All-Time Miami Hurricanes Draft - D$ selects Shakespeare/JL

I dunno how you guys are going to determine the winner. I went through every team on the list and they almost all sound unbeatable.

How f'ing weird is it that the south florida region produces more CBs than any area in the world, probably, but that's the one position (other than maybe OL) where we don't have a ton of all-stars? And even more interesting that, given that, half the teams in this competition still haven't filled their CB slots.

Not quite sure how we're going to do it either, but I think the best way is a kind of round robin type system where we put two teams against each other and vote on who'd win. shrug.

My bad, everyone. Had a really, really rough night last night. Make the pick right now.

This pick may seem like a reach right now, but it's actually a precautionary move against D$ taking him on the swing. It's one of those picks, like Larry's Jimmy Graham pick, that will likely shine 2-3 years from now and because of the NFL production. Had he been moved to Corner earlier in his career, he may have been a 1st round pick. If you want to argue/discuss the pick, please watch the video first before you bring up guys who had more traditional or productive careers as college players!

I was wondering where he was going to go. This pick is purely based on NFL potential. I don't blame you for the pick. In all honesty I would have considered it myself.

I had you pegged for this one, actually. On just that reasoning. I do think its early. He hasnt been all that good yet in the league, though i like his potential and ability. But not sure how to score a guy who wasnt good at the position at um and is yet to show he's particularly good at it in the league.

Anyhow, i was ready to make it too, just wasnt sure when, and fogured someone would go there first.

That's the strange thing about the draft. Are we picking college players? That's easy to do based on their college careers. Are we picking based on physical talent and pro potential? Then Jimmy Graham should have gone several rounds ago.

My team's kind of an amalgam of both but I'm questioning whether it would have been better to go all-in either way.

I'm fine with the ambiguity where a guy's proved out in the pros, like graham or wilfork. Its just harder where he's never proved it yet. Not sure there is anyone other than shields truly in that category here, however....

I hate to make reactionary picks based on what other people in front of me have done, but unfortunately Larry has forced my hand here. The punter position has slim pickings, so I'm going with a fan favorite over the last couple years.

He averaged 42.7 yards per punt in a blossoming start to his NFL career, where he earned the starting punter gig as a rookie. He came in as a place kicker but due to necessity actually handled BOTH kicker and punter duties. He made All-ACC first team as a kicker in 09 and a punter in 2010, which is pretty impressive considering the distinct skill sets one needs for each of those positions. He can play either or for me, and frankly I don't care. ****, I'd even rather not select another specialist, because I feel this guy qualifies for both. And frankly, I could stick myself in at kicker and ride the pine while he handles both duties. This guy was so good he made All-ACC TWICE IN ONE YEAR (first team as a kicker in 09, second team as a punter). Three time All-ACC selection and 2008 team MVP. Averaged 44 yards per punt as a senior and actually hit 14 field goals in a row at one point.

And he could tackle the **** out of you. I don't know how many TD's he saved during his career here, but it was plenty.

How many kickers you know have their own highlight reel on youtube? And with tackling highlights lol.

I don't think you can draft an entire team using just one criteria. Everyone's team at this point is a hybrid and they've justified picks in their own way. That's what I like about this draft.

I asked the question on the first page before the draft. It was left vague and up to interpretation, so what I've done is pick balance throughout. Almost every pick I've made has taken a college/NFL production balance into consideration.

This pick was out of that norm, but it was easier to make because of the dearth of Corners/DBs.

Tano, you cannot take yourself until its your turn. I reserve the right to draft you first, just to make yo *** run gassers.

You know I had my eye on him. His pure cover talent is up there with anybody to ever come through the school. Like Swag said, it's a weirdly thin position and he is truly gifted.

After you guys were done drafting I thought about putting together a free agent team, and Sam Shields would've been my first corner. Nice pickup, Lu.
