Xavier Restrepo leaning towards not playing in bowl game..

this started before NIL.

mccaffrey didnt play in the bowl game before the draft

this isnt NIL.
I didn't say it was. Others have.

There's a whole lot of b!tching and moaning on here, which I get to a point. However, this is the current state of CFB and it's not going back to the way it was. I tried to touch on all the complaints I had seen in this thread with my comments. Complaining that X is leaning to sitting out after being named All American because he doesn't think the risk is worth an electric trophy that toasts pastries is a personal business decision. If this was the Rose Bowl or Sugar Bowl (ahem, playoff games), then it's a different story. People don't have to like it, but they do have to accept it.

I just don’t see why. The win over Iowa State means nothing and at this point he’s a top 10 pick. Why risk that for a meaningless game
Some sort of hang up on his NIL contract. People don't read the fine print in their contracts closely enough. We had an NIL jit at the gym who took a 2nd one from a competitor with 4 weeks remaining on his deal with us. No bueno.

i agree.

He said he was discussing with his agency whether to play or not, so this isnt injury related.

This is pure scare tactic by them.

He isnt going to cost himself all this money, another big Story created by agents.

2 of the worst bowl game injuries ever were to Jaylan Smith and Willis McGahee.

Smith made 33 million in NFL
McGahee made 32 million in the NFL
No one on earth thinks Restrepo is McGahee. Restrepo is starting behind the 8-ball and McGahee was injured in the natty, not the tarty

mcgahee was a top 5 pick pre injury. he never got his form back even tho he had a long career.

he also got hurt in the ******* NC game. this is the pop tart bowl. graig cooper played in the same bowl and got hurt and was never the same again. king played in the same bowl got hurt.

I also wasn't attacking you in that last comment. Hope you didn't read it that way.

Honest admission - I'm growing increasingly more concerned that we will never return to anything near our glory days because the SEC, B1G, NIL and ESPN (phvuck them) are seeing to it that only large public schools in those conferences get a shot at the prize. I have a wife and kids to pay for, not an NIL contract to fund. I say this because I'll never donate more than a couple hundred a year to the program until my kids are out of the house. Even then, I'm not increasing it much....there's something peculiar about multimillion dollar coaches asking for donations that leaves me feeling like I'm at a Joel Osteen revival.

no this started before NIL.

once jake butt ruined his career playing in a bowl game, that was when kids got smart
2017 is when opt outs became trendy which is around same time as the portal. I believe it was Fournette and then McCafferey

The two aren’t related.

NIL needs to be shelved and the portal needs to revert back to the old rules. You sit a year.

You want to pay players? They all get the same. OT and QB…same. Kicker? Same.

You make the playoffs there could be an additional 5k for the extra games. Everyone gets it. That coupled with a free education.

Not good enough? Go JUCO get a degree and try out for the NFL.

Ticket allotments cost the school money. No Cam or X could = not fulfilling your ticket allotment. Chit UCF reportedly lost money on that Fiesta Bowl with Blake Bortles
a lot of schools lose money on these games. theyre more for the sponsorship than anything.

most of these games are barely even half filled.

you cant force players to sit a year after a transfer if coaches dont have to sit a year after accepting a new gig.

This argument ignores the fact that Smith was a projected Top 5 pick before the injury. Leonard Floyd went 9th overall in that draft and got $15 million guaranteed and a $9.67 million signing bonus. Smith got $4.4 million guaranteed and a $2.92 million signing bonus.

The difference is massive!

McGahee was also a project Top 5 pick. Instead he went 23rd and got a signing bonus of $4.5 million, meanwhile Terence Newman went 5th overall and got $13 million as a signing bonus.

Those injuries likely cost those guys millions of dollars. Restrepo is not nearly the same prospect as Smith or McGahee.

Saying an injury wouldn't cost Restrepo money is being willfully ignorant and no fan should have any issue with a guy like that deciding to skip the Pop Tarts Bowl.
So first of all like you said, X and those guys arent comparable from a draft standpoint. They are the best example of "hurting" your stock in a bowl game, and they are both set easily for life. Yes in those rare circumstances they lost out on up front money. But in long run it didnt effect their life dramatically.

Out of hundreds of players, thousands of players, we use 1 offs (where set player) makes over 30 million as reasons to not play. Why even play this season then? Why not go pro last season? Miami has 1 more game to play. Its on the schedule. You make a good NiL to play football for Miami. Dont run out on team during last game.

I know the younger generation doesnt get this. Im also not mansplaining, im saying what coaches all over say. We expect our players to play in our games.

Mario
Fran
Kirby

List goes on and on

Again my point is I think him sitting is agent driven not self driven.

Maybe some but the majority? No. @RVACane won’t and some others. They may ***** about calls or coaching decisions as will I.

Would love to win but it’s meaningless. Play some kids who want to play.

As for one of the greats? Effort wise and statistically no doubt.

I do hope Cam plays because it’s good for the backups to get quality their way also. See what they have. Don’t need to see Emory.
If we have s bunch of opt outs or some key ones and Iowa State doesn’t, there’s not much I can say if we lose. I think we’re losing regardless because of the defense. I’d rather get the young guys reps and start to see what we have going forward than anything else.

The **** you can’t. They did it until 2018.

You may not like it.

Also…if a coach leaves you can then allow transfers or make different rules.

This however has become ridiculous.

dont blame you and didnt see it as an attack. i was agreeing with you actually.

i do like the new forced trend that we see w Norvell and Kelly forced to give up some cash to the collective fund. i think all coaches should be forced to do the same or cry elsewhere that they dont have funds. mario makes nearly 8 or more a year. he has plenty of money to give to the NIL funds. ****, if richt can give a mill of his own for the IPF construction, mario can give the same

guess what? the rules changed so i guess youre stuck with it lol. you can choose not to watch. no one will miss you since the ratings were higher this year than before

You’re blaming agents for doing their jobs. This is how the system operates as set up now. Ultimately, the players make the decision to play or not, to ask for more money or not and to accept offers or not.
Correct. If we are going to blame the NIL, the portal, the big money conferences and E$PN, for CFB’s woes, than this is an expected outcome.
