What's your opinion on Donna Shalala?

My kid goes to the U, from California. The fact that there is a "buzz" about the U that reaches the west coast and is focused on the rising stature of the school is certainly part of her role as President of the school. If you dont think attracting big political events/debates/speakers is tied in to her connections you guys are crazy.

In addition, I have met her on campus and heard her speak. She is smart and an impressive force on campus.

Corben's 30 for 30 has items that would give any university President heartburn and i know she is no fan of Corben. If she continues to strike a balance and support guys like Al Golden (she is known to help in recruiting isn't she?) as ratings on US News type lists continue to hold then I will support my next son attending the U as well.

Seriously. You've got student-athletes admitting to getting into gunfights in nightclubs, student-athletes admitting to stealing car stereos and other things to make a buck, re-hashing things like the Pell grant scandal, the numerous on-field fights that we took part in, Uncle Luke basically admitting to paying players, etc.

It's silly to think that Shalala--or any other university prez--would have ever been supportive of a film in which those things are revealed (and celebrated) for the public to see.

We didn't lose a stadium that we owned. We had a stadium that we were using pulled out from under us by the corrupt third world government known as Miami-Dade city hall. The school had little to no power or say over the fate of the stadium.

Are you seriously citing as evidence of kids who have kicked off the team? Really? Do you know how many people in the community lobbied for WW? Plus his GPA and academics were better than most believe it or not.

WTF does it matter if they were kicked off the team??? Shalala is only involved insofar as she allows them to be admitted. And she did. And yeah, WW had decent grades--we all know he also had a rap sheet that equalled his grades; if he's a regular joe trying to get into UM, he never makes it past the background check. But Shalala allowed him in as a second chance (well, actually umpteenth chance), which he ultimately blew.

You're so full of **** it's comical. Fact is Shalala has had little impact on the football team. Sadly, knuckle-draggers like you can't seem to wrap your head around the facts.

Paul Dee was responsible for giving Coker the contract extension that ****ed the football program. How is Donna now responsible for that? Randy was hired after Coker because of that same contract extension. Randy never lands the job if it weren't for having to pay Coker for another 3 years. As soon as Randy had proven he wasn't cut out for the job Donna went out and got Al Golden. She also had the basketball stadium built and brought in Laranaga who just so happened to win the ACC last season. Did you miss that? Last time I checked, I've never seen Shalala running players through drills or making recruiting visits.
I have heard recruits gushing about meeting her during recruiting visits. Both recruits and parents talk about meeting her in glowing terms.
As for hiring coaches. I'm pretty sure the AD does it.
Many of you seem to hate her for personal reasons, like The perception she doesn't value athletics. Just crazy.
We do have new facilities that cost millions don't we?
A lot of you 21st century fans don't remember that our facilities, during our decades of national dominance, would have been **** poor in comparison to most Texas high schools.
As for higher academic standards than others? The NCAA is upgrading very soon, we were just ahead of the curve.
It's not like our standards for athletes are Ivy League standards.
Basically, your minimum test scores and g.p.a. Still wouldn't allow you admittance to any university unless you played sports.
Shalala said that you can't be a moron and be admitted. Just be well below average but not the absolute bottom of the barrel.
