Xavier Restrepo leaning towards not playing in bowl game..

His agent is making the decision. I personally think X wants to play. Lots of people are missing the main point of this post anyway. AGENTS in college football=Lots of issues
Don't take away his personal ability to think for himself. He's not a slave to someone who works for him. he can decide to ignore anyone's advice

NIL is ruining the sport. Transfer portal started it

Put the two together you get mass exodus. Players without the stars buried with no hope because they just bring in more mercenary players and the low star players can’t risk leaving they have no film.

Let’s pay them more incentive.

For the love of the game.
The bowls can either adapt to the current NIL system (current being the operative word in all decision making) or they can continue to lose relevance by acting as if this is 5 years ago.

If I was running a bowl I would scrap the swag and turn that into a check for each player, or at least for the starters as I want them to play in the bowl game.

the bowl gifts are jokes compared to the nil.

I would offer the following if I was running a bowl game. Starters only FYI.
Linemen, TE, linebackers and D-back $`10,000 each
WR’s and RB’s $15,000
QB’s $20,000.

Assuming an offense plays with 3WR’s, 1 TE and 1RB, the offense would cost the bowl $140,000 per team, or $280,000 total.
The defense would cost $110,000, or $220,000 in total. Add it up and for $500,000 I would get probably just about every starter to play. and wit that maybe even some viewers. If a bowl can’t afford $500,000 it should not exist.

the bowl pay out in 22-23

I wonder how much UM actually spends in comparison to this pay out.

1. The reason to play the season instead of going pro last season is to IMPROVE your draft stock, like Restrepo did, and make yourself more money. Playing or not playing in the bowl game will have zero effect on his draft stock, so he has very little to gain and everything to lose.

2. McGahee and Smith were able to earn $30 million because they were good enough to earn a second contract. 70% of players do not get a second contract, so Restrepo would be INSANE not to maximize his earning potential while it is at its highest point.

3. Coaches get a bonus if they make and win a bowl game, so of course they want their best players to play in games. Restrepo likely gets nothing.

4. This bowl game, along with all other non-playoff bowl games, does not matter at all. These games exist because they are insanely profitable for the school and the conference and the TV networks and the executives who run the bowl games. You want Restrepo to play? Pay the guy to do it.

5. It is the agent's job to make his client as much money as possible. If my agent was urging me to play in a bowl game because of pride, I'd fire that agent before he finished talking.
1.)Playing football to improve draft stock is not the only reason to play. He could have stopped midseason if his goal was that.

2.)He wouldnt be insane at ALL. You are assuming the 1% chance happens and he gets a catastrophic injury, and IF the rare happens, it still doesnt and hasnt shown to put athlete in bad financial situation. What If he catches the game winning TD to give his team an 11th win, and bring major momentum to the program he loves with his brothers?

3.)Restrepo is getting a handsome NIL deal to play football games for Miami. Well Miami has one last game in his last season.

4.)No games matter then. Why should Abdul Carter risk injury in playoff game vs. SMU when he could be the 4th player chosen? Why should Breshard Smith being heavy underdogs put his ACL on the line in Happy Valley? For what? SMU loses and what does he walk off field with?.. If the NFL draft is the measuring stick for all draft eligible players.

5.)Its not about urging him to play, its about urging him NOT to play. Let player decide. If it was agents decision not 1 single draft eligible player would ever play lets be honest.

Makes me sad to see so many “fans” **** on a kid who has gave it all on the field in the classroom and in the community because he may decide not to play in a meaningless bowl game. It’s bull****. X deserves so much better.
good for me. not for thee attitude

I'm more worried about opt-out candidates playing the bowl but being too careful, not playing with abandon and avoiding hits...

How would we feel if X gets a serious injury and jeopardize his NFL career?

I guess if X had 125 yards and (3) TD catches and we win as he’s carried of the field with career altering injury, we’d say oh well X will get better great win and my cold beer was great and X will fade away to irrelevant.

X is 1000% correct in his decision it’s our own selfish pride that’s the problem at X expense for our entertainment .

X has always been on the road less traveled we just have no idea but our own enjoyment.

We’ll “feed” and turn on X and rip him apart instead of respecting his decision in support.

It’s a choice

He said he was discussing with his agency whether to play or not, so this isnt injury related.

This is pure scare tactic by them.

He isnt going to cost himself all this money, another big Story created by agents.

2 of the worst bowl game injuries ever were to Jaylan Smith and Willis McGahee.

Smith made 33 million in NFL
McGahee made 32 million in the NFL
Don’t forget Jake Butt, if it hadn’t been mentioned yet.

This. This is the final chance to go to war with your brothers. Get in there.
Respect to Shedeur and Travis for their decision to play
