Welcome to the Canes, Derrick Smith

He will be a drop down SS. I wonder how many of you actually understand football.

Outside of DL the defensive recruiting is odd. Three strong safeties and two OLB's with very limited film, if at all, about Jennings or Wilder in coverage. Steed comitted to the last staff and is an all-around LB. I get the identity Manny Diaz is going for, but there isn't a lot of versatility there.

I think Diaz likes Weakside Linebacker/Strong Safety Hybrid players (think Jabril Peppers) that can be asked to blitz, run support, or drop into coverage. This allows him to leave these guy in coverage or bring pressure without any predictability. Thus there are three SS/Will and two Sams

Thanks for the explanation. But the "coverage" part seems like it's missing.

Sorry, meant that the guys classified as OLBs are only for the Mike or Strongside Linebacker position. These guys will not be asked to cover, and are almost all run support and blitzing. The Weakside and Strong Safety positions will be more interchangeable and these are the guys classified as SS

So what is McCloud and Pinkney's roles? And how are Jennings and Wilder similar to them as prospects? Because they seem
Like just thumpers.

This **** is funny to me. People up here crying for collier to get a offer but complaining because they took smith. They are about in the same boat if you ask me.

You are a ******.

I'm sorry, I didn't know you were expecting our whole class to be 5 stars and elite talent after 1 year after underperforming for the last 10+. Please submit an application to be a recruiting analysts for Miami because you seem to be on top of your game and know everything!

Golden had a better class at the time of his firing than this. Just the truth.

Snatch those upvotes brah. But look at the 247 composite of the 2016 class and compare. Or just cover your ears and yell "Go Canes" ten times in the dark and see if you forget I said hat.

Much like all of Golden's classes it would've fallen apart if he was retained. Golden had guys committed in October. So what? He always did.

McFarland, Slaton, Herbert, Dean, Harley all guys who are either wrapped up or we're in a good position for. That's an influx of talent that's highly regarded. They need to be signed but that's multiple All-Americans leaning Miami's way

That's the convinient excuse. It "would have" fallen apart. Like this one?

They have literally the same ranking and offer list, with Smith actually having the better group of the latter. The bias is obviously that one is from South Florida and the other is from Jacksonville. We didn't exactly steal this kid from Idaho

He is actually wrong. In this scheme the sam is asked to cover the slot and blitz off the edge. The mike and will spots are basically the same thing in this scheme. They all will be asked to cover more but diaz cut it down this year because they were young.

The young man is a violent hitter who also wraps up; he's got good speed and range, and he comes from a powerhouse program. I like the pick up.

Ahmon Richards would be rolling Tide if Golden was still around.

We would have no chance at McFarland, Harley, Jennings, DJ Johnson, Bandy, Dee Jay Dallas and others if Golden was still around.

Harley is just as good if not better prospect than Phil Dorsett in HS.

Army All American.

World class 100 meter speed.

Dominated state championship game with 3 TD's and 150 yards.

Same size as Dorsett and DJ Matthews.

If Harley isn't a solid 4 star prospect who is?

I love listening to this stuff.

He's not rated a 3-star on the composite. You can call him one because he's a Cane target, but he's not.

Kids 6-2 bout 200 with range and can lay the wood. But not a 4 or 5 star so he is meh to some folks here smh

or an 3* OL all the way from IOWA who Iowa didn't offer

Zach Dykstra is NOT UM caliber

Yawn. I've read this **** before.

Never heard of the kid. That's kind of the point.

Hey we miss on Jerry Jeudy and all the star kids but at least we got this plan D guy, whoever he is.

Richt doing WORK

I know we're paying Richt 4 million a year to do something, right?

I'd like to see around half of our class every cycle be 4/5 star kids. That's how championship teams recruit.

Tell me something...if we paid Golden 2 million per year and we're paying Richt twice as much, what kind of upgrade should we expect on the recruiting?

You tell me what's a fair expectation.

Wow, it's super awesome that you started an account just in time to bring us this thoughtful insight! I totally agree! Richt should be 2x as good as al in all ways! Now that I think about it, lets just give Richt a raise to $11 million and we'll win all the championships.

You mean new people are signing up for a fan forum two weeks before a bowl game? Weird, man. So weird.

Meanwhile back in the real world....it's not unreasonable for fans to expect better recruiting from Richt when we were told this was an "SEC staff" who had all the relations down here, etc etc.

Recruiting has been underwhelming. Don't hate on me for calling a spade a spade.

Oh, you're not a troll? My bad. It's just that when you rolled in and your first 10 posts were about how recruiting isn't as good as everyone would like I naturally assumed you were a troll.

There is no evidence of any of this. It's all wishful thinking. Let the truth set you free. Just look at the composite rankings and compare the averages over the years.

Where do Wilder and Jennings fit in there.

Sure. If Jacksonville is in south Florida

I've been a member for what, 4-5 years. Never posted until 1.5 years ago and sparingly. Keep having unrealistic choices expectations. This changes by winning on the field, especially against FSU.

Yes you're right, mixed up the two names in this scheme. Anyways the point still stands, he wants a primarily run stuffer/blitzer LB and a SS hybrid at the other position. McCloud is the SS hybrid in this scheme

The kid is a dime a dozen. Show me the rosters of Utah, Syracuse, Arizona State, etc, and I'll show you a dozen kids just like this one.

Funny how jus cause guys don't know about a kid he's automatically a Golden special or not a player. This kids a baller he recently qualified is what the hold up was I mean days ago is his offer committable Peter Ariz??

He's film is better than Collier's and he WILL challenge Amari Carter for and other Safeties for time Day 1

He was over shadowed in secondary that included 5 Star Shaun Wade and 4/5 Star Johnson CB

904, you seem to have watched him live - is he a safety at the next level? Or is he a box safety/rover type with an extra 10-15 pounds?

FWIW, we've been recruiting him since Jan/Feb with Harley and Banda leading the way.

So Gibson, Smith and Carter are for the McCloud role? Who plays traditional Safety then?

I'm a big canes fan and an alum. There's no doubt, though, that I've been frustrated with the football team's lack of progress. The program is on life support in critical condition and as a Miami guy, that's tough to watch.

We'll be talking about Jerry Jeudy, for example, for years. That one cuts deep. We can't afford this right now.
