NFL contracts are made by businessmen who will only pay a player fair market value. These boosters who are throwing around this money to recruits are basically just fanboys with lots of money. But the market will correct itself there too. Especially in FSU's case. All these high paid recruits wont live up to the lofty expectations, we see it all the time. Norvell will bring in transfers that will play over these high paid recruits. When this happens you will see less and less bags getting thrown around.
Any chance we can get all this to happen before December??

I posted during the season there was zero chemistry with this staff. Tbh a lot of them didn’t even like each other. Just look at the sidelines a lot of the games. It was a morgue. Believe it or not players feed off the energy . Good or bad. Last year it was easy to quit when coaches weren’t coaching for each other and players were not playing for each other. As a whole it was beyond toxic and the product showed. When this staff was hired I said it was a complete 180 with personalities and bringing energy. A much more likable group. I can guarantee the sideline looks dramatically different.
Oh god plz no plz don’t tell me jalar Holley coming back dance moves again

No, you didn’t. You know why? Because we had a top 7 class by the second week of July. But I guess that doesn’t matter, just like this year’s flop of a class (thus far) doesn’t matter to some ignorant people on here. We should not care about recruiting til December.

We’re flipping everyone!!!

We’re closer to Lightfoot flipping than anything if we don’t land an interior prospect…soon. Ohio St has been on his a$$. Everyone and their mother knows the deal. But you know what? I’m just spewing obviously because why would he want to flip if signing day is December? Since recruiting now doesn’t matter…right?

Wait, you don't remember the CONSTANT second wave jokes last year? How about the CONSTANT we have zero momentum post last year as well?
For the record not saying this class is going to turn out well just pointing out that last year this BS did happen.

If I'm remembering correct, Mario set up a couple big time commits right before the season started last year, so there was fan momentum going into that first game..... well........ Guess what's next Friday?!?! I'll do it to myself and be expecting a splash or two before Friday Night Lights!!! LFGGGGG

I remember too well. We’re still making jokes about it this cycle because it’s on par with the continuous hype this summer, only to fall considerably short.

But looking back on it, last year’s second wave comments were almost greedy in a sense. We still had a top 7 ish class, then lost some big boy battles to Bama, OSU and UGA. No shame in it. We got caught up in Mario being Him on the recruiting trail + NIL.

This year we’re outside the top 20 in average recruit rating and it’s late August. Stone and Patterson represent the very last opportunity before the season gets underway to generate momentum in recruiting. That’s why it feels very different. Summer is over.

Not arguing about this class.
Now last years class there were constant second wave jokes but when the second wave finally came in it was pretty fuuucking good and almost none of those folks making the jokes took them back. That's all.

To be fair tho, that's the Miami way. For reason we have a stupid catch phrase every year that usually falls short of expectations and that's even before Mario. Going back to make the crib great, watch the finish, then under Mario it was second wave and whales lol

The second wave last year included Okunlola and Bain and others...now how could that be considered "short of expectations"

Wasn’t the second wave mentioned incessantly late July/August? I might be forgetting, but we also joked about Cormani finally being the second wave and that was late October.

I guess there’s no perfect timeline.

I don’t think it was culture shock as much as the staff not fitting together. I would have expected a larger exodus in the portal if that was the case. We didn’t lose many guys that we really wanted to keep.

I think the team accepted Mario for the most part. The biggest problem was coaching egos that killed trust. We never gelled and couldn’t sustain momentum.

Gattis’ inexperience and lack of accountability really torpedoed this team and it spilled over into every aspect. The rebuild was bigger than he expected and instead of embracing it and adjusting to the talent on hand, he allowed his ego to create a toxic environment that killed the offensive players’ confidence. He doesn’t have the chops we needed in the passing game and was too rigid and acrimonious.

There were other issues, but he was the biggest.

We didn’t look like we did because of talent or because the team turned on Mario. I have been on a talented team that had many of the same issues. Injuries, bad play calling, finger pointing. I knew what the problem was after MTSU. The only difference was it wasn’t because of a bad leader at head coach. It was due to poor fits at the coordinators and little cohesion with the position coaches.

By seasons end, nobody believed in anything we were doing. It’s remarkable how Mario held the team together in the off-season. His leadership ability is underrated. He has flaws in his game day coaching, but he can win big with the right coordinators because he is a leader of men.

The good thing about last year’s melt down is it made him reevaluate his philosophy. He saw how bad can get if he is stubborn clinging to an outdated, complicated passing philosophy. The early returns with Dawson look promising so far and I believe success will influence his coaching searches in the future. Losing that battle could help us win the war. An aggressive, quick hitting passing game to go with the physical run he loves is Miami football. Get the ball out of the quarterback’s hand quick and attack the entire field. Give him easy reads and keep him clean. Pair that with what we know he can do in the run game and we wil be in the playoff hunt.

Good post…I agree with much of it.

I support Cristobal but I think this is a tad bit overly optimistic and absolves/praises him a bit too much. I can't argue that Gattis was the biggest problem. Coaching egos clashing make sense too…But this man hired this staff? He got hustled/duped by Gattis who, like you said, simply doesn't have the passing game acumen. (Mario is supposed to be able to know everything about Gattis's passing philosophy after interviews, there is a reason Harbaugh had to get re-involved and rein Gattis in with that offense) Part of the reason I was optimistic about CMC compared to Diaz was his air of professionalism compared to the Diaz **** show, and his rolodex. So how does he put together a staff that auto-fails? The staff is supposed to "fit together"

By seasons end, nobody believed in anything we were doing.

Agree 1000%…Probably stated better than joe saying they just flat out quit. But I do believe there were some sour grapes among veterans whose roles were reduced and that posion can run through a team even if not overtly stated. I also think that when some other guys finally got their shot after losing a starting job or role (Blades, A.Williams) they weren't ready or just didn't care.

Ya but would we know if they weren't? Everything's roses every August. I do think it's a clear upgrade….And his personality will mesh and be welcomed after rattlesnake Gattis's… I'm pretty neutral on him overall. I do think overall the hire was slightly disappointing…Again where's Mario's rolodex? There were better out there. But I'm optimistic. And love the DC hire.

All in all we are on same page, and as I've stated before I still think CMC can accompolish a lot at UM…I'm slightly less confident than I was a year ago…But still won board.

We will do anything to stay trendy and relevant. Goofy social media posts acting like we’re top dogs still, when in reality we’re at best a second-tier program.

You know what really brings a program back to prominence and gets people to notice?

Winning games and landing stud recruits. We did one of them last cycle. It’s time to do both this time around.

Yup I agree and hopefully so …But you can't say it isn't alarming that he hired last year's staff in the first place? His obsession with Jason Candle as option #1 (or at least high up) as an OC is also a little alarming/puzzling (I'm neutral on Candle and do like some things about his offense…Think he's a below average head coach…But point is NO ONE besides CMC, who just hired…Josh Gattis…holds Candle in the esteem that CMC does)

It eventually came but they started saying second wave months before that and that's why it became a running joke on the board.

So the board was impatient lol
You don't say!
They had to wait wait a couple of months because they didn't meet the imaginary time line set by the board.
End of the day the wave came and it was great.
