I really don't even know what "riding with DMoney on this" means. I'm not entirely sure what D is trying to get across with the sarcasm. He threw for a lot of yards and had a fantastic game today? Yes, absolutely. Who would say otherwise? Will he struggle some going forward if he plays against other defenses the way he played against NC state today? Yes, he will. So, when he has a very bad game and throws for a **** amount of yards and multiple INTs, does that automatically make a bad QB? I don't think so, and that's my entire point here.
The sarcasm was a response to the people who called Morris garbage after his huge performance last week, only to witness an even more historic performance yesterday. I agree with you and Ethnic that he got away with some mistakes and that there will be an inevitable regression to the mean, which people will overreact to. However, his mistakes yesterday are:
1) Correctable for an obviously improving quarterback in his first year as a starter
2) Destined to happen when you throw it 50+ times. If you look at some of Dorsey's big games, you can find similar throws that he got away with. The NC State secondary is nothing if not opportunistic, so it's not like it was McNeese State out there.
The reason for the OP is that we need to step back and appreciate that this quarterback just threw for the most yards in the history of the program and the conference in a must-win, close ball game. A week after putting up 425 yards against another ACC opponent. Game-saving drives in both. Getting into the minutia of it is what this board is for, but those numbers speak for themselves, loudly.
I don't think you'd disagree that the things he has shown (mental toughness, the arm talent) are significant and unteachable. His accuracy should get more consistent as his technique gets more consistent, and his mental game is improving before our eyes. I thought his ability to step up into the pocket and scan the field (two legit areas for criticism earlier in the year) was on full display against NC State.
Surprised to see such an amateurish Grassy style post from a veteran poster.
I don't remember anyone calling him garbage after last week. After Bethune a bunch of posters did.
Many including myself said he's average even after last week. Average is far from garbage. This weeks performance was well above average. We'll see if he consistently does this from now on.
To another comment you made Dorsey did throw one or two he got away with but not as many as Morris. I never saw Dorsey miss people high, wide and late on routine plays.
The tip touchdown to Scott is a perfect example. It was a pick. He got lucky on that one. He threw two to the Tight Ends in the end zone that were unnecessarily high and it cost us with an interception and filed goal force that we missed.
Also give credit to the fact that we have an OC who's strength is setting up big plays in the passing game, what is proving to be a deep, talented & speedy WR corp, and a good offensive line who's strength is pass pro. Those things compliment Morris's strength which is his cannon arm.
I am curious to see how he will perform against a team that takes away the chunk plays and forces him to beat them with his mind, consistency, accuracy & patience.
I love Dorsey as much as anyone but people have revisionist history about him. He missed plenty of throws.
Dorsey's completion % his 3 full years as a starter: 58.4%, 57.9%, 56.5%
Morris complettion % this year: 59.9%
Now that doesn't tell the whole story but all QBs miss throws.
