Mateer may be more valuable at the college level. Cam will have a better NFL career, but Mateer’s ability and play style can single handedly carry teams to wins. We saw it this year at Wazzu. He can be a one man offense, but you give him this offensive line, running backs, and real receivers and I really think we could be looking at Jayden Daniels numbers.

Imagine the cool **** Dawson could draw up with Mateer as a running threat with the 2-back sets we used this year

Yes he does. Supply/demand. He is clearly the best qb who is/will be available. Could argue that Ward was the best last offseason but #2-5 were not that far of a drop off. If UM gets Gabriel instead of Ward, we probably win 8 or 9. I think Mateer is clearly the top QB by a wide, wide margin.

A poster on their 247 board said it took them a long time to come up with the funds for Mateer, so they might have made an exception for him lol

But seems like they FSU broke/cheap
 
I just refuse to believe any of these large state schools that are also historic programs with massive fanbases have trouble coming up with money. Every bit of that feels like a hedge in case guys just don’t want to be there.

For those who are following this, with the dominos falling at QB what is our plan if Mateer stays WSU or goes to OU?

Who else is out there who hasn’t entered the portal realistically? We don’t seem to be in on Mendoza Salter so I guess Maalik Murphy? I don’t think that’s the answer whatsoever either.

Same path with Mateer as with Cam. Mario must get his man. Period.

I think more QBs will jump in the portal later in the window. Won't be as good as Mateer but better than Mendoza/Arnold/Mensah & Co. If Mensah and Mendoza are really getting $1m+ it would behoove guys like Hoover & Robertson to test the waters at least.
 
I posted earlier that the smart business decision points to Miami. But, I have a strange feeling he has been committed to OU for quite some time now.

Can we overcome that initial commitment? I sure hope so.

It's a great question. Last year, we were THIS close to starting spring ball with Emory and Reese. Who knows what would have happened this year. I assumed they had a backup plan last year but they were cutting it real close with losing out on everyone.

This year, I'm hoping they have a backup plan. The good thing is that Mateer will decide very shortly rather than have us wait until January.

It would look identical to the offense this year and last year strangely enough...
