Aside from the 566 yards and 5 TDs..,

I really don't even know what "riding with DMoney on this" means. I'm not entirely sure what D is trying to get across with the sarcasm. He threw for a lot of yards and had a fantastic game today? Yes, absolutely. Who would say otherwise? Will he struggle some going forward if he plays against other defenses the way he played against NC state today? Yes, he will. So, when he has a very bad game and throws for a **** amount of yards and multiple INTs, does that automatically make a bad QB? I don't think so, and that's my entire point here.

The sarcasm was a response to the people who called Morris garbage after his huge performance last week, only to witness an even more historic performance yesterday. I agree with you and Ethnic that he got away with some mistakes and that there will be an inevitable regression to the mean, which people will overreact to. However, his mistakes yesterday are:

1) Correctable for an obviously improving quarterback in his first year as a starter
2) Destined to happen when you throw it 50+ times. If you look at some of Dorsey's big games, you can find similar throws that he got away with. The NC State secondary is nothing if not opportunistic, so it's not like it was McNeese State out there.

The reason for the OP is that we need to step back and appreciate that this quarterback just threw for the most yards in the history of the program and the conference in a must-win, close ball game. A week after putting up 425 yards against another ACC opponent. Game-saving drives in both. Getting into the minutia of it is what this board is for, but those numbers speak for themselves, loudly.

I don't think you'd disagree that the things he has shown (mental toughness, the arm talent) are significant and unteachable. His accuracy should get more consistent as his technique gets more consistent, and his mental game is improving before our eyes. I thought his ability to step up into the pocket and scan the field (two legit areas for criticism earlier in the year) was on full display against NC State.

Surprised to see such an amateurish Grassy style post from a veteran poster.

I don't remember anyone calling him garbage after last week. After Bethune a bunch of posters did.

Many including myself said he's average even after last week. Average is far from garbage. This weeks performance was well above average. We'll see if he consistently does this from now on.

To another comment you made Dorsey did throw one or two he got away with but not as many as Morris. I never saw Dorsey miss people high, wide and late on routine plays.

The tip touchdown to Scott is a perfect example. It was a pick. He got lucky on that one. He threw two to the Tight Ends in the end zone that were unnecessarily high and it cost us with an interception and filed goal force that we missed.

Also give credit to the fact that we have an OC who's strength is setting up big plays in the passing game, what is proving to be a deep, talented & speedy WR corp, and a good offensive line who's strength is pass pro. Those things compliment Morris's strength which is his cannon arm.

I am curious to see how he will perform against a team that takes away the chunk plays and forces him to beat them with his mind, consistency, accuracy & patience.

I love Dorsey as much as anyone but people have revisionist history about him. He missed plenty of throws.

Dorsey's completion % his 3 full years as a starter: 58.4%, 57.9%, 56.5%
Morris complettion % this year: 59.9%

Now that doesn't tell the whole story but all QBs miss throws.

Morris throws nothing like Kenny Kelly. Kenny threw floaters, Morris throws bullets.

Remember how many times he would under throw Santana Moss, only to have 'Tana come back to it and make a play?

we put up 44 and should have put up at least 60. we left so many points out there. this offense gives us a chance to win any game - and its still far from clicking on all cylinders.

bingo post. inconsistent. with more games, more experience and more confidence, i believe the O will be even better at the end of the season. IMO, we might be able to win each game down the road if the O plays very well.

the last time a qb(pro or college) threw a strike like that in Carol City it was Dan Marino......Words from my dad....

Morris had an a+ game from my vantage point ...an im very critical of him having watched him play since his jr year at Miami Pace.

-TE'S..Clive Walford is really disappointing me...I mean he's a 6'5 bball player..that jumped an INCH on the int thrown....

Asante Cleveland doesnt get targeted enough to get into a rhythm ..thus drops balls when he gets them....

(I cant wait till our recruit Travis Johnson gets here...that kid can catch the **** ball)

No way that was on Walford!!! Morris was 6 yards away and threw a rocket 7' high!!! PLUS HE WAS WIDE OPEN!!!

After that throw, Morris started to play trying not to make a mistake for a while. Really good game but not great, imo.

Pretty much my view too.

Numbers aside, he missed a ton of throws, over-threw guys, threw at guys where his target zone was tiny and his odds low, and threw into tight coverage too many times. That's the case irrespective of the yards he put up.

Saying he had a lot of yards as if that is a response to the criticism is the type of anti-intellectual stupidity that characterizes the Presidential election. Jobs are better than they were in 2009 so hey, it's working.

Morris has a ton of potential. One of the things I like is that he manages to avoid dumb interceptions and has enough oomph on it that it doesn't just float out there. But he really needs to learn to make better decisions. He throws balls in places where it's just a bad choice. He throws into coverage where he's fortunate it's not an interception. For us, and for him in the NFL, he needs to learn probabilities, not just possibilities.

Aside from the highest yardage game in the history of the conference and the program, he was off target.

/I agree

Crazy thing was that he really WAS off for the two middle quarters! Imagine when he puts it all together. Its cool, he's a first year QB1, with young players around him, in only his 2nd year in this offense. He SHOULD still be developing. I am excited to watch the rest of his Cane AND NFL career.

That's right, a Cane QB in the NFL. Been a while, eh?

/yeah yeah, dorsey, barely... whatevs

Didnt read thread. Morris cant hit anything within 20 yards accurately. He throws to general areas now. His performance seems to go down after he makes a mistake. We can be a really good team if he just settles down and doesnt rifle balls to people two yards away. Also the defense needs to step up, we cant rely on outscoring people over and over. Morris is being saved by his arm strength, otherwise he's just another Jacarris.

The only thing that should save you from getting a ban after posting this drivel is your moderately funny screen name.

The answer to that is no. He won't throw for 500+ yards and 5 touchdowns consistently going forward, but Steven is a better QB than many of our fans seem to think he is. I have to admit that I would have never guessed he'd put up the kind of yards he has over the past two games against ACC opponents. He's thrown for basically 1,000 yards in two weeks. I don't think any of us expect that to continue, but I certainly like the way he is trending. I think he's an above average QB based on what he's accomplished this season. Lots to improve on for sure. The bigger concern to me is the number of yards we're giving up on defense. Eventually that's going to catch up to us, probably as earlier as this coming weekend.

Must've missed the posts in this thread about how how Morris is "god awful." http://canesinsight.com/showthread.php?30267-Stephen-Morris-s-last-drive/page2&highlight=canesbball There were other similar comments on the board after GT and after Bethune and KSU.

Looks like you think he's average. I think he will play in the NFL. Let's see who is right.
