Who would you hire for HC?

Even if Urban Meyer didn’t want to coach I’d pay him $1mm just to assemble the next coaching staff at Miami

UM doesn't seem to have the willingness to spend the money it takes to get it right. However, they don't seem to mind spending on the cheap to fail over and over. I have no faith that UM will ever hire the right guy - or even look for the right guy.

A very ASTUTE Cane opinion of the century!

If you're familiar with the the way Memphis approaches recruiting & their lack of resources you would get why they can't field a great Defense.

They're a G5 school that doesn't spend a dime on recruiting & doesn't have the regional base to land a bunch of high rated recruits, the majority of their players are Juco's & Grad Transfers, how on Earth could they assemble a good Defense given those limitations?

Their defense has actually been respectable this season.

AD: Tom Jurich
HC: Urban Meyer

1-9) Money
10) He's reached his ceiling at OSU.

Everyone has a price. Everything is negotiable.

Gundy makes $5M/yr at Oklahoma State. No idea what his buyout is, but it’s safe to say Miami would be unlikely to pay it.

He’s a solid coach, though.

Sonny Dykes at SMU...and his DC too, Kevin KANE.

Can't make this **** up.

I said Venables last off season. When they were talking about him on one of the telecasts they discussed how he said he wanted to be a HC but wasn’t in a hurry because he wanted the right situation to win early. Apparently he admits he’s too competitive to endure “rebuilding” I thought that screamed Miami. Give me a guy that absolutely despised losing. He’s got the talent to dominate defensively here. Once again, it’s not rocket science get you a good OC who’s not stubborn and uses what he has to win.

Two different people. Fuente was the better coach last night. Manny isn't cutting it.

It's perfectly reasonable to compare Fuente to Norvell based on a cursory look of the same program they both head coached.

That said everywhere Norvell has been he has been great. As an OC at Arizona State they were top 20 in scoring offense 3/4 years. He was great as an assistant under Todd Graham at Tulsa as well.
His specialty, offense, has been at the top of the country numbers wise at Memphis, too.

Then you factor in since he's been at Memphis their worst win total (twice) has been 8 wins and he's in year 4 with a 5-0 record. He's CONSISTENTLY maintained a strong program at Memphis after Fuente left and has a legitimate shot to get to 10 wins again this year. Plus he's only like 37 and showing he can maintain a strong program in year 4 which in some ways is harder to do than be a flash in the pan coach who gets a team to ten wins before returning to mediocrity.
