"We aint got no money "

You either cant do something or you dont want to do something. Miami overall athletics revenue is more than Clemson's and football was merely 4 mill behind in 2019. This is Clemson who been to every playoffs since 2015 and won 2 national titles. We must force change....some way. This is not a case of we can't. We have money. That's why the gameday rants got under their skin down there. And like a good tool Diaz came out to bat defending points no one made.

Once again, missing the entire point.

Clemson is allowed to spend money to buy recruits, Miami isnt.

Anyway, revenue isn't the issue its always booster donations.

I cited the booster donations numbers.

IPTAY (Clemson) just brought in over $70 million.

Hurricane Club brought in $11 million in a year of 10 pre-COVID months (and 2 COVID months).

If Miami lost $60 million due to 2 months of COVID, that would be one thing.

But it looks like Hurricane Club averages about $1 million in booster donations per month, while Clemson averages $6 million per month.

EVERY MONTH, the Clemson booster club can pay a coaching buyout that Miami's booster club can't.

Both points can be true, though it is usually the boosters who buy recruits. And IPTAY makes at least $50 million per year more than Hurricane Club makes.

That's a lot of recruits.

I thought it would be more than that. Up here, everyone and their momma has an IPTAY sticker on their car.

I completely agree.

I just think that UM has, for far too long, been stuck in old-style thinking. Trustees who can't look at the world around them and acknowledge that things have changed. And that Miami has to change too.

biggest thing here. we don't have the fundraising base that other schools have, but if you invest more money into the program yourself, you then start to increase the donations everywhere else that can be used subsidize the costs. we can't hire and spend money like its 1985. we spend like a g5 team and hire g5 level coaches

Do u know how much Miami receives in donations as compared to those schools?
For athletics, it's SIGNIFICANTLY less. Keep in mind, donations are earmarked for specific purposes. You can't take money earmarked for athletics and place it toward academic initiatives and vice versa. Hurricane Club money goes to the athletic department, it's just significantly less than what the IPTAY produces.

When the Millers commit to donate 500 million to the med school, it goes to that entity and that entity alone. That's what our fans don't understand.

Yes, and Clemson was dropping Men's Track until they were sued. This is less about money and more about incompetency at Hecht. You dumped at least a $4 million buy out for Diaz and you pay him around $4 million per year. For a first time coach that is not too bad and based on his performance he owes Miami money. His 2 weeks at Temple don't count....lol.

It’s a phenomenal out-of-the-box way to raise money. A creative streak our administration is sorely lacking
If you donate anything to the Hurricane Club, you get the same sticker. Difference is that Miami fans don't donate. Keep in mind, Miami was one of the last major schools to require a donation in order to reserve season tickets. Fans threw a hissy fit about it.

Spot on. This is what you get from a 23K enrollment vice 11K and a South Carolina fan base with the only game in town is Clemson or South Carolina. The latter has not been competitive in the SEC maybe ever. And Miami is competing with pro sports.

Miami did not compel Hurricane Club membership this year as part of season ticket renewal. This is just stupid. You cannot get a season ticket for Florida without a contribution that essentially matches the cost of the tickets.

UM raised $1.6B between 2012 and 2015. That’s BILLION. Money isn’t an issue, the desire to spend on football is. Worrying about a $5M more for a coaching staff is silly. If they wanted to be competitive they would be.

Earmarks. Earmarks. EARMARKS.

Nevermind the fact that Miami, nor any other school worth a **** will NEVER take money from the endowment to subsidize athletics. Go look at which departments got the bulk of the funds from the Momentum campaigns. The med school got a ton. Guess what? You aren't taking money from them to fund football. Not happening, you would get sued in a heartbeat by the donors that donated those funds for that purpose.

Actually, we haven't been requiring a HC membership contribution as a part of the ticket price for several years.

So imagine that...Beta Blake has effectively LOST the prime source of "small donations", and devotes all of his working time to large donors.

Well, I would also say that the BIGGER problem is that both Foote and Shalala pretty much prohibited major Athletic Department fund-raising while any Momentum-type campaign was going on.

Miami was one of the last schools to require it, they started doing it under Golden for select seats, then tried to go full on under Richt. Fans threw a hissy fit, so Blake backed off.
