games are behind us now, and we did pretty **** well. 4-1 is about as good as we could have hoped for. Now its going to get really tough, before finishing off with some games we could certainly win. I expected no better than 6-6 this year, so right now, I think 7-5 is reasonable, and something I would be pleased with. I just want to see improvement. I think this team is going to be awesome in 2 years, if we can stay healthy and keep developing, that's what Im more concerned about. on Morris, the kid has all the tools, but mentally he's not there yet. He did a very good job today, but he's definitely going to be facing much tougher stuff the next few weeks.

Expose? Expose what? Everyone knows this is a VERY young team with even younger and thinner depth. NO ONE expects us to win against the Domers. Our defense has a ton of issues. But if we can contain them on the ground, and we can put some points on the board, I think we can make a game of it. KSU happened because a young team fell apart on the road, and mentally imploded. We would have probably lost that game anyway, but it should have been much closer but for a few bad breaks.

Two things:

1. This is a FAR cry from your first post and you know that as well.

2. Show me one person that thinks we let up less than 27 next week. You can't make something up out of thin air and then go on the attack about it.

...I thought Morris played a poor game.

You thought, really? He sukked, he suks, period. We had one play on O - the deep ball and even then the WRs more often than not have to come back for the ball. He is garbage.

I read that Morris has a terrible deep ball.

Nothing more frustrating than finding a play that works, and exploiting it over....and over....and over.....and over.

I definitely would have called more bubble screens instead of that 50 yard gain bull****.

His only real bad pass was a TD. He pretty much couldnt do anything wrong expect decide to throw to our stone handed TEs

He threw into double and triple coverage half a dozen times. This thread is an overreaction and there's going to be an equal, but opposite overreaction when the inevitable occurs (the bad side) with those throws.

He had a fantastic game and I'm not sure how anyone would argue that, but what concerns some people is what certain things mean going forward. I'm just happy I saw a couple glimpses of him hanging in the pocket. I thought those glimpses were MORE positive than the numbers he put up. It means more than whether he actually connects on those homeruns or not.

Pretty much my view too.

Numbers aside, he missed a ton of throws, over-threw guys, threw at guys where his target zone was tiny and his odds low, and threw into tight coverage too many times. That's the case irrespective of the yards he put up.

Saying he had a lot of yards as if that is a response to the criticism is the type of anti-intellectual stupidity that characterizes the Presidential election. Jobs are better than they were in 2009 so hey, it's working.

Morris has a ton of potential. One of the things I like is that he manages to avoid dumb interceptions and has enough oomph on it that it doesn't just float out there. But he really needs to learn to make better decisions. He throws balls in places where it's just a bad choice. He throws into coverage where he's fortunate it's not an interception. For us, and for him in the NFL, he needs to learn probabilities, not just possibilities.

Morris's potential is obvious. His next step is to get a handle on the game and really learn to control it. He needs to be in complete control of the offense and lead them to dictate to the defense. There were a few plays today that were frustrating because Morris would pre-determine his throw and miss Duke wide open in the flats, which led to some 2nd and 10s and third and tens.

Now, for Morris and the offense to really take the next step, Fisch has to improve as well. The stats are eye popping but I still think this team needs to make a bigger commitment to running the ball.

You can miss some throws when you are not taking sacks, throwing int's, and hitting deep bombs. I do wish that since our te's suck we would hit our rb's on some short stuff a little more. Swings and angles or just late release dump offs.

The play calling was fine on both sides of the ball. Morris played very well. Not his fault passes are dropped. We got a legit qb and legit coaches. This team is unbelievably young and 4-1. Only Loss is to a top 5 team. What more you want than that. Enjoy the win and performances. It's gonna be a crazy year game in and game out. Bright bright future.

Aside from the highest yardage game in the history of the conference and the program, he was off target.

/I agree

Sorry I'm with money

Poor and so was our rushing game. less than 100 yards in unacceptable flat out. Defense still is weak and Fisch is not good with play call selection. Very frustrating!

Just so you know I'm being sarcastic.

You see, D, you can't be sarcastic like others. You have that intangible. Credibility.

You're kind of like Patton. Everyone assumes you're always serious.

Truly a curse. That credibility.

He can play better and that is scary. We're probably gonna need him to. I expect this team to get better as the season progresses. This offense will be special.

Good Post.

Agree 100%

That being said. He made some throws today that were flat out just amazing.

The fade to hurns, the first bomb down the seam to Rashawn Scott, The strike to Dorsett for the second TD, Another strike down the middle to Dorsett. Perfectly thrown and timed.

And the last play is one of the absolute best plays I've seen a Cane QB make ever. Juking the defender the way he did and firing that laser.

He is the best deep thrower we've had since Testeverde.

Why he wasn't playing instead of noodle arm Harris last year is beyond me. We would have had him even more experienced for this season.

Also isn't is wonderful to see Miami with a deadly deep passing game again. Its been such a long time.

Halftime of Wisconsin game just said Morris hottest QB in cfb after QB QB. When was the last time that was said. Defense did well today. So did offense. We just need to put a whole game together. If we do we can do damage. The be game is gonna be close. We won't get blown out by anyone.
