Who would you hire for HC?

I'm tired of hearing about these money issues. We are a private University, which means our money isnt subject to scrutiny by the state. We just need to be creative and think outside the box.

The school should set up a trust tied strictly to the football program. This way when boosters or alumni wanna donate to the football program, the money goes to the football program and not the schools athletic department. Place the athletic director, some members of the board of trustees, and some prominent football alumni on the board of directors of the trust. Raise the money through the trust to pay for some quality, experienced coaches. Use to pay buyouts if you must, like for Matt Campbell.

Donors can designate their money to whatever they want. It literally took us four years to raise money for an IPF. The fact is Miami does not get the donations that larger state schools get and that is unlikely to change without the emergence of a super donor.

Mike Norvell
Josh Heupel
Dino Babers
I think Babers is clearly the best of the bunch there. Norvell and Heupel are intriguing, but we’d be taking a risk that they would pan out at a Power 5 program. Babers has proven he can do more with less, and our offense would be dope to watch.

We can't afford an elite HC. If we hire a HC with experience then we are hiring a guy that has proven he can't win big.

i dont want someone learning to be a HC on the job. Bring me herm edwards, gary patterson, dana holgerson etc better than having a coach that cant get the playcall in before 5 seconds

Have you watched those guys coach? My wife is a TCU alum and I watch most of their games. Gary Petterson's defense has been **** for four years now. He had his chance when Strong was at Texas and didn't take advantage of it.

At this point from a HC perspective Norvell is the most realistic financially and best option given his seasoning and performance as an up and comer like Memphis. Also love Matt Campbell who is a couple plays from being 5-0 this year at Iowa State.

If we go the assistant route I would like to:

1. Fire Enos and replace with Sean Gleeson at Oklahoma State (formerly Princeton), Brandon Streeter (Clemson's QB coach last 5 years who also has been OC at Richmond), or someone like Yost. Guys who have been successful running or co-running exciting top offenses before with experience against power 5 defenses.

2. Fire Butch Barry and go hard after Alex Mirabal at Oregon to come home.

Am fine with remaining offensive staff. Yes Stubblefield has quietly improved our wide receivers.

For defense:

3. Fire Baker and go after: David Reaves at UAB (Broyles semi-finalist last year and doing great this year) or Phil Parker at Iowa. Seasoned DC with consistency of success.

4. Fire Stroud and replace with Charlie Partridge at Pitt (and make associated HC). They're second in the nation in sacks and he recruits South Florida very well.

5. Fire Patke and replace with Jovan Dewitt at Army, a good special teams and lb coach.

6. Fire Banda and hire: Fran Brown at Temple as assistant dc/db coach.

7. Remove Rumph and let Van Dyke be the assistant DB coach/recruiter who can learn under Brown for a couple years as the main guy and be a recruiter.
Probably the best and most realistic post I’ve seen. All these next coach threads are useless. Miami is not firing Manny.

Passing on Mullen twice was ******* ridiculous.
"He was too ****y in his interview" which I think is great because he actually knows wtf he's doing. Manny has fake confidence but apparently that wasn't an issue since he didn't have to interview.

I love Herm as an option. He’s been there done that. He doesn’t seem to let ego get in the way of his work. He knows it takes assistants to be great and he’s a real CEO, program leader type. All of the salesman type guys we’ve brought in can’t convince kids to stay home, so why not try a guy who can talk some sense into the parents? If you don’t believe what Herm tells you, then you won’t listen to anyone

gary patterson better than manny, golden, shannon and coker im talking abt realistic options that could work here

F it. Let's play this game. Assume Manny's buyout is $8m. They paid Temple $4m to get him. So from that I'm guessing their wouldn't be top money. Say $3m a year tops.

Norvell makes $2.6m at Memphis. Leach is at $3.75m. Honestly doubt we'd have the cash for Leach even if they had interest.

Maybe too cynical on my part, but I think the best we could do is someone like Jason Candle. Unless you either want to get weird and look at a triple guy like Monken or gamble on a coordinator without HC experience.

Seriously, does it even matter? What point does it make to hire another HC if they are going to hire crap OC and DC's? I'm warning you guys right now that if Manny Diaz is fired we will end up settling from a crap list..

Here's the short crap list that we will end up with.

Lane Kiffin
Dino Barbers
Mario Cristobal
Greg Schiano
Rex Ryan

What about Jeff Tedford from Fresno state? He’s a offensive guy. Not sure what kind of recruiter he is or if he’d leave the west coast. Also I think you could get him at a reasonable price.
Just seems the guy has had success wherever he’s been.

Freeze me up, but will never happen. Haven't really seen anything from Stoops that sugguests he'd be capable of playoff caliber offense anywhere. Miles was recenty fired, pass. Cristobal, already failed at HC, pass.

Brown and Norvell have put success on paper so far, offensive minded, modern. Would be at the top of the realistic list.

Not even thinking about hiring an assistant at this point.

No on Fickell, that Cinci offense is hard to watch.

Schiano is about as in the box as you can get.
Remember the big names I mentioned are only on this list because those are the only big names I think would take the job. Not that I necessarily want any of them. Keep seeing Matt Campbell. No way he comes here. Agree on all other points. Especially Freeze.
