247 Responds to Rankings Fiasco

Unless we are under the impression or expectation that a recruiting site is going to secure better talent evaluators than college programs, this is probably how they should be ranking them frankly. Trust the guys that do this for a living in a billion dollar business, and if a kid has offers from perennial playoff/conference championship staffs I’ll take their word for it, personally. We have a lot of games to win and all American honors/national awards/draft picks to earn before Miami offers get that kind of respect - which I expect to happen sooner than later with this staff
Agreed. So why do we get caught up in something so irrelevant as amateurs telling us the value if high school football players that they have never seen play?
Shouldn’t we also just trust the experts that UM hired?

it's not an awful way to rank players to be honest. I mean to you really think these sites employ enough talent evaluators to rank hundreds of players?
This is what I would do if I was a site, but then how do I have the ability to change his ranking if nothing happened?
When Jayden Wayne selected UM he did not improve as a player nor did he become worse by virtue of an announcement. So an announcement should do nothing to impact a ranking.
But you see rankings have to change periodically for a site to to remain in our consciousness. I would just ask them to pretend to be professionals and only change the rankings after something happens on the field, or even at a camp, as opposed to an announcement which by itself can not change a ranking if there is any logic to this stupid system.

Siiiiiigh, it’s like I said in the other thread; ur beef is not w/ 247, ur beef should be w/ On3 that have been completely biased w/ their rankings. On3 is now being included in the composite score, recently. Yes, the timing of it is all wrong, but regardless now that On3 is being included, their ratings r off af when it comes to our recruits & the timing of their stories regarding committed players seems fishy af.

Now, I know one of their analyst/commentators post on here, but the fact is, something seems personal w/ how they view recruits heavily interested in us.

If 247 was smart, they would publicly remove on3 from their composite, and say that they will put on3 back in the composite when the on3 ranking system proves to be reliable and accurate.

EDIT: sorry I was late, saw some other people suggest this too.

There’s more to it these days. If these ranking systems play any role in NIL then it matters. Also, how many times have we seen these South Florida 5* chase other 5* to other schools? They might not matter to us, but it matters to these HS recruits.

Something to ponder…

What if ON3 is right? Where is 247 getting their rankings from? Point is none of these sites are right. No way these people are watching games of all these players. These sites are eating from the same trough.

Brother, that’s a separate discussion; the issue on this board is “why did “247” drop their composite rating on Jayden Wayne from a 5* to a 4*? The reason y his composite rating dropped was b/c On3 was included, and they’ve just been added as a composite contributor.

That’s all.

I wouldn’t even consider them b/c they are so new.

I fail to see how a composite rating formula is being improved by adding on3 at this stage.

I also wouldn't add it until I had at least some idea of what on3's rating mechanism is (I suspect it is highly suspect at this stage).

Regardless, I don't care. We got a good player, and our fans stuck up for him on the internet.

These rankings MAKE A HUGE DIFFERENCE.

When playoff teams are announced, there's ALWAYS someone making the argument for "the most talented team" even when that (SEC) team has a loss. What makes that team the most talented? Is it their blue chip ratio? Their ridiculous number of 5*? Because guess who determines BOTH their number of blue chip players and 5*. Recruiting rankings like the 247 composite.

Look at some of the most disproportionately overrated recruits on the on3 website. Guys who have a MUCH higher rating with on3 than the consensus of the other sites (meaning the on3 is not only higher, but it also causes the consensus to increase, and the consensus would be lower if not for on3's overly high rating):

on3

11. Jven Williams, PED STATE commit (65 consensus)
20. Adepoju Adebawore, heavy OKLAHOMA lean (72 consensus)
28. Markis Deal, heavy TEXAS lean (88 consensus)
29. Darron Reed, LSU commit (170 consensus)
24. Joshua Mickens, LSU commit (118 consensus)
39. Daniel Harris, GEORGIA commit (139 consensus)
48. Eugene Wilson, FLORIDA commit (147 consensus)
49. TJ Searcy, FLORIDA commit (153 consensus)
50. Aidan Mizell, heavy FLORIDA lean (106 consensus)
54. Derion Gullette, heavy TEXAS lean (122 consensus)
55. Tyler Williams, heavy GEORGIA lean (127 consensus)
58. Dashawn Womack, LSU commit (112 consensus)
60. Yhonzae Pierre, ALABAMA commit (165 consensus)
64. Roderick Kearney, F$U commit (116 consensus)
70. S'Maje Burrell, TEXAS commit (232 consensus)
76. Kayin Lee, OHIO TAINT commit (166 consensus)

And don't even get me started on Nathan Efobi, the #84 on3 player who is #560 in the composite

So I just pulled out 16 guys from the Top 76 players who had on3 "over-ratings" of 50 spots or more when compared to the COMPOSITE of on3, Rivals, 247, and ESPN. This means the differential would be even greater if you pulled on3 OUT OF the consensus.

That means roughly 20% of the Top 75 recruits (per on3) are GREATLY overrated compared to the other three services. And these are "Top 75" type kids, usually any and all ratings services can recognize the best of the best. I'm not expecting the rankings to be identical, but you would at least not expect to see wild discrepancies for the best-of-the-best players.

And look where these kids are going. Lots of Texas and Florida and LSU in there. And, sure, one could argue "yeah, but those schools always get good players", which is not completely true (certainly not that true of Florida). But what we DO know is that the SEC fanbases are loudmouths who demand ratings bumps for all their recruits. Florida fans in particular tend to harass the website writers to give their recruits bumps, and act as if their subscriber base justifies better coverage for "their" recruits. And we also know that as on3 got off the ground, most of the staffed websites and writers were in SEC and Big 10 markets.

I hope that on3 gets better in its evaluations soon, because if on3 is going to be a part of the "consensus" rankings, then they need to try harder not to be a statistical outlier with so many recruits.

I keep explaining to you privileged ruling members and supporters that being fans of The U would expose you the kinds of actions, when not major may seem minor or even juvenile, but nonetheless creates an impact or simple frustrations. In my America, this is everyday life, something you never experience or encounter in your everyday lives. The big "legislation" will be our Conference issues. Hope all ends better than it did in 2020.
Billy Dee, who dropped your ranking by a star?

Bring me their name amd they shall pay!

You are a CIS 5* baby!

That’s not the only thing that’s being discussed here. People are saying that 24/7 should drop ON3 and they are the problem. I’m pointing out that ON3, Rivals, 24/7 are founded by the same person. LCE tried to explain this month’s ago.

I don’t get it. They some times say 5 star player and then say 4 start player committed. Like wtf, you pick and choose whether they wanna use 247 ranking or the composite ranking.
