im assuming the collective tells mario we have x to spend this year on a roster and you gotta make it work. we take your recs on how much a player is worth in the market and well send the offer, but you dont get a dollar more.
Just because there isn’t a salary cap doesn’t mean there isn’t a budget.
Best we can hope for is Mateer and then get a respectable defense. Mateer isn’t Cam (in my opinion people probably don’t want to hear that) and we lose a ton of production so we need the defense to get a lot better AND get Mateer if we want to make a playoff run

This is exactly what I’m talking about, fans that can’t see that Mendoza is a drastic grade over Emory, I questioned their ability to watch film or even the game. Mendoza is 10 times the quarterback Emery is and those are facts. Regardless of how much heart and passion Emery has, his arm strength sucks and that’s not gonna change. Fans need to let it go with him.
If we want to be stuck in mediocrity you’re right but trust me that budget will increase every day until teams commited to winning big reach the top of the mountain.
As bad as our secondary was, We all know it wasn't only MAJOR problem. Our pass rush didn't get home and our LBs were average at best. In order to win with Emory we are going to need an elite (Omarion Hampton/Caleb Johnson esque) RB. If Jordan Lyle takes a huge step I could see it happening, but if we don't have a 8.0 - 9.0 YPC, 110-150, 1.5 2TD per game back coupled with elite defense we aren't winning 10, 11, 12 games next year with Emory.

i dont see the defense instantly turning over into elite or even a true top 10-15 with the current holes. we have been getting shunned by the top guys entering the portal so far. maybe the kentucky DT signs wiht us but never a good sign when we cant get a commitment on the spot while other spots are doing so.
that’s not what I am trying to get at. It’s not about proving anything. If guys are picking places, there is some reason they are choosing them. Be it money, conference, atmosphere. We hear a lot about we (UM) need to prove it on the field or see what player comes in ahead of them. These are just excuses to exclude us. A recruit isn’t going to come out and say they didn’t like coral gables, Mario’s loafers smelled or our offer wasn’t enough. We think we have the best to offer (location, lifestyle, money), but based on this years HS class and as of today in the portal it’s not the case.
I get the attraction to OU with the OC and close to home. That being said they are a dumpster fire on O especially their line. Dude is gonna get hurt there fast.
Yeah tough to say now with so much up in the air but if we only got 10 with Cam it’s hard to just put blind faith that we get this all figured out with a tougher schedule

we got cam ward by proving absolutely nothing on the field.
I still think some people are going to be surprised with what Ward does in the NFL.

You have a chance with Mendoza and I put that at 10-15%.
With Emory, IMO, he has a 5% chance at best to get us to 10 wins, even with a good defense.

We are about to lose all of our WR production and we “only” have to replace our entire secondary + add a DT and LB if we want to make our defense just respectable. Ward was worth at least 3 games this year himself. We lose him + everything t above = a .500 season. Mario can recruit individual players but his roster building is showing itself 4 years in
