OU was an embarrassment in the SEC. They joined with their rival who went to the conference championship game and they fell on their face going 6-6 only winning 2 conference games.

This should truly be highlighted.

Texas --------> SEC Championship Game
Oklahoma ---> 6-6

If we get him they will say 50 million.

I know coaches are some of the sleaziest people in the game but what is their pitch right now to him?

1. Hey, remember these two guys?
2. Mama is just 2.5 hours away.
3. We used to be good.
4. It just means more, or so we have been told.
5. We've been telling all our friends this is a done-deal, so...PLEASE?

Dude def has his school ID and room key already 😂😂

Yes. He is in the school directory, the spring semester classes have been registered, and the Heisman Winner statue is halfway carved (upper body, they wanted to be sure to get an accurate measurement of his junk on the official visit).

He's been in class already AND has female students already in his phone! Dude lives life on warp speed.

Not to break up the fun, but why are we crapping on the WRs OU is courting while celebrating getting a commitment from a Jacksonville State player?

Because Mateer will not have to throw passes to a safety.

This isn't complicated.

I get that. But we’re celebrating getting a very productive G5 player, while simultaneously laughing at another school for likely hyping/selling the potential of landing productive G5 players.

Tis true. I’m not sure who else is in the running for these WRs OU is targeting.

I listed all the guys they are currently recruiting a few pages ago, and provided their profiles and stats.

Could Oklahoma get some fantastic WRs in the spring portal? Sure, I guess.

I'm just pointing out the contrast between the two recruiting efforts. Even if one wants to argue that "Horton and Brown are gone, therefore we are even on returning WRs", there is still a talent differential between the portal WRs Miami is currently recruiting vs. the ones Oklahoma is currently recruiting.

There is also the pressure of following behind Cam’s amazing season.

He won’t have that pressure in OU and he gets to “write his own story” instead of constantly being mentioned as the guy who followed Ward.

OU was **** last year. Played two diff QBs. There is no pressure there. The offensive supporting cast is not good and that line is bad so we have that in our favor.
imo pressure for him is how the heck to grow your draft stock at OU.

Again, that is not what is going on. You are just digging your heels on "being dopey".

We got ONE guy so far. Part of the reason that Miami fans are "celebrating" is because we FINALLY got someone. And he also will play in tandem with a kid who just made freshman All-American.

As for Oklahoma, the rationale is a bit more complicated, so try to keep up. Oklahoma is trying to recruit the LEGIT top QB in the Portal...AFTER losing a handful of GOOD WRs to the Portal...while simultaneously trying to ADD a bunch of G5 portal WRs who are seemingly not in high demand...and their admitted "top target" at TE has fewer catches than old man McCormick.

If you understand, nod your head and stop posting.

Pressure:

1. Turning around a 6-6 team when many of the best players on offense have entered the Portal.
2. Saving a hot-seat coach who just scapegoated a bunch of his assistants.
3. Playing a brutal SEC-SEC-SEC schedule.

To be fair we’ve had two of the top portal WR’s on campus, seemingly waiting to see what we do at QB (Rivers, Daniels)
And if we are being really detailed..is it safe to say Mendoza is waiting to see what Mateer does too? Whoever Mateer doesnt choose..you would think Mendoza will have all the leverage on now because either us or OU will be pretty desperate.

A key reason i dnt think anyone has mentioned that he’d be better off at Miami is his Brand Marketability. Not just cuz of the flash of miami, but because he coming in right after Cam. Everyone will be talking about him. Everyone will be talking about of #1 offense. Everyone will be comparing him to cam. So his brand will be out there constantly. Up to him to seize it.

At OU. Imo will barely be talked about. Theres no story.
Exactly. The spotlight, and thus the opportunity for additional NIL deals will be much higher in Miami because of the location and the Cam Ward connection. It would almost certainly end up exceeding any difference in initial NIL that Oklahoma offers

I am all for getting the best player for a key position. I happen to think we can win with Emory Williams (With a defense that can at least hold opponents under 35 points). What is baffling to me is why hasn't Emory walked in to the coaches office and said he was transferring out? If we sign Mateer, then we sign him. Hopefully its all good. Win with whomever. But with Emory at the helm, we did beat Clemson at Clemson. Should have beaten the "Vaunted" Seminoles (At That Time).

It just seems like a slap in the face. A vote of no confidence. This kid played hard for us and won over his team mates. It's understandable to bring in Cam Ward. But now you are bringing in another front line guy (so you think). As a organization, we have drastically f****d up QB recruiting. How does a top flight QB in high school look at us now knowing that each year, you are going to look at others.

If we are a trenches type team, then so be it. Win with great running backs and great offensive lines. Recruit heavily in those areas. Because the REALLY good QB prospects are going to look the other way when Miami offers.
