Wiltfong On Campbell

I think the issue is that two elite players with substantial ties to Rumph (and one of whom has a parent indebted to Rumph for getting him a job) both have no interest in playing for Rumph. Raises some serious red flags. I don't think bag game has any effect on Campbell or PS2. Is Rumph just coming off as a total *** to recruits? They think he isn't a good coach and will hold them back? I don't know the answer. I still have confidence that Richt can close, but it's curious as to why it looks like the two best corner recruits in the country, who play at the HS where Rumph coached, want to have nothing to do with him.

The bottom line in this is that if we cannot land Campbell it is an absolutely epic failure that would speak volumes about where we really are in terms of "coming back". This isn't negativity it's the stone cold truth and the reality of the situation. I'm not at all counting on Surtain to come but if this staff can't close on the Heritage 3 of Silvera, Chatfield and Campbell then we need to reassess the the recruiting ability of some of this staff and yes Mike Rumph would be part of that. Someone said we need to add one more monster recruiter and I couldn't agree more. We need to add an offensive whiz then perhaps go down to 1 coach for all DBs and add a LB coach. One of those guys needs to be a recruiting prodigy. I think that every year you need to reevaluate and upgrade your staff if necessary and possible.

While it would be a **** shame if we miss out on Campbell(who I still think we get), it's definitely not a fireable offense for Rumph lol. The secondary was considered a weak spot coming into the season yet people are still using the end of the season struggles against the pass as Ann indictment solely of Rumph, which doesn't make sense. He's done a good job with our DBs and expect them as a group to only improve with the increase in talent coming in.

So Rumph should get a pass for bad recruiting and for us not covering anyone this year? Sounds good to me.

Bottom line: Make a big play with the AH 4, or beat it.

Spot on. Pete has said quite a few times that the 2018 class was THE class Richt had been focusing on since he became HC. So then its reasonable to assume he hired Rumph specifically to bring in players from AH, in the 2018 class. Yes, Rumph is a former Cane and a former NFL player. But those aren't the reasons Richt hired him. Kevin Beard checked off both of those boxes as well. Maybe I'm wrong and Richt brought in a guy who had no college coaching experience, to coach defensive backs, just because he is a former alum. But if thats not the case... and Rumph misses on Campbell... all **** SHOULD break loose.

Rumph missed on Marco Wilson, even though he coached him in high school and his dad played at Miami. The damage Golden did to the Miami - Wilson relationship should've been repaired with the hiring of Rumph. It wasn't. Lots of posters say Rumph had a hand in getting Surtain Sr the job at AH. So of course Surtain Jr rarely mentions Miami when discussing recruiting and leaves us out every time he names his top one billion. Slaton went to Florida. Herbert spurned him and was committed to Michigan for 6 months. Its also rumored that UFag not having an O-Line coach is what saved us with him.

To be clear I don't dislike Rumph. But if he misses out on Campbell, he can take a hike.

You guys crack me up, just bc a dude (Rumph) coached kids in HS doesn't make the kids obligated or any more likely to go to the school that said coach now coaches at. This is flawed logic
. You hope that the previous relationship gets us at the table, but the salesman piece doesn't change based on the previous relationship. It's all about what have you done lately, and can you get me to the league, point blank.

And for the record, Slaton wanted to come to us, but we didn't want him after Hebert & Hillary signed on.
It actually does mean that at every school but UM. 5* Ed Oliver follows his hs coach to Houston but we shouldn't expect Rumph to seal the deal at Miami?

He likely got us Nesta, that should count for a lot. And it looks like he likely got us Chatfield and possibly Campbell. So I guess we should wait and see how things pan out next month.

Banda hasn’t done any better than Rumph in recruiting, last time I checked he lost his top targets in 2017 class and jobe In 2018. He closed on hall so I’ll give him that

Has anyone thought that maybe they think they've learned all they can from Rumph and now want to work with a different elite CB coach?

Well you can guys can beg for it all you want but IF we don't land Tyson, don't expect Coach Richt to hand Rumph his walking papers the next day. It's just not realistic. The same people who were against every hire but Kul live for the moments that said coaches fail so they can rush to the message boards, claim they were right, and demand they be fired. And if Rumph and Banda are both terrible recruiters, who the **** gets credit for the 4 we just signed and the ones we signed last year? God?

Things more important right now:

1. Improving the DL depth
2. A competent 10th coach
3. LB recruiting
4. Signing one more OT
5. Getting Perry ready for the spring

Campbell is the best prosect in the nation at his position, but he is a want, not a need atm. Please please please guys, just let his recruitment play out, bc those tears might be better reserved for more pressing matters that may not be addressed.

After watching our DBs get torched by a very average Wisconsin QB I think he's a need.

I watched the Wiltfong video and I don't feel good about it. If the story about the GA visit is true...

some of these cry about Miami not being elite, then have the nerve to say we don't "need" the best **** CB in the nation. someone who also happens to be from south florida. smh

Banda closed on arguably the best safety in the nation in Hall. He was also Frierson's recruiter as well.

I'm not putting Jobe on Banda. That kid was flaky from the jump as I called that recruitment since last cycle. Just because some of you thought it's the staff's fault, doesn't mean it is. Banda can recruit, at least compared to Rumph.

I don't agree with this.

No one said the kids were obligated in anyway to come to Miami if Rumph was here. However, the fact that not one of them wants to come thus far is concerning with the exception of Silvera (not signed).

Slaton wanted to play DT, which we didn't want him at. The staff wanted him at guard, which is his money position. It had nothing to do with Herbert and Hillery (who are tackles).

I will give him Hall, but Frierson? That is Frank Gore's cousin, I am not sure he was going anywhere else.
