This wasn’t an undefeated team

Yep, I’m not even mad about the loss itself, great teams drop a game now and then, and only a rare few make it through a season undefeated.

But this loss? It was just flat-out embarrassing. The reason I feel this way boils down to pride and ego. Losing a hard-fought battle is one thing, but getting disrespected and not even putting up a fight? That stings. That’s exactly what happened to us on Saturday.

Georgia Tech literally ran the ball right down our throats, play after play. They lined up, telegraphed exactly what they were going to do, and we still had no answer. Our defense got their pride taken from them, and it was like watching us just take it without a response.
Word for word what i felt as well and what i told friends. Losing doesn’t bother me nearly as much as how we lost. Anyone with sense knew this team was walking a razor and wasn’t the number four team in the country. That’s why I kept saying I’m not angry when the polls had us lower than fan’s thought. We haven’t played like a top five team. Maybe this loss wakes them up and adjustments are made , that’s all we can hope for.

So the best player in the country refused to take check downs that would help his team win a game? He’s the one guy who has the most control or impact on everything and we need him to make those plays. If not now, when?

That’s a good formula for success.
Yeah his draft stock took a hit today.

At this point, we are who we are. We have to stop messing around in the first half of games.

Even with the long drive GT had in the 1st half, there were back to back drives when we were down 14-10 and GT ran 6 plays for 7 yards and we did not cash in offensively.

We get bogged down, because every pass has to be a 20 yard or more big play and we refuse to run the ball in the first half to set up the pass. If you don’t put points on the board against a team like GT early, then they will continue to stick with the game plan that we saw. The score was 14-10 at the half. Remember, Cam missed Arroyo down the middle on the second drive for a TD.

We cannot miss opportunities with the defense that we have.

We ran 21 plays to 6 plays offensively against GT to end the half after their record breaking drive and we scored 0 points.

You cannot have an offense like ours and score 10 pts in the first half like this. We’ve started slow in the majority of our games recently. You can’t just turn it on all of the time. It will catch up to you as we saw yesterday.

This defense isn't Miami's O equivalent, and by that I mean "hold any opponent with a pulse to under 10-14 points".

That is reality.

So contending with that reality, Miami's O must score at least 28+ every single game to gave a chance at tbe dub dub.

Why waste energy getting upset over that?

Miami is a good team, I would argue not a good++ team and certainly not a great or elite team because the defensive secondary situation is King of Suck Donkey Balls Mountain.

Unfair pressure on Miami's O to have to ruck the march every game, but it is the reality.

🤷‍♂️
Good stuff but I don't lay the D problems only on the D Secondary. All three levels suck at this point. Almost 300 yds rushing to GT? Horrible on third downs and we don't sack or turnover anyone.

Be nice to have a speed back/back with some shakes on offense as well.

You live by the sword you die by the sword.

The truth is we’ve been out coached multiple times this year but Cam has carried the offense enough to overcome it.

Defensively, it’s the same story. Opponents use a little motion or shift and we can’t get aligned. Nobody sets an edge so running backs can just turn the corner and have one on one opportunities with poor tackling DBs. Virginia Tech set the template and Georgia Tech just did the same thing.

Offensively FSU exposed Dawson for what he really is. A guy with a good playbook but no ability to adapt. Take away the mid range passing game and we struggle to counter with anything. Georgia Tech used the same philosophy. We have no quick game. Once in a while we’ll run an RPO slant but that’s it. We don’t run screens to running backs. We don’t run bubble screens, we have short yardage passes but they’re mostly designed to beat tight man coverage and are useless when teams drop guys.

Cam had his most inaccurate game of the season. If he hits a couple of the easy misses he had yesterday, Miami likely wins the game. But it would still be masking the greater issue. We don’t have coaches who can adjust to what an opponent does. We can get all the talent in the world and it won’t matter because well coached teams with better game plans will beat us.

@DM, 💯 spot on. To me, it’s about how we own it, get up, go back to work and attack the remainder of season. I think this team responds and delivers down the stretch. All that said, we are a flawed team with glaring weaknesses but if we are right and step play on both sides, we can have a very successful end of season to build upon.

It’s true that this wasn’t a truly undefeated team. But in year three, we should have been able to beat a weak Georgia Tech team, especially as double-digit favorites.

Agree.
A lot of us predicted high 20’s, low 30’s for GT,
We had 10 possessions, and only scored on 4.
This offense, in this game, had to be more efficient than that.

If we are playing our best players on D then our roster sucks. consistently beaten to the outside all year. #1 on d can't cover me and I am an old man. where has the need for speed gone on the defensive side of the ball. can't get to the qb all this hype about dline is just that hype

It’s not it being one loss . It’s how the loss looked. We were gashed for close to three bills by a team with a qb with no arms and couldn’t throw . They played with two arms tied behind their back yet we couldn’t stop them while allowing them to paper cut us to death possessing the ball. In basketball terms this offense was “ self guarded “. At least FSU had a qb with two functioning arms when we played. On top of that you knew what the play was by who the qb was lol.

I guess we shouldn’t be upset and accept another loss to a double digit underdog , with less talent than us . Because good programs lose those type of games all the time.

GT and their staff made our staff look like chumps and our staff made themselves look worse crying about GT getting help from other Acc schools in pre game. This is just an atrocious look all the way around.
We knew our defense has been trash all year besides at the swamp. I’m saying the team is what it is and we know that. Guidry has lost all the faith of the fan base

Where is the nfl talent in defense!?!?

That tells you how good the defense is.

I see 3 to 4 guys who will get drafted.

Baron late round pick maybe
Bain still has work to do but will be drafted
Mesidor maybe late round pick
OJ has the traits.

That’s it!!!!!!! That’s a major problem for this years and program.

They clearly aren’t smart enough to play zone and are constantly confused on the field.

It’s bad coaching but most of all, bad talent.

I don’t see a single NFL top 3 round pick. That is a massive issue!

Precisely. Cribby with sense again. Anyone who's head is in the sand is a full. Of course they were going to lose. But it should not have been yesterday under those circumstances. They got out coached. Guidry should be terminated at the end of the season, at least.

Hope Alston and Brown can play the last two games. We need speed at DE on those passing downs and Brown is a top 3 db on the team.

On O, give me Allen as one of the two backs. He is the best threat to make someone miss in the flats.

Feel your point, but shouldn’t take a loss to bring about adjustments. Anyone with a pair of eyes could see opponents laughing their asses off running to the edges on a weekly basis.

It’s year three and we’re still talking about talent ? How much talent do we need to stop a qb with no arms ?

We are a poorly coached team. That’s a fact unfortunately. And we will always be that with Mario

Don’t get me wrong. There is no excuse for always being confused or out leveraged. That coaching or players not playing to their assignment. I don’t know which one it is or both.

But I did see multiple times a player in position to make a play and they didn’t. 100% on the players. Kiko has been terrible. Taking the wrong gap or flat out missing tackles in space.

Harris taking bad angles and once again missing tackles in space. They guys have to make a play and they just aren’t good enough to do so. That is talent.

#20 looking into the field side when a WR burns Porter for a TD. Patterson covered grass that play. Is that coaching or him not understanding and playing the QB who made one read.

How much is it talent verse coaching?
