WE CAN COMPETE FOR NC NEXT SEASON

The DT situation is a mess. Corner's are going to be slightly above a mess, and we are around 110 ranked overall Defense to a National Championship contender in the period of this summer. May be a pretty tall order.

This is definitely a possibility in NCAA13. Recruit a couple good classes & hello dynasty. F*** quality depth....it's overrated.

a few good points...is uf really losing that much? i think game managment as a whole is key, which qb impacts most...the ksu game got out of hand early because mis q and no d...nd and fsu both played better in second half than our qb...if morris can move the chains, watch out....the d will live on big play and bend dont break, unc was a great game this year, but morris should have put it away early like v tech game, ugly so ugly

We have a chance to be a very, very good team next year. We won't win the NC until our DL talent is significantly upgraded, and our defensive talent in general is upgraded. Our pass rush just is not very good right now, from the linebackers to the DT's.

Unless you truly believe UM has a championship caliber defense and quarterback, the answer is no. Personally, I feel there are just too many questions defensively to even contemplate competing for an mnc. UM hasn't shown its capable of slowing down a potential championship caliber offense. Seeing is believing. Until the defense is capable of setting the tone for team UM, mnc talk will have to be placed on hold for another year.

I don't really understand why people are having trouble believing we can compete for a title next year. We play in a crappy conference with only one decent ooc game. We can compete for one but by no means will we be one of the top teams next year, we just have a favorable conference and ooc schedule

I'll ask you and the op the same question i asked earlier, what were your predictions for the 2012 season?

That hardly has any relevance but I figured 6-8 wins. I'm not saying that this is a sure thing but we definitely have a favorable schedule and returning nearly the whole team

Well, i'm surprised you only predicted 6 wins this season, if you're truly on board w/ the concept of us sniffing a title next year. in any event, there is no evidence to support the conclusion that we will compete for the title in 2013. Remember, we got completely manhandled - absolutely abused on both lines of scrimmage - by the two top ten teams we played this season. You don't have horrific losses like those, then compete for a national title the following year.

we need a power back and a TE

We have no issues on offense except having a #1 wr and Coley could fill that. The list only had 2 off and 2 def when it should be 4 def. We are close to dead last in D, so we need to get that to Top 25 defense before we can have a shot at a ship.

The point I'm making is we don't have that schedule next year. UF will be the only legitimately good team on our schedule this upcoming season. I don't think we'll be a top 5-10 next year, but that our schedule makes it possible, certainly more so than previous years

But we barely - by the skin of our teeth - beat a bunch of middling teams this year - ga tech, duke, nc state, bc. And we got abused by the two legit teams we played. We had every break under the sun against our main rival, and still lost by a wide margin to fsu. We will be improved, but we are not competing for a natl title.

And I don't know what definition you are using, but in my view competing for a natl title implies being a top 10 team.

Have to agree with this. I think we will be MUCH improved. Even could win 10 games. I just don't think going undefeated is within the realm of possibilities with this team(defense). Unless we land Hooks or a juco dt we are still going to be weak in the middle front. Porter coming back could help, but man the dt position is in shambles.

I still dnt know wut they want this defense to eventually look like. We have quite a few rushers. McCord, Hoilett, Terry, Bond, Mathew Thomas? Are they rush lbs? Are they de's? And im not sure why people are saying wel be competing the following year. Who did we get on the dl this year or last year that were saying theyl be ready to compete in 2013,2014? Or are we hoping nxt year we get top juco d linemen? Golden needs to make d line a top priority, and recruit the top tier talent like a mad man for us to compete.
