Xavier Restrepo leaning towards not playing in bowl game..

Is he practicing or not?

I thought DMoney said Brown was not which obviously means not playing and transferring/going UDFA route

no this started before NIL.

once jake butt ruined his career playing in a bowl game, that was when kids got smart

Read his story in The NY Times, heartbreaking. He said he would play again, but he’s always haunted by the what if? Unfortunately he had that DRose luck w/ the injury bug after one injury. That was a NY6 bowl, too; freak accident at Hard Rock Stadium from a bad tackle.

I think NIL or some sort of compensation has to be given to these young men. These bowl games have become nothing more than corporate sponsorship events. Jake played b/c it was the biggest bowl game of his career; & if iirc, Peppers did not play in this game.

With that said, even Jameson Williams was injured in the Nat’l championship game against UGA; ****, Jaylon Smith of ND was injured in a NY6 game vs. OSU (Fiesta). Look at Willis McGahee in our Nat’l Title Game!

Regardless if it’s a National Title Game, NY6, or a Pop Tart Bowl, it’s risky for a draft eligible player b/c of the nature of the sport. There has to be some sort of protection in play so a situation like Butts or Smith doesn’t happen from a financial standpoint. Williams was still a 1st Rd pick, but those other two lost hella $$. I’ve been advocating for this; if these sponsors want to collect on these investments, & the Bowl Committee want to promote this product so players don’t opt out, bring in some financial protection.

The easiest way is insurance. Since I’m in the industry, I know providing incidental insurance policies for draft eligible players based upon projected draft grades can go a long way. That way if a guy gets seriously injured & is no longer viewed as a 1st rounder (as an example), if he gets drafted let’s say the 3rd Rd, the policy will kick in matching the difference in lost revenue. There’s body part insurance, so I’m sure this is something that can be done.

Jake Butte is by far the best injury reason to not play, and it was rare. He still
Got drafted, and still made around 4 million dollars. This is the best case not to play, still
Drafted, millionaire, and he could have made more money played longer in NFL but he had another major injury playing in NFL.

And he says he would still play.

Mindset

Its whatever at this point.

I truly hope that if/when the playoffs go to 16 teams they just drop all other bowl games. Zero need for any of them. Set up a True Senior Bowl and then maybe each conference can have a senior all star event or run pro-days/combines where the kids compete against each other.

Anything but bowl games. Remove that month and add let schools add like 8-10 practices to the spring. You are paying them like pro's make them practice like it.
Has adding practices in the spring been proposed? I think this is the first I’m hearing of it and I like the idea. The way the portal is shaking up these rosters, it makes complete sense to have more spring practices.

No I just put that out there. I mean we are treating these kids basically like pro's so adding a handful of practices should be obvious.

As was I. I was with Nebraska fans…good people shared their alcohol with me.

What a game. What a night!

Unreal you remember your seats. Impressive.
I remember it like it was yesterday. I also remember looking at Nebraskas players and how massive they were, Dean Steinkuler(sp) was two people, of course, those were the "steroid" days...

You just slapped me with a memory…

I remember saying to the Nebraska people how HUGE their players were. Too funny!

Really wish we would get our linemen from the Midwest!

I remember going to the OB to watch everyone beat up on us when in elementary and Junior High. Then to be there for that and what it started. Remember starting to get excited with Jim Kelly and beating Penn State…

Gone are the days when football players were humble and like Bruce Springsteen. I want guys that will cut off their foot and still play. Guys who work minimum wage at a bar at the docks and then go train.

If I was in charge of Mario’s player characteristics analytics team I would target such characteristics.

Im going to go listen to some of Bruce’s older records now.

Wake me when it returns.

And you assume he has.

you see all sides but focus on one. It’s not wrong it’s how you feel.
Yes I did.

What’s a reasonable assumption that he decides to not participate in the bowl and didn’t speak to his teammates about it before he decided or that he did and his teammates gave him their support?

That's great, truth be told we had no business winning that game based on size alone. Our noseguard, Fitzpatrick was all of what 5'11'', 245lbs, my mom, a second-generation Miami fan cried after the game because she had watched us be the punching bag for decades.

Good times.

Inner workings on teams vary. In the end though…

Least likely is he held a team meeting and everyone hugged but you never know it’s possible. Many times teammates hear **** after player meets with coaches.

Doesn’t matter.

Don't think we weren't juiced as **** too. I knew one of the assistant trainers on that team.
