We shouldn't self-impose another post-season ban

but allowing our admin to ban us from the bowl game just for recruiting means you are stabbing your seniors in the back.

By imposing bowl bans you are basically saying,

"Sorry Davon Johnson, your 5 years worth of work is less important to us than Matthew Thomas playing for the next 3 or 4."

So you want to mortgage our future so James and DJ can play in the Emerald Bowl? Nice Logic

a coach should be loyal to his current players not ones who may or may not be hurricanes.

The coach should be loyal to the university period!

not true. that' the president's job. Jimmy Johnson wasn't always cooperating with the university admins. a football coach should look for what's best for his TEAM.

Those were different times.

What best for the team is putting this behind us as quickly as possible. Next year we will be better. Say we get to 10-11 wins. What's Golden going to say, "sorry guys, had to get MJ and DJ to the Emerald Bowl last year."

Why do it at the beginning and hurt recruiting from the start? At least now the recruits can say wow they got heart and fight if they take the ban I can play without sanctions. Rather than doing at the beginning and potential not getting the best out of your players. Honestly it would be different if we were 10-2 at the end of the year then I would say lets do it. But since we all know we don't belong just take the ban.

But if I'm using your premise, self-imposing at the beginning helps with recruits.

You can tell them, "Hey were sitting out another bowl game this year so you step on campus with a clean slate. All of the sanctions will be behind us by Fall 2013."

what if the underclassmen turn on you?

all season long Deon Bush has been told his team will have a shot at the ACC title. now you take that away.

do you think Deon, Tracy, Duke, or anyone else can fully trust Golden if we ban ourselves?

The only way I self-impose is if we get wind of the NCAA's plan to give us a ban. I'm not gonna volunteer to spend two years in jail if I may only get probation. If they (NCAA) want to hammer us, then I'm not gonna help them. They'll have to get their lazy @$$e$ up, pick up that heavy hammer, and do it themselves. ESPECIALLY since, throughout this entire investigation, we have been nothing but compliant, helpful, and already proactive. And if we still get hammered, then you sell the "us against the world" message to recruits and tell them that we are going to make the NCAA and all of college football pay for their over-the-top treatment. I believe this is the mentality that made the UM teams of the past play with such hatred, disdain, and passion.

I have never seen so much "hopes and wishes" from cane fans this year. WE ARE NOT GOOD plain and simple. Get some more recruits and hit the **** weight room.

Then they are the dumbest people ever to think like a fan and expect we skate with a 1 year bowl ban that has been served for 10 years of LOI.

LOL, you think Golden will be the one making this decision?

go ahead and tell the current players that.

No need they should know at 5-4 with ZERO quality wins that we are not there yet and if we can self impose a ban again to for the most part end this ****storm then we should do it.

I see your point but totally disagree from the recruits that I have talked to over the last 10 years and seen gone elsewhere when a university is in trouble. There is no need to be ****y and go play a game we don't belong in. ****iness gets a university nowhere! Ask USC! Be proactive and acknowledge that we have make mistakes and we are making an effort to move forward.

Then why not self-impose at the beginning of the season?

Playing in the bowl game isn't a sign of ****iness. SC's problems were different. Their main problem was they had a one-man compliance department for a certain period of time. Their monitoring protocols were a joke.

You don't self impose early because its a motivation thing.something to play for is important, especially for a young squad.

Plus I'm sure they are trying to gther as much info as possible from the NCAA

USC went 10-2 last year and they knew weren't going bowling. You want to know about motivation? You think that the BC game last year was lost just because we suck? We lost because the administration cut the heart out of the team. Thats what a bowl ban does. If you do it beforehand, the entire program can come to terms with and adjust.

By the way, for those who think we can show up for the title game and then take a bowl ban, thats out the window. ACC has a policy. Miami can't play in the title game if they're not going to a bowl.

What future are we mortgaging?

Missing a bowl game next year isn't going to hurt THAT bad. I don't think we're contenders next year. Best case scenario we're in the ACCCG next year, but only with a prettier record. IMO 2014 is the first year we'll be legit contenders with studs all over the roster.

And when you factor in recruiting, missing next year's bowl game doesn't hurt 2014 recruiting. Ohio State is working on a top 10 class right now.

However, self-imposing THIS year could disrupt 2013 recruiting. The reason being is the uncertainty. If we self-impose again, recruits could freak out. I'm trying to put myself in the shoes of a recruit. If UM is recruiting and telling me the worst is behind us and all of a sudden they're sitting out another bowl game, I'd start looking around to be on the safe side.

If we were going to self-impose, we should've done it before the season.

We are going to be significantly better next year. And I disagree that missing a bowl would hurt recruiting in 2013. I think it would be far worse if we play this year and then have to sit out in 2013.

I can't imagine we've been telling recruits that we're probably going to be missing a bowl game next year.

You know recruits have been asking. What have we been telling them? Take a look at some of Golden's quotes after last year's bowl ban:

“The current players on our team have been reinstated and have paid their debt,” Golden said. “Now, as a team and a program, we feel like we’re paying our debt and we feel like we have a chance to put these issues behind us. That’s why I feel it’s the right decision at this time.”

“Clearly this is something we have to do now to move the program forward in the future,” he said.

“Based on what I know, which is very little, I’m very positive about the direction we’re going, and clearly, I think the expeditious reinstatement of our current players back in August or September should be a clear indication that we are headed in a positive direction,” he said. “When the story initially broke, it was certainly sensationalized. We understand that there was wrongdoing, but I think as expeditiously as four players were reinstated and the others served penalties … I think that was a silver lining and perhaps this is one as well.”

My guess is THIS is the party line being sold to recruits.

Self-imposing AGAIN blows all of that up.

i'm not doubting you on the policy, but i'd like to see it or see confirmation of it. only because bowl invitations aren't handed out until after championship games and do not have to be accepted.

So Miami lost to BC because we didn't have anything to play for?

LOL at comparing USC and Miami. USC is far more talented then almost every team they play
