Xavier Restrepo leaning towards not playing in bowl game..

Insurance would not bring X any joy in replacing crushed dreams.

What are we doing man? I know he is represented by Rosenhaus Sports Agency/Shawn O'Dare former Miami player, but he is a 3rd/4th round pick, and his last time on field he fumbled the season away. Like there is no way X doesnt want to play in this bowl game.

These agents, Miami alums, are real friends of the program.

This is same sleezey group that pulled TVD to Bama stunt after spring practice, and shook down Miami for more money. Also pulled Colbie Young stunt that tried shaking down Miami for more money.

Restrepo isnt going to lose money playing in a bowl game unless a limb literally falls off. Its scare tactics by agents.

D and Ariz also saying on podcast Brown isnt playing and obviously not Horton.

We arent winning a bowl game without 3 of our top 4 WRs. Iowa State isnt going to have that sorta opt out impact.
What are you going to say to him and his family if he tears his ACL in the pop tarts bowl smh?

Please don't play. I know you can tear an ACL anytime, any practice. You got a chance for the NFL.
Concentrate on that.

Unless in your NIL you have a clasue where it says you have to play in the bowl game. Then honour that contract

I understand both sides to it - finish the season out crowd and the don’t risk injury crowd.

Here’s my take and it has nothing to do with Restrepo - NIL deals should have a clause where your deal is backloaded, 50% of your deal isn’t paid until your teams season CONCLUDES. You skip a game to protect yourself from injury, that’s fine and a decision these young men have to make for themselves, but it will most definitely cost you.

yes or just pay them per game pro rated at whatever they agreed on. if they dont play the bowl they are leaving it on the table for the collective to put towards future classes

That sucks?

Could get hit by a car.

Funny people like you take the players side and then say people don’t care about player health.

Others take the teams side and think about that concept and say it’s changed their opinion as it’s a me first mentality and you were paid to play.

Others don’t care either way and say it’s meaningless anyhow this bowl so let’s see the backups get playing time. Those people are told they aren’t really fans cause they don’t care if we win.

Did I miss anyone 🤣

dont care.

id prefer if all the seniors or guys leaving early opted out of bowl game for all teams. id rather our younger guys get meaningful playing time. it would be more entertaining to me as a fan to watch jojo and carr out there catching passes from one of our younger QBs than watching our starters play in a meaningless game.

i hope it becomes the norm
for all teams not playing in the playoffs, to only play guys who are coming back next season.

If X wants to sit out I have no problem with it he’s given all he had every week I also want to see the young kids play at WR personally

Beyond a legendary cane but those b2b week fumbles are a crap way to go out in what is the greatest career in the history of the school. Wish he is playing to redeem it and get us a much needed bowl win but totally get and respect the decision to not play

There’s a pretty strong correlation between bowl game performance and subsequent season success… it’s not perfect, but it’s real.

Also, bytching about fans who would like to see the best version of the team they support is weak.

Taking shots at X is ridiculous and stupid. But wanting to see him finish the season with his team is most definitely not… especially if Cam and Martinez are playing. They obviously don’t think the game is meaningless.

Separately, should a player return 1/13 of his NIL revenue for the year if he skips the bowl game? Or do you think that’s ridiculous? If so, why?
I want to see him play but I would never question his decision either way. It’s his choice to make and live with. As far as NIL goes it’s a legal contract. Whatever the contract says goes. If a player were to lose out on 1/13 of their contract I think that would be appropriate unless of course it’s a guaranteed contract.

And as for the indicator of next years performance…Jaccuri TE Brown stinking up Yankee Stadium didn’t tell me much about this years team.

You mean the same ACL he could have popped playing Florida A&M? What's he going to say to Cam and Martinez? I, would rather the record of the team I played on for my final year in college be 11-2 instead of 10-3. I, would rather leave it on the field with my guys then sit and watch them fight without me.. knowing I could have been there with them. I, would get the insurance and go fight alongside the guys I've been fighting alongside all year long. Meaningless this.. meaningless that.. it's another game, finish out the season you started. X doesn't need to do a ******* thing for me, imo he does owe his teammates tho.

No issue if he decides not to play. Absolutely correct re: Rosenhaus. Sleaze personified.

Dude bled orange and green for four years, did everything expected of him and was a great ambassador for the program. Get off of his **** back, he has the right to opt out and honestly, I don’t blame him. We don't know if he’s been battling an injury or he’s beat up and just wants to move on.

A dude like X, I have no beef with him sitting out. He’s done more than enough for this program and unlike Cam, he likely doesn’t have some huge insurance contract to where he’s covered either way.
Dude alot of fans don't really care. He has to play one last meaningless game and risk his draft status so they are happy. Its beyond selfish and stupid. That dude played 3 years with **** teams and never wavered but its not enough. It is what it is. He should absolutely focus on raising his draft status right now....one more game is doing nothing for him.

A good majority of the team don't think it's meaningless. Fans spending their hard-earned dollars to go to game don't think its meaningless. I don't think Iowa State players think it's meaningless. End of season records won't show it's meaningless. "Hey guys we fought and battled through off season conditioning, spring practice, summer workouts, and made it thru regular season 10-2, and we have a chance to finish season with first 11 win season since 2003, finally have some off season momentum this program almost never has, but nah guys I'm good. Yall go do your best! Go fight win! yipppee.."

Can't live life in a bubble. He could tear his ACL running routes on air prepping for NFL combine. He could tear his ACL in the Senior Bowl. What you're basically telling your teammates is I am more important than you are. Again, I think it's not his mindset it's his agent pushing him hard not to play.

lol the carry over is non-existent.

we lost our bowl to RU (does it matter? no because the QB from that team is gone and we landed a ton of new guys including the best transfer in the country at QB). we could win next saturday and still be 6-6 next year bc we lose so much of this roster. with how each roster turns over, there is very little meaning or even momentum that carries over. rutgers is 7-5 now. they were 7-6 last post bowl win. theyre the same team.

I’m sorry was this year some big success? We were top 5 in NIL spent, had the best QB in CFB, and missed the playoffs.

There is absolutely a correlation… and it has to do with culture, competition, and commitment within the team. Just ask FSU and UGA if you don’t believe me.

For middling programs - which we are at this point - bowls are absolutely an indication of program trajectory.
