Communication was so bad last year on defense. Miscommunications leading to an inordinate amount of big plays. Steeles defense was supposed to be structurally sound but what we got was bend don’t break passive defense that broke against any offense with a pulse.

At minimum Guidry is going to attack and confuse some teams. That involves exotic blitzes and moving players all over. I can’t wait to see the defense this fall. Call me crazy but I think our defense can be really good. We saw more creativity in the spring game than we did all last season smh
I’m hoping we see a bit of a middle ground between Steele (not necessarily what we did last year but Steeles track record on D) and Diaz

Not sure if that makes sense to X and O gurus but it’s the sentiment I’m getting

I'm in the opposite camp as most in the James Williams argument. Or at least I don't think it's as clear cut as most make it with "move him around" or "move him in the box"

IMO many of his struggles are because he is 6'5 and rangy as **** and it is hard for him to break down and tackle in space. I think he is actually at his best as a pure, rangy free safety that runs/hits/plays centerfield. He is sloppy with all the stuff people complain about because he is just too tall and it's tough for him in space. Let him be a CF, he has ball skills.
I believe in JW and think he’s good but tackling is a want to thing I believe this year he will break out bc Guidry will get the best out of him. Like using his arms to wrap up lol

Looking for consistent competence. No more buzzwords.

Physicality… Exotic blah blah blah…sounds good until you’re getting beaten like a drum and can’t stop anyone…

Alot of yall have went too far with james lol imma keep saying he was not near as bad as people are saying. Him and kam should be the least of our worries
idk... i hate this hype, kam has missed alout of plays but also made alot of plays... idk where the hype for james is coming but he needs to tighten up.. maybe in number 20 will change things

Its not hype at all I didn’t say he was great, he wasn’t near as good as kam(best in the country btw) but people talking as if he was terrible and that’s just far from what actually happened imo. I guess its cause of the 5 star label coming out but everyone restarts in college imo

Ok, enough dissection of JW — does anyone know the story on Sam?
He's currently at LSU and the feeling on here is he is may likely commit there.

If he leaves and remains uncommitted, there's a chance he will come here. I would not recommend holding your breath though.

You contradicted yourself. People want to move him closer to the LOS in the box to reduce the space he has to operate within. By putting him 15 yards off the ball, you’re going to expose his deficiencies with tackling/playing in space. Rarely does a CF safety stay within the hash marks. Their your last line of defense in the run game and go look at the North Carolina tape from 2 years ago and see what can happen when that safety can’t tackle or be that last line of defense.

He would be a complete disaster as a true CF safety. Ball skills or not, you would be compromising the **** out of your defense leaving him back there.

I like that LSU is on the kid. They’ve been outstanding with DBs over the years

Hopefully relationships win out here with Guidry
