From what people are saying, this is going to be a complicated Defense. So you want to make sure that as many people on that side of the ball are locked in and on the same page. Letting a safety in that already knows the system is a huge insurance policy in case something happens to Kam or in situations where he isn’t in the game.
He can also be a second set of eyes if both are on the field at the same time. It’s also good for somebody that’s very familiar with the system during practice.
So it’s not so much as saying that this dude is going to come here and take 60% of the snaps away from the other safeties as much as it is for more depth and familiarity with the system.
Who is saying it’s a complicated D lol

Taking a visit to LSU before ultimately committing to Miami would be a great way to take attention off of the apparent tampering… he’s looking around.

We need this kid. I would love to have someone who knows the system inside and out making sure everyone is lined up, making reads etc

If convinced he’s not a sure thing starter at LSU or Miami, maybe it’ll come down to his trust in how Guidry will find a way to use him.

You need to look at the back 7 as a combined arms operation.

We have either inexperienced or physically limited LBs, honestly can’t even field a 4-3 … especially if one or two are injured which has been the case for every season I can remember.

So the safeties will be called on to either come down in strong nickel / striker or provide a lot of backup like when Jenkins and Carter covered all of the 2016 freshmen linebackers’ mistakes. I would really like to see JW in that strong nickel role closer to the line and Sam as the classic cover safety, with Markeith rotating in.

Guidry will obviously mix it up. But that’s my preferred base package. JW can move back to classic safety if we go fast nickel with 3 CBs or have 3 LBs on the field. Who cares who is the “starter” they should be “or”s on the depth chart

Because Coach O is working on his O face...

The James Williams disrespect is at an all time high
Judging him on what he’s put on tape since he’s been here is disrespect? I’ll be happy to gas him up when he actually does something really good but so far he’s been very meh. He’s been bad in space. That’s just the truth. Tape doesn’t lie.

If he wasn’t a five star south Florida kid the board would view this take as a consensus.

As for Sam he’d likely start at star where couch played last year. He has no affect on JW.

Should be more in the box this year from what I’ve heard

iTS THINKING LIKE THIS THAT HAS CAUSED US TO BE SORRY AZ SH*T FOR 20 YEARS.

ITS bending the knee when nevin shapiro sh*t hit.....

You cannot be serious about college football if your really concened with ncaa and clouds...whether cirrus or cumulus...i promise you the last teams that have won MNC could give a f about the ncaa or clouds...their admins dont care either.

LOL @ Miami admins caring and being scared of public perception...while doing everything right for 15-20 years and have the whole college world think one of our benefactors is the leader of a drug cartel because we got 2 basketball transfers and a few in football in one cycle. like we cant even get a kid to commit without ppl think..."BOUGHT". When UGA and BAMA has signed astronomical classes and no one thought any of them were bought..yet we have had players off those teams infer as such and its b4 NIL.

They hate you anyway...part of the reason i didnt have Mario as my #1 choice as head coach...it was Lane Kiffin...because if your gonna be a villain regardless go full on villain.

So would we take him or not? Not talking skill, just other circumstances.

The only argument against taking him would be that he might not be good enough and Guidry will play favorites/give PT to undeserving players. If that's the case we're ****ed anyway so who cares.

But if it's not the case...even if Sam isn't good enough to play a ton, he's still an older guy presumably with a good work ethic who knows Guidry's system, which seems valuable just on its own.

James Williams is a good football player.

Unfortunately, he's kind of positionless player right now and his weaknesses get exploited a lot. His tackling is incredibly bad...all arms are attempts to hit stick (but this can be a by product of HS and college coaching...South Florida tackling is coached poorly and our tackling in-house has been coached poorly, bad tackling is a team flaw right now). His angles are like a guy that is just going out there and playing (he just runs to the football). I think he can play in the NFL because he's got talent, but like Ray Ray Armstrong or Hamsah Nasirildeen (shouts to Memnon for this comp before he stepped on the field), is really an untrained linebacker masking himself as a safety and on the field he looks like he's just going out there and playing...not presenting the game of a player that works on his craft. He hasn't gotten better at all since HS.

We could use a guy like Sam in the defensive backfield because maybe being on the field - say in a nickel role - could help a guy like James Williams know wtf is going on pre-snap and help him get into position.
