Who would you hire for HC?

He coaches in Stillwater, OK. Its kind of amazing that Oklahoma has managed to be good in this day of CF, but OKST? He's done everything he can for them, the team has peaked.

Stillwater, OK is no less lousy than a lot of other large state school college towns. You have TB Pickens pouring money into your program, wealth wins in college football. You really think that Clemson is a better place to live? Of course not. Never mind the fact that Texas has been down for a lot of his time in Stillwater. There's no TAMU to really fight with for recruits, they've lost a lot of ground in Texas since they've left the Big XII.

Another discussion on a HC....

We hire and fire HCs like we drink water. The problem is the AD and BOT. Until they are changed, I could give two ***** about a HC discussion.

They gotta fight Texas, Oklahoma, TAMU & even programs like Tech or Arkansas or LSU. Many hands are in the pot where they are recruiting.

Both Miles and Johnson were average at OkSt but left and won national championships at LSU and Miami respectively. I'd love to see what he could do here.

Jimmy Johnson was arguably the best talent person in the history of pro AND college football. Les Miles was able to go to a program following Nick Saban and not ***** it up. Miles was also a guy who understood that LSU is a program that **** near runs itself, provided the coach lets the machinery operate. For an example of this phenomenon, see Orgeron, Ed.

Gundy is a good coach, but I think that people forget that it's a different world when you aren't able to make one phone call and get everything you could have ever wanted as a coach.

We need a Football AD. Ive been saying this for years. Blake James can run womens tennis. Let the Football AD run football, let him be an NFL guy.

There's also a TON of talent in Texas and Louisiana. There's a lot of people stacking talent, but the pool is deep.

No candidate is perfect but you cant ignore the success he's had there while recruiting at NCST levels. I think he's got an interesting personality, one that'll go over well with the recruits in Miami area.

The problem is that he's recruiting at NC State levels DESPITE having significantly better infrastructure that many of the schools he's going against. Imagine him recruiting with none of those advantages. Say what you want, Pickens threw money around Okie Light for awhile. It was obscene how much money he threw around. They are about to get another huge infusion with T Boone dying and leaving a huge chunk to the school.

It seems like its still just OKST. Its not a program elite kids really want to go to. Even if you impress the kid, they still think backup school.

It's amazing how money changes that. Gundy just isn't a closer. You think guys 10 years ago were looking at Clemson as some destination school? Nope.

All we need is a mediocre coach at this point. Someone who can beat the less talented teams 9 times out of 10. If we can get a coach like that who can have us win the coastal at least 4 out of the next 5 years, and actually recruit like a division champ, is all we need. Let him get us over that 50% BCR ratio with a few 5 stars, make the job appealing, then go and grab an elite coach that will get us over the Clemson hump.

Gimme:

AD - Pete Garcia/Highsmith/Winston Moss
HC - Cristobal
OC - Briles
DC - Leavitt

Never in a million years do I think UM would, but this would be my choice

Urban would never come here even if we had the money.
I know. OP question is who would I like to be HC. My answer reflects who I would like now based on the sorry *** situation we are in. Honestly would never want this guy, but our situation is bleak. I don't see many others with his big balls. We need a Coach not a corch. Woody Hayes and Bear Bryant are unavailable. It's gonna take a man's man to fix out ****. We've operated on a pussified level for so long. New guy brings us brass knuckle looking ****. NO! Get us a **** that has balls enough to win. We're running a little boy program right now. I hear all this bag dropping ****, and I get that to a degree it does exist. That's not why these teams are consistently successful. They have coaches that really coach and know wtf they're talking about. Their coordinators are top notch. It's gonna take getting some men down here. Fvck the Miami connections. That ****s played out. Will any of what I'm looking for happen, Urban or the rest of it? Of course not. Woody Hayes, Bear Bryant, etc wouldn't come here either if they were still around. RIP.

At this point from a HC perspective Norvell is the most realistic financially and best option given his seasoning and performance as an up and comer like Memphis. Also love Matt Campbell who is a couple plays from being 5-0 this year at Iowa State.

If we go the assistant route I would like to:

1. Fire Enos and replace with Sean Gleeson at Oklahoma State (formerly Princeton), Brandon Streeter (Clemson's QB coach last 5 years who also has been OC at Richmond), or someone like Yost. Guys who have been successful running or co-running exciting top offenses before with experience against power 5 defenses.

2. Fire Butch Barry and go hard after Alex Mirabal at Oregon to come home.

Am fine with remaining offensive staff. Yes Stubblefield has quietly improved our wide receivers.

For defense:

3. Fire Baker and go after: David Reaves at UAB (Broyles semi-finalist last year and doing great this year) or Phil Parker at Iowa. Seasoned DC with consistency of success.

4. Fire Stroud and replace with Charlie Partridge at Pitt (and make associated HC). They're second in the nation in sacks and he recruits South Florida very well.

5. Fire Patke and replace with Jovan Dewitt at Army, a good special teams and lb coach.

6. Fire Banda and hire: Fran Brown at Temple as assistant dc/db coach.

7. Remove Rumph and let Van Dyke be the assistant DB coach/recruiter who can learn under Brown for a couple years as the main guy and be a recruiter.
This is probably one of the best and realistic answers given on this board. Kudos to the research.

Unless Miami displays the financial commitment why would a successful coach already making $4-5M leave his job for an office in Coral Gables?

Gundy? All he has to do is win 9 games and occasionally beat OU or Texas. Win every other bowl game. Same with probably anyone else you can name. Miami needs a young, talented, ambitions mercenary.

If Miami called and inquired I tell them I want $6M and another $7M for staff. And a larger infrastructure budget than what Miami is spending now.

we cant afford gundys buyout in all honesty. paying 4 for manny isnt the same as paying 16.2 for MGs. also, im not even a big fan of his bc wed be just as frustrated w the annoying losses with him here.

look at this way -- it took UF to pay mullen 6.6 and he was their third choice. most we've spent on a yearly basis is 4. we told manny he was getting a payout bc of his buyout with temple so hes making 3.1. if you want a top flight or even above average coach, theyre making 4-6 where theyre at and even more. you need at least 6+ to get him. FSU is paying taggart 5 annually (more than what we even pay richt). matt campbell wont leave ISU either. we just have to hope we fall into the next great assistant (Riley, Day) thats ready to take the leap.

Only our fan base and alumni fail to understand the real issue.
