Xavier Restrepo leaning towards not playing in bowl game..

I would like to see all the young receivers play the whole game.
So you would like to lose?

What are we doing?

We went 10-2 with X and Horton, and now we play the best team weve played all season, and yall want all the young WRs to play?

Iowa State fans Im sure are wanting their 2 1,000 yard WRs to sit so their young players can play.

All I hear is the bowl game is meaningless, then why is majority of our team practicing their tail off? Why is Iowa State practicing hard to try to kick our tail? Why are fans paying good money to come watch the game if its all meaningless.

The WVU QB last night said he wanted to lay it all on the line one more time for WVU. Meaningless though

Well if no receivers want to play then yes I want to see the next guys up.

Nobody is HOPING our top WR's play...we're just excited to see what the younger ones can do.

Would love to see him play one more time but gives a chance to get trader, Carr, and Joseph some reps

I understand both sides to it - finish the season out crowd and the don’t risk injury crowd.

Here’s my take and it has nothing to do with Restrepo - NIL deals should have a clause where your deal is backloaded, 50% of your deal isn’t paid until your teams season CONCLUDES. You skip a game to protect yourself from injury, that’s fine and a decision these young men have to make for themselves, but it will most definitely cost you.

I would offer the following if I was running a bowl game. Starters only FYI.
Linemen, TE, linebackers and D-back $`10,000 each
WR’s and RB’s $15,000
QB’s $20,000.

Assuming an offense plays with 3WR’s, 1 TE and 1RB, the offense would cost the bowl $140,000 per team, or $280,000 total.
The defense would cost $110,000, or $220,000 in total. Add it up and for $500,000 I would get probably just about every starter to play. and wit that maybe even some viewers. If a bowl can’t afford $500,000 it should not exist.
Maybe $2,500 each to everyone else. Some guys play “starter” snaps even though they technically weren’t with the first 22 to start the game.

It’s simply time to do contracts in college - take the P4 conferences and convert them into a National College Football League - make SEC commissioner Sankey the League Commissioner and divide the schools into “divisions or regions of maybe 7 teams”, and the top 20 teams make the playoffs.

That’s on anyone dumb enough to not realize the game is the equivalent of a spring training baseball game.

There’s a pretty strong correlation between bowl game performance and subsequent season success… it’s not perfect, but it’s real.

Also, bytching about fans who would like to see the best version of the team they support is weak.

Taking shots at X is ridiculous and stupid. But wanting to see him finish the season with his team is most definitely not… especially if Cam and Martinez are playing. They obviously don’t think the game is meaningless.

Separately, should a player return 1/13 of his NIL revenue for the year if he skips the bowl game? Or do you think that’s ridiculous? If so, why?

They have the money as ESPN owns most of the bowl games.

lol the carry over is non-existent.

we lost our bowl to RU (does it matter? no because the QB from that team is gone and we landed a ton of new guys including the best transfer in the country at QB). we could win next saturday and still be 6-6 next year bc we lose so much of this roster. with how each roster turns over, there is very little meaning or even momentum that carries over. rutgers is 7-5 now. they were 7-6 last post bowl win. theyre the same team.

How would we feel if X gets a serious injury and jeopardize his NFL career?

I guess if X had 125 yards and (3) TD catches and we win as he’s carried of the field with career altering injury, we’d say oh well X will get better great win and my cold beer was great and X will fade away to irrelevant.

X is 1000% correct in his decision it’s our own selfish pride that’s the problem at X expense for our entertainment .

X has always been on the road less traveled we just have no idea but our own enjoyment.

We’ll “feed” and turn on X and rip him apart instead of respecting his decision in support.

It’s a choice
There is insurance to protect a player against an injury causing a drop in draft status and lost money so your entire rant is worthless. #GHEY

People blame NIL and the transfer portal for everything. Like bowl games haven’t been 90% meaningless of 20 years now
people are just salty players can get paid now and the CFB today isnt the sham it was years ago. it seems people were happier when the schools took advantage of players under the guise of a paper saying you have a worthless degree in liberal arts.
