Andre Sam, Tulane nickel

He's from Louisiana. I think that's the draw.

Not a starter at LSU. Possibly not even a starter at UM. Close call for the kid to have to make.

Honestly, I think UM has a greater "need", in that our second-string safeties are probably not as good as LSU's second-string safeties.
only thing that favors us is Guidry who I would guess would love to have a guy that knows his system inside out. That also has to be a major factor for Sam as well.

Not happenin', cap'n.
James is what he is, an intriguing chess piece that has failed to live up to the hype. A guy that’s just ok in space, and someone that should be closer to the LOS at all times / asked to defend TE’s. Nothing wrong with that, but asking him to act as a traditional safety isn’t what he excels at.

Sam’s a better pure safety than can also help in the slot and knows Guidry’s defense inside and out. James would probably start, but at this point Sam is a better player and would play as such.

JMO though.

If u think he’s a starter ova JW20 den ur drunk early today
Nah, someone that led the team in missed tackles for sure doesn’t have a guaranteed starting job. Not on any planet that gives a **** about football. Not sure what games you watched last season.

He would push James for a starting spot, or act as a more pure safety while Guidry has James in the box ready to blitz or pick up guys out of the backfield.

That's my thought as well. Allow JW to play the Pat Chung role that the Pats had him doing during his second stint with the team and have Kam and Sam be our McCourty and Harmon back there.

iTS THINKING LIKE THIS THAT HAS CAUSED US TO BE SORRY AZ SH*T FOR 20 YEARS.

ITS bending the knee when nevin shapiro sh*t hit.....

You cannot be serious about college football if your really concened with ncaa and clouds...whether cirrus or cumulus...i promise you the last teams that have won MNC could give a f about the ncaa or clouds...their admins dont care either.

LOL @ Miami admins caring and being scared of public perception...while doing everything right for 15-20 years and have the whole college world think one of our benefactors is the leader of a drug cartel because we got 2 basketball transfers and a few in football in one cycle. like we cant even get a kid to commit without ppl think..."BOUGHT". When UGA and BAMA has signed astronomical classes and no one thought any of them were bought..yet we have had players off those teams infer as such and its b4 NIL.

They hate you anyway...part of the reason i didnt have Mario as my #1 choice as head coach...it was Lane Kiffin...because if your gonna be a villain regardless go full on villain.
I think eventually it was always going to fall apart with Kiffin - he'd be great in the short term, but wouldn't be able to sustain it (and he'd be looking for a route back to the NFL).

With Cristobal he's a relentless, ruthless recruiter. He's not going to openly tamper etc, but he is going to have a **** eating grin when the NIL deal drops to seal the deal on the 4/5* recruit he's gone toe-to-toe with Alabama et al for. He knows the game is dirty - he has the blueprint.

Yeah I remember you and holistic cane refusing to take any sort of negativity surrounding his borderline atrocious performances at times in 2022. The labrum injury for sure caused his mental lapses, lack of effort, and made him want to suplex people, but what do I know.

I hope he becomes an All-American. We all should. But I’m not going to blow smoke up people’s asses because I have an affinity towards the guy. Nothing he’s done in college has earned the right to be a starter here, whereas Sam has become a starter everywhere he’s transferred to. He’s shown considerable improvement at each stop up the chain, and is on top of Guidry’s defense like white on rice.

Here’s to Guidry being able to change James around and get the most out of him, because the talent is there.

I still remember that tackle he made last year when a receiver literally gave him a piggy-back ride down the sidelines... his technique was downright atrocious at times. I really hope he puts it all together this year, we need him to be a difference maker.

Doesn't matter what James has done before, when he was injured and/or covering for other guys.

It only matters what he does going forward.

And I'm fairly certain you'll see him in the starting lineup come September.

Pretty sure you’re right too.

I also don’t think it’s out of the realm of possibility that if in 2023, James starts off again by blowing assignments and tackling with his arms, then Sam would end up taking snaps relatively early on.

We can both be accurate.

From what people are saying, this is going to be a complicated Defense. So you want to make sure that as many people on that side of the ball are locked in and on the same page. Letting a safety in that already knows the system is a huge insurance policy in case something happens to Kam or in situations where he isn’t in the game.
He can also be a second set of eyes if both are on the field at the same time. It’s also good for somebody that’s very familiar with the system during practice.
So it’s not so much as saying that this dude is going to come here and take 60% of the snaps away from the other safeties as much as it is for more depth and familiarity with the system.
