247 Responds to Rankings Fiasco

Exactly, bro. At the end of the day Jayden is a 5 star kid & we got a great player, but I’m not adding On3 ratings/rankings along w/ other established sites that’s been in the game for 10+ yrs. It’s clear their mechanisms r all over the place.
Someone brought up an interesting point about 247 adding them so people wouldn’t need to go visit On3 for that reason. So rather than keep the divide with a new service they absorbed them in a way so people wouldn’t need to go there

No idea if that’s accurate in any way but I thought it was an interesting observation

On3 released their own composite called consensus that included 247. 247’s composite without On3 would then not be as complete. On3 forced their hand here. 247’s composite basically neutralized ESPN and Rivals’ ranking. Most people that follow recruiting stopped looking at individual sites and just looked at the composite.

Gotcha! Thanks for that

I just stick around here so I’m out of the loop

The point is the networks use the same formula, from basically the same people. They aren’t scouts nor talent evaluator’s. You are giving 24/7 a pass when they shouldn’t be given one. None of the sites should be given a pass. Kids, parents, and coaches are affected by these amateur scouts.

Go back and watch the video I posted with coach Hayes breaking it down. I’ve also seen a interview with Brandon Meriweather where he had the same issues with the whole process with regards to star rankings.

The websites do NOT "use the same formula, from basically the same people", unless you are wasting our time talking about Composite scores. Because if it's Composite, yes, they add up the 4 scores and divide by 4.

And you have no idea what I'm doing or who I'm giving a pass too. If you bothered to read anyone's posts besides your own, you would see that I have already documented that the 247 stand-alone rating has departed from its own stated methodology (they claim to give 32 5-star ratings, but they have only given FOUR this cycle). As for Wayne SPECIFICALLY, the issue with 247 Composite was a one-time problem, while the issue with on3 is an ongoing problem.

Again, lots of people fail to differentiate between the 247 and on3 STAND-ALONE ratings and the COMPOSITE ratings. I'm not saying you are doing that, but many people do.

I don't give a ****e about "as complete". I care about accurate and reliable.

on3 does not yet have nationwide coverage. It is currently an unavoidably biased and incomplete system, because the vast majority of their writers and evaluators cover the SEC schools, and a few Big 10 schools.

on3 should not be included in ANY composite until they have a fully-built nationwide system. If they want to include THEMSELVES in their own "composite", nobody can stop them. But it's garbage.

it doenst matter who founded on3 or what system they use. its obvious their formula is flawed in ranking players bc their rankings are a huge outlier to rivals, ESPN, 247. usually, you find some common consistency between the services. if you dont, its useless and should do away with the composite scores altogether

It’s the nature of the beast now and we ourselves helped it get there. In the end what happened here was an unfortunate mistake that frankly has been great for us. It has just brought more attention to the Miami brand. In the meantime, the significance of the drop was Wayne lost his 5th star but dude didn’t plummet down the rankings. He is still the 40th ranked player in the nation. Now in terms of the rankings fvckin with Miami. I think a strong argument can be made that they overate our players. Sure there are always individual rankings we may look at and scuff at but overall go through class by class and pick out where they really screwed us? They help us more often than not.
We over rate our players more than they do. 247 Is littered with overrated and underrated players.
They’re not helping anymore e except the frontrunners.

The guy who co-founded rivals AND founded 247 started on3 🤷🏼‍♂️

not saying their ratings are good but it’s not like nystateofmind started it

Valid points, but I am less worried about who founded it and more concerned with whether the entire nation is adquately covered thus far (it is not).

And I would be frightened to see the NYSOM Top 250. He'd probably think it's a list of 250 tops, and then he'd make Kenneth compile the list of 250 bottoms...

First You missed the point completely. I don’t care about composites. I’m worried about who is in charge of ranking these kids. What credentials do they have?

Let me ask you something…Why is Arch Manning rated #1 in the nation regardless of position? Why was our own Emory Williams a 0 star until 24/7 noticed that Miami was in contact with him?

You decided to jump into another persons conversation that was specifically tagged for that person and then try to pick a fight. FOH..

On3 is playing with these kids potential NIL earnings as well as hurting recruiting. If they knew what they were talking about regarding scouting and their rankings being that drastically different, then a college coach would already have their scouts on staff. They aren’t seeing anything the other services aren’t seeing, they’re just pandering to the fanbases that visit their site the most.

Somehow On3s and 247s composite rankings are slightly different.

They might put different weight on certain websites?
They might put there at 30 and let the other take the other 70% as opposed to each getting a quarter? Just spit balling.

Correct. 247 puts more weight on their rankings although I’m not sure how much and On3 evenly allocates the weight.
