Xavier Restrepo leaning towards not playing in bowl game..

X is the best there's ever been at his position regardless of whether he plays or doesn't. And honestly, I couldn't care less about this game, and I'm not sure why anyone does since it doesn't matter at all. "Only game against a ranked opponent?" Syracuse is ranked, Lousiville was ranked, Florida would have been ranked if they beat us, Ga. Tech probably should be ranked, etc., etc. Really, what difference does it make if AP says we're 13 or 14 or 24? Bowl games need to pivot to August of next year or just go away in the playoff era.
We came up short, it wasn't his fault, and I hope we're all fighting for the chance to draft him in fantasy football for the next 10 years since the rules won't let UM keep him that long. But he has my respect for life, and I'd hope all of us here feel the same.

What are we doing man? I know he is represented by Rosenhaus Sports Agency/Shawn O'Dare former Miami player, but he is a 3rd/4th round pick, and his last time on field he fumbled the season away. Like there is no way X doesnt want to play in this bowl game.

These agents, Miami alums, are real friends of the program.

This is same sleezey group that pulled TVD to Bama stunt after spring practice, and shook down Miami for more money. Also pulled Colbie Young stunt that tried shaking down Miami for more money.

Restrepo isnt going to lose money playing in a bowl game unless a limb literally falls off. Its scare tactics by agents.

D and Ariz also saying on podcast Brown isnt playing and obviously not Horton.

We arent winning a bowl game without 3 of our top 4 WRs. Iowa State isnt going to have that sorta opt out impact.
What in the actual **** is wrong with some of you - do NOT disparage this man. He’s making the right decision for what he thinks, even if it’s different than others think. But he has done enough to laugh at all of you Giving him **** right now and so am I.

HES DONE MORE THAN 99.999% of players that ever wore the uniform

Keep your hands out of other peoples wallets

Why aren’t the bowl games and/or their TV partners paying players to play?
Easiest way to resolve this issue IMO. Bowls should have an NIL budget per team and spread that money to the starters.
This is what I thought the Pop Tart earth shattering news was going to be, and it was really about a trophy. Some here love Rad being cheeky with the pastry appliance but I was aiming a tad higher.

This thread reeks of entitlement and insanity
After all X has done, some of these dudes think he owes it to them to play under the guise of doing it for his redemption lol. I think these dudes would literally deny him ring of honor status over this. It’s an incredible thing to me to see the mindsets of some.

The same posters upset he isnt playing are the same posters who arent even going to the game and its in Orlando. Lol. Go Figure.

Good luck, X! Thanks for the good times. You owe us nothing more. Most fun we have had as Cane fans in years. Wish things would have shaken out differently but thats just the way it is. Hopefully he left the foundation for the program to go nowhere but up from here.

Man, going out there with a QB with a chip on his shoulder wanting to light up a D wouldn't hurt his future. This game could help him. Imagine Ward throwing for 500, and you're on the receiving end of 200 of them. Go make one last, big impression.
I hear you big time, it’s just X made a very tough agonizing call not to play his family future is riding on him .

X has turned his focus to the NFL deservingly so. He came back for all the right reasons and is leaving for all the right reasons .

Can’t wait to follow him in the NFL

Treat scholarships as contracts. A multi-year scholarship means a multi-year agreement to play for the school, unless a release is agreed upon. Turn revenue sharing to guaranteed money to prevent running players off. School has to pay the player's share regardless. Player cannot simply portal out because they choose to.

Include bowl participation to revenue sharing. A player loses a percentage by opting out for reason other than injury.

Change the college football calendar to better manage NSD(s) and coaching changes.

His agent is making the decision. I personally think X wants to play. Lots of people are missing the main point of this post anyway. AGENTS in college football=Lots of issues

I will never disparage X for any decision he makes regarding football. That young man is the paradigm for UM football players and student-athletes. He was a great student and football player when 80% of the fanbase hated him because he wasn’t taller or faster.

I will disparage agents though. Those guys are looking out for X, which is good, but don’t give a **** about UM. Their advice is typically garbage and has hurt a lot of former players.

Best of luck, X, I’m looking forward to your NFL career.

lol or hes looking out for his own health. this game is meaningless. its the pop tart bowl. he doesn't owe us a bowl game. make the best decision for himself and not for fans.

I would question his intellect if he played. None of these guys should be playing, If Cam plays, it will be for a Quarter.

What??? Have any of you played sports before? Its called being a competitor.

How about a culture of a championship program.

"Smart praised his team's buy-in, which included decisions by a number of key seniors to play. Georgia did not have any official opt-outs, though several stars, including tight end Brock Bowers, missed the game due to injury.

"The game mattered just because, if you're a competitor, then every game matters -- every opportunity you get to go out there and play with people you love," Georgia defensive back Kamari Lassiter said.

Lassiter was drafted 42nd overall for all you that shake in your boots at the thought of a football player, you know playing in a football game.

X makes good NIL to play football games at Miami, and its a shame a aleezey agent is going to talk him out of one last ride

calm down. its a pop tart Bowl most of the country wont even watch

So first of all like you said, X and those guys arent comparable from a draft standpoint. They are the best example of "hurting" your stock in a bowl game, and they are both set easily for life. Yes in those rare circumstances they lost out on up front money. But in long run it didnt effect their life dramatically.

Out of hundreds of players, thousands of players, we use 1 offs (where set player) makes over 30 million as reasons to not play. Why even play this season then? Why not go pro last season? Miami has 1 more game to play. Its on the schedule. You make a good NiL to play football for Miami. Dont run out on team during last game.

I know the younger generation doesnt get this. Im also not mansplaining, im saying what coaches all over say. We expect our players to play in our games.

Mario
Fran
Kirby

List goes on and on

Again my point is I think him sitting is agent driven not self driven.
1. The reason to play the season instead of going pro last season is to IMPROVE your draft stock, like Restrepo did, and make yourself more money. Playing or not playing in the bowl game will have zero effect on his draft stock, so he has very little to gain and everything to lose.

2. McGahee and Smith were able to earn $30 million because they were good enough to earn a second contract. 70% of players do not get a second contract, so Restrepo would be INSANE not to maximize his earning potential while it is at its highest point.

3. Coaches get a bonus if they make and win a bowl game, so of course they want their best players to play in games. Restrepo likely gets nothing.

4. This bowl game, along with all other non-playoff bowl games, does not matter at all. These games exist because they are insanely profitable for the school and the conference and the TV networks and the executives who run the bowl games. You want Restrepo to play? Pay the guy to do it.

5. It is the agent's job to make his client as much money as possible. If my agent was urging me to play in a bowl game because of pride, I'd fire that agent before he finished talking.

It will be great if he plays, as long as he holds on to the ball when a potential fumble loses the game for us. If he doesn't play, that's also fine, as we can see Cam light it up with our freshman wide receivers.
