And I applauded Columbia for killing him. In a sport where a team scores a goal maybe one out of every three games, that joker scored against his own team. Should have executed him on the field.

I think that there was some fault among some of the players and coaches. I am not sure how much Donna is able to or has a responsibility to babysit the football staff. But if we grant that the buck stops with her, by "fault," I meant fault in the sense of monumentally disproportionate overreaction on the part of the NCAA.

I think you missed the main thrust of my comment that you cited. My point was that although UM may have been at fault in some ways, that citing them for lack of institutional control is a huge overreaction.

First of all our facilities are now among the best in college and clearly you know nothing about sports.

If the NCAA's COI cites us for lack of institutional control, loss of opportunity for another bowl game or significant scholarship losses Shalala must and I'm sure will fight the NCAA first by appeal and then court. It could happen as they are not happy with her earlier letters.

We're you guys *****ing about her hire of Coker when we won in 2001?
How about when we got robbed in 2002?
Coker's problem happened whe he started recruiting by recruitings stars instead of heart, and then eventually the inmates started running the asylum.
I'm not even sure Shalala hires the coaches. I thought the AD did that.
Did she interview Shannon or was that the AD?

As for her emphasis on academics, she's the University President, not the football president.
If academics are not her first focus she should be fired.
Last I heard, our small class size, intimate teacher/student interaction, and high academic reputation are all some of Golden's top selling points.
There aren't many top academic schools with dominant football programs.
Stanford just recently. Michigan. Maybe Ohio State but they are all big public schools funded by their state.
Can anybody think of a small private school in the modern era that has won 5 NC's?

The AD hired Coker, she had no reason to go against his hire. Should she have been watching game film of Coker's coaching tenure to make a decision? Plus, the players pushed, and pushed hard, to get Coker that job. The fact that people bring up Shalala being "liberal" just shows that the dislike is far more about her politics than the job she's done at UM. So we know that the NCAA enforcement is trying to nail us with Loss of Institutional Control. Whether we're actually charged with that will depend on what the COI determines here in the next few days (weeks, months, whatever.)

So here's my question.

If we are found guilty of a loss of institutional control, will that color your opinion of Donna Shalala? In my mind, it's pretty simple: Who is supposed to be "controlling the institution" if not our fearless leader?

I think that, combined with the fact that she stood by idly as the Orange Bowl was torn down brick by brick (and has since done nothing to get us out of Sun Life), and our facilities are still behind the rest of college football....

donna also was caught up in a loan scandal as well..not sure what came of it, she was accused of taking very low sub prime loans from a pal Angelo Mozilo at country wide...

She is no angel..but has been good for Miami...as for her owning the NCAA we all know that is not true...3 years of this mess, while other schools get slapped and move on with little to no cooperation....

As for the poster who keeps asking WHO WENT THERE OR GRADUATED...what does that have anything to do with this post...
Some of the worst fans are UM grads...mostly went for business ( cant blame them) and know nothing of sports and do not support any athletic programs at all..just sit in the 140 section its full of Alumni that sell there HI end game tickets, will not be caught dead at a noon game or ever stand for any reason...
