All in on Mateer (Boomed and Sooned)

Valid but it all comes down to a brain decision or a heart (closer to home, former OC, maybe and Oklahoma can growing up) decision

My sense is that his connection with the former OC - Arbuckle - is a bit overstated. Wazzou fans aren't HUGE fans of the guy and the real guy behind all this is Eric Morris. He was Mateer's OC for one year, and he brought Cam and Mateer from Texas to WSU. Arbuckle has been riding coattails his whole career - Morris, Kittley, et al.

Connection with Morris/Ward, Miami NIL, Cam 2024 season, great OL, etc should make this a no brainer.

There’s no 5 day window unless you’re in the playoff I’m pretty sure
You have 5 days after your last game so it depends on when their bowl game is - its moot for some people because their game is 5 days or more before he portal end date

I agree with you. When it comes to the geography, I think it also depends on whether he is trying to play one more season or two.

Because unless he has a family illness or a newborn kid, at some point these players have to project what life will be like in the NFL. Which means they will have no control over where they are drafted, and they are likely to be in a huge (new & unfamiliar) city very unlike the rural places they may have grown up (or the rural college campuses on which they have lived).

If Mateer thinks he can pull a Cam and play his way into the first round, he needs to come to Miami. If he needs his mom to do his laundry like Jeff George's mom did, then he should go to Oklahoma.

I hope Mateer is getting good advice, because going to OU is failure waiting to happen. They’re barren, and their targets for the portal are not on the same level as what we’re going after

The highlighted are either in the portal or out of eligibility. I can’t imagine walking into this in a year you’re trying to up your draft stock when the offensive line also sucks.

Man this kid would be next level dumb to go to Oklahoma. Even if he entered it will not just be Miami and Oklahoma. Other teams would get involved throwing money around.

He will take 20 hits a game playing for them running around like crazy trying to find a receiver

Venables is also another bad season away from being fired. Mario will be here the next few years no matter what. I get the attraction to OU from a macro level - SEC, great fans, great alumni base (all advantages over Miami at this point). But on a micro level - OU is a disaster... coach might be fired after another bad year, horrible offensive line, no weapons, and most importantly not setting himself up to be a high draft pick.

My only question for this argument is would you do the same for what Miami has returning?

I know we’re assuming Brown and Martinez leave. I’m not convinced that would be the best move for either but we’ll see.

But as mentioned in my other comment, Isaiah Horton by himself makes up roughly 75% of Oklahoma’s returning production. And the offensive line discrepancy Is basically as large as possible.
