Wiltfong talks Miami

Lane is a great coach for a place like Ole Miss. He's going to win and play an exciting brand of football. But.....he's never going to be able to recruit at the level to compete with the Alabamas, LSUs and UGAs on a regular basis. He'll pull occasional upsets and win 8-10 games and that's about the ceiling there. For a school who's ultimate goal is to win national championships, you need someone who can bring in the players to beat those top programs on a regular basis. Long term, Mario was the much better choice for us. While Lane would have probably been the better short term choice.
This isnt a long term job.

The bolded is all thats needed.

MC was like my 3rd choice. But he is all MIAMI...and this is his "dream job" so if he fails he gonna GET RICH OR DIE TRYING (50 cent)

*Newsflash....no 1 is going to recruit on the level of Bama and UGA.

I rather have a coaching problem than a roster problem. They will say we have had a coaching problem yes it's true we have. But we haven't sent studs to the league and those coaches brought those dudes in. In three to four years you going to see some high round draft picks coming from the u again. Can't wait. Mario will stack
All we have to do is look in the NFL. We barely have any players dominating. Most of our players are roster fillers. Mario said it to Josh Pate as well. Thats #1 and we are spending the money to make it happen, he wants the best facility, not a good one, the best. He seen it at Oregon and how much it matters.

But people will ignore it. We have no super stars in the league. We will though in the future.

Bro we used to have the #1 player at every position except QB. And multiple at each position. Thats now UGA and Bama and LSU. People think we cant out recruit them, i think we can, its just gonna take a while and some results to start rolling in. If Mario had that season Richt had in 2017, that would be a #1 class

Facts. And that will happen under Mario. Just a matter of time.

Eh, we said no one was going to recruit at Alabama’s level until Georgia did. It’s a new day. Why do you think these SEC dudes are in DC lobbying for a NIL cap? Because they might lose their grip on every single top recruit now that others are allowed to pay them.

The level of SEC, Bama, UGA bedwetting over their "juggernaut" mythos is something else.

It's all about if we have the patience as a fan base to allow them to overhaul the talent forever so this doesn't happen again. So we don't die for 20 years looking for a revival. There will be some sort of system in place that allows to get the best yearly.
You get it.

Reminds me of the first time I ate at the Y.

I agree with everything you wrote. Nobody is winning without the talent. And all things being equal, if I can only pick one thing, I'm taking talent every time.

I do think the question becomes more interesting at the talent margins with coaching, though. Like, give Willie T (HC), Gattis (OC), and No-D (DC) Alabama's roster (at 89% blue-chips) then give LSU's roster (at 66%) to Kyle Whittingham (HC), Dan Mullen (OC) Brent Venables (DC) and I'm putting my money on LSU to win that match-up more often than not (notwithstanding the talent disadvantage).
Correct.

Given x opportunities, leadership and strategy can only overcome meaningful talent/capability gaps on a rare basis.

An organization gets the leadership to set the strategy to close those gaps overtime.

Given meaningless talent/capability gaps, best leadership and strategy will win 99%.

Who is TT?

Cincinnati recruits in the 30s. They got smoked off the field and immediately reverted to their mean the following year. I said “sustained success”. Not a 1 year flash in the pan. A good coach can do that if the ball bounces their way for a season. Nobody can do it year after year after year unless they croot.
Mean't TCU

If we win on the field we will be right there with them.
