Xavier Restrepo leaning towards not playing in bowl game..

What are we doing man? I know he is represented by Rosenhaus Sports Agency/Shawn O'Dare former Miami player, but he is a 3rd/4th round pick, and his last time on field he fumbled the season away. Like there is no way X doesnt want to play in this bowl game.

These agents, Miami alums, are real friends of the program.

This is same sleezey group that pulled TVD to Bama stunt after spring practice, and shook down Miami for more money. Also pulled Colbie Young stunt that tried shaking down Miami for more money.

Restrepo isnt going to lose money playing in a bowl game unless a limb literally falls off. Its scare tactics by agents.

D and Ariz also saying on podcast Brown isnt playing and obviously not Horton.

We arent winning a bowl game without 3 of our top 4 WRs. Iowa State isnt going to have that sorta opt out impact.
So are you implying that this one meaningless game might improve his draft stock? Man he is who he is. Scouts have 4yrs worth of tape on him. He's a late round pick simply because of measurables and lack of top speed. Maybe he could even be dealing with some type of injury and just want to be healthy for senior bowl or combine. Yah never know man.

So you want to lose the game?
I would love to win our 2nd bowl in what 20+ years?

But, I also feel it’s more important to start getting this roster and players ready for next year..

It’s the pop tart.. I’m not really taking it that serious tbh

Too many of you underestimate the sleazyness and grease that goes on with sports agents. Drew Rosenhaus could give two rips about Miami, he cares about himself and that's it. He's just the biggest name snake in the weeds we know of, the wanna be agents like him are even worse.

He said he was discussing with his agency whether to play or not, so this isnt injury related.

This is pure scare tactic by them.

He isnt going to cost himself all this money, another big Story created by agents.

2 of the worst bowl game injuries ever were to Jaylan Smith and Willis McGahee.

Smith made 33 million in NFL
McGahee made 32 million in the NFL

This right here is the culture Mario is trying to rid program of. This new age mentality, where ***** the team, im going to listen to self serving agents not follow my competitive gut.

Its a football game where you have a chance to compete, and win, and do something that hasnt been done at the school in 20 years.

In your last game YOU made the critical
Error that essentially cost your team the game. Come back for some
Redemption. No he doesnt owe us, he owes it to himself.

If we ever played bball I would 100% want to guard you.
Im sure X can decide for himself what he owes to himself and we should support that. He leaves as an all time great Cane.

It's disappointing that X ain't playing, but these consolation bowl games will be a thing of the past soon enough
Nope. Bowl games still get ratings. They aren't going to scrap the bowl system for several thousand players just because a few bigger names sit out.

I’m ready to see what the young guys got.

We really get to see that with Cam playing. And TBH, I wouldn’t be mad at Cam not playing either. It’s time to see what Emory has as well.
This.

These kids not getting reps deserve to play. Some can actually play but get buried by those getting paid.

I get it if you sit out if you're a top pick but if you might go into day 2? I am shocked that his sitting out but oh well.

Btw Pete saying he is hearing Sam Brown is not going to play...so that's gotta mean he will be hitting the portal

Horton transferring so there goes 3 of the top 4 WR’s. A lot of reps for Carr Robinson Jojo and Joseph.

The CFP bracket isn't gonna stay at 12 teams for long.

The format will grow once the SEC and B1G cherry pick the ACC and subsequently benefit from keeping more schools in playoff contention as the season goes on — the same driver for playoff expansion in literally every other major American sport.

When the playoff grows to around 24 — similar to what's in place for FCS, D2 and so on — bowl games will become even more like the NIT — where not only do players opt out, but schools opt out as well.

A few consolation bowls may survive for a bit, but their "significance" will be even further diminished.

ESPN is by far the biggest financial beneficiary of the bowl system as schools often barely break even or even lose money in the mid- and lower-tier games.

Worth nothing that there was an article in the Athletic a few months ago where an SEC administrator (Sankey?) made it clear that the days of the conference's schools going to bowl games and losing money would be coming to an end

Not to alot of the players, it also goes on coaches records, and alot of money involved. Its not meaningless at all.

Meaningless would be spring games

Back to X, me being a competitor, I couldnt walk off field for last time knowing my mistake played a huge role in the team not getting to the playoffs.

But again point of my post is agents have ruined college football. Slimy sleezey self interest bunch in alot of cases.
The school gets paid whether top players play or not.

This argument ignores the fact that Smith was a projected Top 5 pick before the injury. Leonard Floyd went 9th overall in that draft and got $15 million guaranteed and a $9.67 million signing bonus. Smith got $4.4 million guaranteed and a $2.92 million signing bonus.

The difference is massive!

McGahee was also a project Top 5 pick. Instead he went 23rd and got a signing bonus of $4.5 million, meanwhile Terence Newman went 5th overall and got $13 million as a signing bonus.

Those injuries likely cost those guys millions of dollars. Restrepo is not nearly the same prospect as Smith or McGahee.

Saying an injury wouldn't cost Restrepo money is being willfully ignorant and no fan should have any issue with a guy like that deciding to skip the Pop Tarts Bowl.

Nothing says "I deserve to be taken seriously" quite like sitting behind your computer screen mansplaining to Restrepo how he should handle his career. Show a little respect for one of the best receivers to ever put on the jersey.

Restrepo’s the last person on this team I’d complain about given what he’s given to the program - total effort role model and exceptional student athlete.
