247 Responds to Rankings Fiasco

This goes back to what I wrote last week.
The people at these recruting sites do not know what they are doing. They rely on schools recruting a player to then know how to rank the player. More schools recruting a player means he must be good. And if school A, B or C is recruting him, he must be a 4 star at worst and probably needs consideration for a 5th star.
All of this only speaks to the complete incompetence of the evaluators. And our complete stupidity for caring.
Unless we are under the impression or expectation that a recruiting site is going to secure better talent evaluators than college programs, this is probably how they should be ranking them frankly. Trust the guys that do this for a living in a billion dollar business, and if a kid has offers from perennial playoff/conference championship staffs I’ll take their word for it, personally. We have a lot of games to win and all American honors/national awards/draft picks to earn before Miami offers get that kind of respect - which I expect to happen sooner than later with this staff

This dude worded the transferring situation poorly - they were saying they realized they were missing the On3 ranking when they went to update what school he attends.

I think it’s an honest mistake on 247’s part - the real issue is using On3’s rankings to begin with.

According to Andrew Ferrelli our top 5 commits average out to 53rd on 247 but 108th on On3…

Bingo. On3 is the real problem, not 247. I have zero idea where these recruiting rankings r coming from on their end.

I listened to Pate's explanation. I like the guy. His rationale is mostly sound. BUUUUT... There's a serious flaw with his argument.

He talks about the Miami media market as part of the reason 247 wouldn't want to drop Miami recruits. The problem is that CBS, who owns 247sports, DOES NOT broadcast ACC games on cable, streaming, online, or on any of its affiliate stations. Not a single game. The network each game is being broadcast on is available on CBSsports website, for the first 3 weeks of the season.

They have NO financial interest in the Miami media market, when it comes to college football.

But U know what CBS DOES have a financial interest in? The SEC game of the week that they promote non god **** stop.

So even though I like Pate, he is leaving out a very important piece of the argument.

CBS doesn’t have the SEC anymore. Moved to ESPN

the part that doesn't make sense is, 24/7 states that it was an error with their system. Ok, well if you go back to the commitment video, the graphic created under Jayden has something to the effect of him being a 4-star, yet the 24/7 twitter graphic that went out was showing a 5-star. So how can you say that the change occurred AFTER he committed, when the person making the graphic DURING his commitment has him as a 4-star already.

to prove the point further, google "24/7 Jayden Wayne commitment" and see what some of the links say - "watch 4-star make his commitment". But, I thought 24/7 said the error was found after?

NO. NOT. LISTEN. TO. A. THING. THEY. SAY.

It’s complete bull****. They have a ton of reasons to promote a specific class of school at the expense of others. They have already admitted that the committee school is a factor in the ranking. They have not mentioned ANYTHING about the value of said factor. This means it can be anything they want it to be.

We already saw they don’t have policies and procedures when adjusting rankings based on the Wayne situation. Any ******* at 247 can do whatever they want to the rankings. Either that or they are brain dead over there.

247 pays Pate’s checks and he will never bite the hand that feeds him. He is an SEC cuck deep down. Don’t let the facade fool you. He’s a walking propaganda machine.

he was a 4 star on 247 sports. he still is. that didn't change. he was a composite five star. that changed when they added the on3 ranking in bc on3 has him so low

I get that, I'm saying the timing of which doesn't make sense. I should've clarified 24/7 composite v 24/7 (general rankings).
the timing was awful. even lake admitted that and was ****ed about it bc he said they could've just done it during their Wednesday drop and offered that to them so they can prep their subs

Something to ponder…

What if ON3 is right? Where is 247 getting their rankings from? Point is none of these sites are right. No way these people are watching games of all these players. These sites are eating from the same trough.

You must not listen to him very much. He’s been on the OBB twice and talks just as much about the Canes as much as he does the Bible Belt.

People are always in his comments asking to stop talking about the Canes. He also attended Iowa State.

He also prefaced that he has no attachment to 247’s process and has called them out before when needed.

Now whether you choose to believe him or not is your choice. My opinion, knowing how impartial I view him to be, is that he is being truthful.

And if you still choose to be angry and nothing can change your mind, I’d encourage you to drop the microscope and step back to see that this is a very small issue that affects maybe 1% of us here.

In looking at Jayden’s ranking he was given a June 22 bump of .0041 that made him a 5 star…..when they made the adjustment that same .0041 was taken back which made him a 4 star again…

Where did this .0041 come from on June 22 and why was the adjustment that was supposedly forgotten exactly the same .0041

This is what confuses me and makes this suspect.Ok you forgot the ON3 evaluation but when it was added it adjusted exactly what his bump was on June 22?

Can someone explain this to me???

Don’t know the answer but you would have to check the ranking updates of the other sites. Any time Rivals, 247, ESPN or On3 changing their rankings, the composite would change. Maybe the date he went up .0041 was a date he announced he was transferring and On3’s score was not applied. Then yesterday it went down .0041 when On3 was added back in.

Just seems reeeaaal strange that the adjustment was exactly 0.0041..

He fails to understand that recruiting website success has nothing to do with media size, it's completely about large state rah rah school (aka SEC) subscription bases. He really screwed the pooch there.
