we are about to be the **** around, find out crew on QB recruiting. There aren’t enough good players in the portal on defense to transform that unit to the point where we can “run the ball and play defense.” Emory will not help us attract that level of player anyway. This is why you can’t build a room around development arms and just go big game QB hunting. It worked this year but as we’ve seen with FSU, all it takes is one tough portal cycle. Start Nickel. This is shaping up to be a brutal roster in year 4

There are absolutely enough players in the portal for us, in the ACC, to rebuild the defense and make that the strength of the team next year along with our running game. We have pieces along our front 7.

LB: Daniels, Gbayor, Manu
CB: Taco Davis, Delane, Calhoun, Strader, Brantley, O'Connor, Braxton
S: Thieneman, Poyser, Stroman, Heard

Multiple guys at every position of need that we have that would be almost assuredly better than what we had last year. If we end up with a bad defense again next year, the blame is soley on Mario Cristobal and his ability to close on guys. There are tons of pieces of available and whether it is due to not being proactive enough or not selling the program well enough, we are doing a very poor job in the portal compared to other schools at the moment. It seems like yearly we see kids enter and commit to schools within a couple of days and it never seems to happen for us. We are always reactive to the market and putting ourselves behind the 8 ball. I'm fully aware that it is still early in the window and yes I know how last year turned out but it does not change the fact that we are making this unnecessarily hard on ourselves in the portal when it does not need to be.


It also did not need to be Mateer or bust at QB. Miller Moss, Jackson Arnold, Darian Mensah, and Connor Weigman all could have succeeded in this system and given us a higher floor than Emory IMO. I get big game hunting, but unless you have some kind of assurance from someone before they enter, you cannot let one kid dictate your entire portal approach. Last year it worked. What if it doesn't this year?

This year Lane did less with more than we did. Had a playoff birth set and blew it against UF who we beat. We had a top offense in 2023 with a QB seeing ghosts and the number 1 offense this year. How many years does it take when we live in a recency bias world. Only at Miami.

No moping at all, I know what Mario can do and if there is one person in the CFB world that can pull this off is him.

I'm not saying those are the plans but $3mil is $3mil. There's a budget and it's not unlimited..prices keep going up and I doubt our fund is growing at the same rate the players prices are.

If your choices are $3mil on a QB and the other QB costs $1mil then by getting the $1mil QB you have another $2mil to spend on the rest of the roster.

If those are my only two options, I’d choose the later because the way you are presenting it is Mateer with no new weapons and a bad defense.

Why is the phrase “there is a budget” used so often? There really isn’t. There is no salary cap. Teams across the country are playing the game with no budget restrictions if it means going all in and winning.
